Obama to appear on Kansas ballot after 'birther' challenge dropped

(CNN) – Efforts to keep President Barack Obama's name off of the Kansas presidential ballot were halted Monday when a state board ended its probe over questions about the president's place of birth, the Kansas Secretary of State's office confirmed.

The all-Republican board made its decision after the person leading the objection, Manhattan, Kansas resident Joe Montgomery, dropped his challenge on Friday saying he had received threatening phone calls.

Last year, Obama released his long-form birth certificate from Hawaii to quell speculation that he was not a U.S. citizen and may be constitutionally ineligible to serve as president. He has previously released a certification of live birth during the 2008 campaign. Both documents show that he was born in a Hawaii hospital on August 4, 1961. Contemporaneously published newspaper announcements also noted the birth in the Aloha State.

Monday's meeting by the State Objections Board, however, did not go down without some drama. Orly Taitz, an outspoken figure in the so-called birther movement, appeared at the gathering and demanded to speak, according to local television station KTKA, a CNN affiliate. She chided board members for overlooking other questions about the president's citizenship.

Obama supporters forcefully responded at the meeting, and both parties were ordered to leave the building by a security officer. It's also worth noting that Kansas Secretary of State, Kris Kobach, is known for his tough stance against illegal immigration and has served as an "informal adviser" to Mitt Romney's campaign.

The Kansas ballot measure is one of several examples of the birther movement's still-persistent presence this election year. Officials in Iowa and Arizona, for example, called for presidential candidates to show proof of U.S. citizenship before they can appear on the ballot–a not-so-veiled nod to birther conspiracists.

While the Republican Party at large brushes off the movement as a distraction, and despite proof to the contrary, some continue to give voice to the issue, notably real estate mogul Donald Trump. Romney, meanwhile, drew criticism recently for making an apparent quip about the issue.

"Ann was born at Henry Ford hospital, I was born at Harper hospital. No one has ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place that we were born and raised," Romney said at a Michigan campaign event.

Obama's campaign quickly seized on the comment and faulted Romney for not "standing up to the most strident voices in his party."

The president, however, pokes fun at the issue himself. Campaigning in Florida recently, Obama ran into a six-year-old from Hawaii and jokingly asked to see his birth certificate.

The truth of the matter is that if it had not been publicly anounced through the mainstream media, it probably would have passed unanimously.

Every time I see mention of this very same question raised anywhere, it has either been brushed off by Federal Judges who are themselves of questionable Citizenship (The Judge in Georgia was originally from Iran and is hiding here) or mysteriously some non-credible excuse is givin that one lacks standing... My take on this is to follow the Constitution.

As A Citizen of the United States of America I do have as a registired voter"The Absolute RIGHT to be able to make an INFORMED DECISION" asto the suitability of a individual when I cast My Vote, And inclusive of that RIGHT is the ABSOLUTE DUTY to demand proof of NBC Status from ANY and ALL who wish the PRIVELAGE of recieving MY VOTE to ELECT them as POTUS.

So, who has Standing in this issue??? WE ALL AS AMERICAN CITIZENS not only have individually STANDING To Raise this Question But if you have ever in your lifetime sworn an oath to Protect and UPHOLD
The United States Constitution have such a DUTY.

Who is Answerable??? ANY AND ALL CANDIDATES:.

Peter Guild said: "Whatever will put Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan in office, I'm in-favor of."

That's a very honest and revealing statement. I think Peter has been very up front with us about the large majority of GOP voters. They, like their candidate, are willing to lie, cheat, bribe, kill, disenfranchise, suppress, and use any other tactic in order to get what they want. How very un-American the GOP is.

Glad that they say that the President can "laugh" about the Birthers, me not so much.
Shameful that one of the President's home states would stoop this low. His grandparents lived, worked, and raised him there for Gawd's sakes.
    Oh America...
Days like these I miss the comical relief that was the GOP Clown Car of Candidates.
    Obama 2012. Period.

