#missing2min: The Romney tapes' two missing minutes

(CNN) – The secretly recorded tapes of Mitt Romney speaking at a fund-raiser in May were released first in clips on Monday, and later in their full form on Tuesday.

At least what appeared to be their full form: David Corn, the Washington bureau chief for Mother Jones, the magazine that first posted the tapes, says "one to two minutes" of the fund-raiser were never captured, according to the person who recorded it.

New polls give Obama slight edge

(CNN) - A slew of polls released over the past 24 hours in crucial battleground states suggest the race for the White House remains tight, but indicate President Obama with a slight edge over Republican nominee Mitt Romney. It's a similar storyline in new national polling.

All of the surveys were conducted either entirely or almost entirely before Monday afternoon's release of secretly recorded remarks that Romney made at a private fund-raiser in May, where he described supporters of President Barack Obama as dependent on government. Fallout from the controversial clips has dominated coverage of the race for the White House over the past two days.

Partisan field day: Reid, Durbin on Romney remarks

(CNN) – Senate Democrats hurried to the floor Wednesday to comment on Mitt Romney's controversial secretly recorded fund-raiser comments, among them Majority Leader Harry Reid who claimed that Romney "only wants to be president of half of the United States."

The video of the Republican nominee at a private, high-dollar fund-raiser in May posted Monday and Tuesday by the liberal news website Mother Jones went viral over Romney's comments claiming that nearly half of the population would automatically vote for President Obama because they are dependent on the government, among other controversial remarks.

Washington (CNN) - The Republican National Committee raised a record $35.6 million in August, giving the GOP a financial boost at a time when Mitt Romney's campaign was forced to take out a $20 million line of credit.

The RNC now has $76.6 million in the bank, a source at the committee told CNN.

Ryan for Congress ad: Safety goggles for safety campaign

(CNN) – One of the first ads for Rep. Paul Ryan's congressional campaign debuted online Wednesday, though the spot's staged conversation with factory workers stands in sharp contrast to the slickly produced ads produced for the Mitt Romney-Paul Ryan GOP presidential ticket.

The ad, which CNN reported last week would air in Milwaukee and Madison, features Ryan speaking to a group of factory workers. One asks, "What can be done to create good jobs?"

Romney, Republicans hit back with Obama 'redistribution' tape

(CNN) – After withstanding searing criticism from both rivals and fellow Republicans on his secretly recorded remarks at a fund-raiser in May, Mitt Romney and his campaign are mounting a counter-offensive with a recording they hope will go viral as well: then-Illinois state Senator Barack Obama speaking favorably of "redistribution."

The audio clip first surfaced Tuesday, as Democrats were seizing upon their own video of Romney speaking at a private fund-raiser in Florida. That event was held in May.

Pro-Romney super PAC launches ad offensive in Wisconsin and Michigan

Washington (CNN) - As both presidential campaigns signal Wisconsin is becoming a battleground state, the major Super PAC backing Mitt Romney is investing heavily there.

Restore Our Future confirmed it is buying $2.2 million worth of ad time for a week in both Wisconsin and Michigan, a state which has not received recent attention from either campaign or independent committees supporting them.

Romney says Obama's policies create dependency in op-ed

(CNN) – Amid a cloud of controversy over tapes showing Mitt Romney calling Americans dependent on government "victims," the GOP presidential nominee wrote in a USA Today op-ed that Americans were indeed becoming too dependent on the government, and that policies enacted by President Barack Obama were to blame.

"Under President Obama, we have a stagnant economy that fosters government dependency," Romney wrote. "My policies will create a growing economy that fosters upward mobility."

Obama campaign aims social media engagement at young voters

(CNN) - President Barack Obama's campaign on Wednesday announced a new social media outreach project which asks young supporters to share what matters to them this election season.

Supporters are encouraged to post photos of themselves to social media - such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram - with their hand placed over their heart. The campaign is encouraging supporters to write an issue which matters on their hand.

Pro-Obama super PAC turns tapes into ad

(CNN) – Priorities USA, the super PAC pushing for President Barack Obama's re-election, is using clips of a secretly recorded Mitt Romney fund-raiser in a new television ad to characterize the GOP presidential nominee as out of touch with Americans' economic struggles.

The group said Wednesday the commercial would air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin, all battlegrounds that Obama won in the 2008 election and hopes to take again in November.
