Ryan to deliver harsh foreign policy speech in Washington

Washington (CNN) - Republican Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan will unleash a fierce attack on President Obama's foreign policy Friday in a speech to the Values Voter Summit in Washington, according to excerpts of his speech provided by Mitt Romney's campaign.

Ryan will also highlight his Catholic faith in his speech to the gathering of social conservatives, which is sponsored by the Family Research Council.

Read the excerpts below:

Look across that region today, and what do we see? The slaughter of brave dissidents in Syria. Mobs storming American embassies and consulates. Iran four years closer to gaining a nuclear weapon. Israel, our best ally in the region, treated with indifference bordering on contempt by the Obama administration. Amid all these threats and dangers, what we do not see is steady, consistent American leadership. In the days ahead, and in the years ahead, American foreign policy needs moral clarity and firmness of purpose. Only by the confident exercise of American influence are evil and violence overcome. That is how we keep problems abroad from becoming crises. That is what keeps the peace. And that is what we will have in a Romney-Ryan administration …

The President is given to lectures on all that we owe to government, as if anyone who opposes his reckless expansion of federal power is guilty of ingratitude and rank individualism. He treats private enterprise as little more than a revenue source for government. He views government as the redistributor and allocator of opportunity. Well, the results are in for that, too. Here we are, after four years of economic stewardship under these self-proclaimed advocates of the poor, and what do they have to show for it? More people in poverty, and less upward mobility wherever you look. After four years of dividing people up with the bogus rhetoric of class warfare, just about every segment of society is worse off ...

In the President's telling, government is a big, benevolent presence – gently guiding our steps at every turn. In reality, when government enters the picture, private institutions are so often brushed aside with suspicion or even contempt. This is what happened to the Catholic Church and Catholic Charities this past January, when the new mandates of Obamacare started coming. Never mind your own conscience, they were basically told, from now on you're going to do things the government's way. Ladies and gentlemen, you would be hard pressed to find another group in America that does more to serve the health of women and their babies than the Catholic Church and Catholic Charities. And now, suddenly, we have Obamacare bureaucrats presuming to dictate how they will do it. As Governor Romney has said, this mandate is not a threat and insult to one religious group – it is a threat and insult to every religious group. He and I are honored to stand with you – people of faith and concerned citizens – in defense of religious liberty.

  1. Seriously?

Another "we hate government–put us in charge of it" speech.

    Zero foreign policy experience.

    Trust us.

We promise to create 12 million jobs, replace Obamacare and the Dodd-Frank financial reforms, slash corporate tax rates, preserve the Bush income tax cuts and then cut an additional 20 percent on top of those, and we're going to expant the military and police the world and....... balance the budget.

    How?

    Trust us.

Ryan and Romney both buy into the philosophy that there is no real truth, and if there is it means nothing. The only real "truth" to them is what they can make people believe. They have smart people who know what words motivate people to do things or buy things, and they use those words without regard for any objective reality. And so they will say anything. And if you call them on it they will trench and backfil and double down without compunction. That may be a useful talent on Wall Street, but it is no way to lead a government of and for the people. Americans are seeing through this tatic, and this election is becomming more and more about trust

    Bill said:
"Now this 42 year old whelp is a foreign policy expert? Laughable at best"

Barrack Obama had less than ZERO experience in Foreign policy when he took over as President. The first thing he did was to go on the appology tour around the world to express his conviction that we would now be more respectfull of our adversaries. Hows that working out ?

Yes because Bush's foreign policy worked out so well for us. Try being a real leader and offer solutions instead of being a critic. You're just embarrassing yourself.

This Romney/Ryan team have a serious maturity problem. Everyday something new that they make arses out of themselves. They both behave like 6th graders, maybe younger. I cringe and am embarrassed for them both of what comes out of their mouths. Does no one on their team advise them to GROW UP and make sense when you talk.
Someone needs to count how many times a day these 2 use the word "Obama".
They are BOTH an embarrassment , disgrace, and jokes.

    @phillip Ryan
I expect vice President Ryan to knock this out off the ball park

    What park ?
Are wars , diplomacy and foreign policy a baseball game to you ? Out of the park , are you related to the Marathon Runner ?

It is a given that the Liberal Media/Democrat Propaganda Machine will completely ignore the content of Ryans speach but the American people are hearing it thanks to more fair and ballanced sources of news that are available.

We all have seen and read about Lyin Ryan, but what makes me wonder is how many lies has he gotten away with. Hopefully the fact checkers will be on alert when he does his speech. But then again, I don't think he really cares because we've been put on notice that they won't let facts get in the way of their campaign.

Here comes yet another blunder from the Romney campaign. Ryan and foreign policy simply don't mix.

  18. Ah...I See.

Pretty sure the founding fathers said something about seperation of church and state. And if that wasn't clear enough, a later amendment plainly states that the USA should not trumpet a particular religion. In fact, the whole basis of our country was to be a melting pot free of intolerance, prosecution, and projection. Enter the Christians...youngest main stream religion on the planet. Reminds me of a kick or punt returner who loses yards trying to look like a playmaker instead of just doing what works. Impetuous or inexperienced but nonsensical either way.

Fact: Obama has NEVER issued an apology to ANY government while in office.
Fact: Republicans/Romney/Ryan/Fox continue to promote a narrative that the president is "apologetic" in his foreign policy, desperately hoping that it will have traction – and "become" the truth – when it is blatently false.

Really pathetic desperate words from a lost-cause, billionaire-bankrolled, delusional campaign.

Ryan will be taking Obama to the wood shed on foreign policy huh........is this because he and Romney have such great insight and experience in this arena? Yeah.....if we just put Romney and Ryan in charge of foreign policy, all those pesky Arab nations will snap right into line........yeah, I believe that one!

Ryan and Romney are totally not prepared to deal with foreign affairs
    ------------–

Agreed. It's becoming more and more obvious as the week progresses that they are just bumbling along, not even cognizant of the damage they are doing overseas and Obama's ability to handle the situation calmly and maturely. Their indifference is quite breath taking.