While Obama has done a poor job as president in his first term, think about this: Our government isn't smart enough to pull off a scam like this. It would take a lot of effort to bring in someone not born here. make him president, and cover everything up. There are plenty of other reasons to get on Obama.
    --------------------------
Maybe, so. But there are plenty more reasons *not* to elect Mitt Romney. He has demonstrated an unusually weak skill set when it comes management. Look at his campaign. How a candidate conducts their campaign is an excellent measure of how they would conduct themselves in an elected office.

Romney's manage skills are limited to a portfolio, and are non-existent when it comes to real people and the real world.

How stupid can you be to believe that a man born to an American woman is NOT an Ameri can citizen? Are we seeing the products of hate radio and tv alive and well and living among us and influencing and making our laws? Think about it for just a few seconds. Makes my skin crawl.

Seriously, I don't care if Mitt Romney was born on July 4th atop the Statue of Liberty wrapped in an American flag and sucking on a red-white-and blue binky...President Obama is the better man if he was born on Mars. Get it together Kansans!

I can't believe this is still an issue. President Obama has released two copies of his birth certificate along with the birth announcement, yet people still believe this nonsense. On the other hand, we have Willard, whose own father said you need to release multiple years of taxes, yet he releases one. When he is called out for it, he cries that he is being picked on for being rich. Talk about a double standard.

President Obama has released more documents than any other POTUS in history but this wimp won't and thinks he is entitled to the White House.

Show us those taxes Willard, you tax evading crybaby liar!

    OBAMA 2012!

I have never questioned his place of birth because it is irrelevant. The fact that he attended school in Indonesia where only citizens are allowed to attend and no dual citizenship is recognized means he can't be a citizen of the US. If he was born in Hawaii, his father would have had to denounce his US citizenship to then obtain Indonesian citizenship to attend school there. He also applied for college tuition as a foreign student as well, but won't release those documents. To me, these are the relevant questions.

Why am I wasting time even responding to this? Non-issue, based on NO FACTS, investigated by BOTH parties, found to be untrue. I guess this proves redknecks cling to Guns, Bibles and the Birther lie to make them feel better about their support of Facists and multinational corporations above and before citizens.

TSB8C Apparently you missed the part in Indoneisan law that dual citizenship is allowed until a person turns 18. Since he only attended school there for the 3rd and 4th grade he wouldn't have been required to have only Indonesian citizenship as his dual citizenship would have still been recognized. At the age of 18 he would have had to make a decision to renounce his US citizenship to continue on. Must be difficult to read with all that rage and hate filling your eyes.

Both birth certificates were PROVEN FORGERIES...bad ones at that, by FBI forensic document experts among others. The ONLY reason the Board did pursue this inquiry was the THREATS TO MR. MONTGOMERY's FAMILY.
A Natural Born Citizen REQUIRES 2 US citizen parentS. Oba-Mao DOESN'T MEET CONSTITUTIONAL ELIGIBILITY, since only his mother was a US citizen at the time of his birth...IF he was even born in Hawaii. There is so much EVIDENCE DISPROVING his birth there that the Board SHOULD HAVE CONSIDERED. Oba-Mao's supporters could care less about the Constitutional requirements. They only see the FREEBIES the Kenyan, Muslim, Marxist promises them, not realizing the destructiveness of his LIES...(or maybe they do, but could care less.)

President Obama's father never lived with him in Indonesia nor did his father have US citizenship. As for schools in Indonesia, government employees and missionaries have kids attending Indonesia schools as we speak. Obama is an American and the only reason people are questioning this is because they still can't get over the fact that a black man can be on the same level as a white man. GET OVER IT PEOPLE. Obama will be president until 2016. He has done a lot for this country. Read fools! When Regan was in office the jobless right was at 10%. HELLO!

So now it's glaringly obvious that "Myth" Romney has nothing to do with "moderate" republicanism, that he has in fact drunk deep of the radical-right's paranoid kool-aid. Now that you've effectively alienated that 47% of your fellow countrymen you accuse of shiftlessness, what's next, eh GOP? What will you do when things REALLY get desperate, hmm? An emergency third-party rebellion? Or just rebellion-a la 'second-amendment solutions'? Having gotten a glimpse of your take on the American voter we can no longer be surprised by anything you do-including insurrection!
