Romney: Yes, 'I can'

Atlanta (CNN) – Mitt Romney fought back Wednesday after two of the most difficult days of his campaign, and argued Wednesday "I can" do more for the poor and middle class than President Obama.

In a speech to donors in Atlanta the GOP presidential nominee seemed to address concerns he had written off some voters during a May fund-raiser, when he said 47% of voters are dependent on government and unlikely to support his campaign.

Since that leaked video broke Monday, Romney has stood by his remarks but called them "not elegantly stated."

On Wednesday Romney took a new tack, setting up a comparison between himself and President Obama.

"The question of this campaign is not who cares about the poor and the middle class? I do. He does," Romney said in a fiery address that came as the leaked videos topped headlines for the third day. "The question is who can help the poor and the middle class? I can! He can't!"

The Republican candidate renewed his criticism of the president over another opposition-leaked video, this time of Obama. The 1998 tape shows the then-state senator endorsing "redistribution."

"I know there are some who believe that if you simply take from some and give to others then we'll all be better off. It's known as redistribution. It's never been a characteristic of America," Romney said. "There's a tape that came out just a couple of days ago where the president said yes he believes in redistribution. I don't."

Romney has continued a fund-raising heavy schedule this week, with donor events in California, Utah, Texas and Georgia. He will address voters in a public campaign event in Florida Wednesday evening.

Ain't buyin. If outsourcing and hiding from taxes helps America, then he's an expert, but I think he understands his horse better than he understands the 47 million he's written off.

"It's known as redistribution. It's never been a characteristic of America,""

It's been a verifiable, demonstrable, mathematically proven, undeniable characteristic of the nation's economy for well over the past 50 years, particularly the past 30 years: all of the wealth and assets and income are being redistributed upwards by our tax code and economic policies.

Apparently, however, the GOP/Teatrolls believe "that doesn't count." Ridiculous. Know what really doesn't count? Teatrolls. Arithmetic just isn't their thing.

    ----------------------------------
Your tax policy proves otherwise. Your immigration stance proves otherwise. The cat's out of the bag now Willard. We all know what you think about 47% of us. We're a bunch of freeloading, government dependent, degenerates.

You have NO idea about the struggles of the Middle Class. You have NEVER been there. Your heart & mind are incapable of comprehending those things.

Who has helped the poor and middle class? Obama has, Romney hasn't. Just saying something after months of saying the opposite isn't going to convince anyone at this point, no many how desperately you try to say it.

You sure CAN by going away permanently, NEVER to return again to politics.

Well one thing is for sure. Four more years of Obama in the Whitehouse will only bring the same record unemployment and record debt. It is part of his redistribution plan. He's going to spread the misery around to everybody.

Im very impressed with Mitt. every where he turns some news agencey (obama suck ups) try to throw dirt on him.
Bottom line there is nothing bad about this guy. hes been accused of killing a bain employees wife, hating this, hating that and he has hung in. Hes rich so what??? Its apparent hes not doing it for the money In my book Mr Romney win or lose is A PATRIOT end of story. He is trying to help America not divide it, bankrupt it , or embarass it like the jerk currentley in office. the media is biased it makes me want to puke !!!! very typical a non-productive carter started this.

"I know there are some who believe that if you simply take from some and give to others then we'll all be better off.

Just as YOU did when you got "better off" by firing employees, killing their pensions and pocketing millions during your tenure at Bain? That redistribution?

Okay, CNN, is this really the picture you wanted to use of Romney? Looks like he's trying to arrange those boats on the oceans he doesn't plan to save if elected. Take pity on the man! He's having a rough week.

Mr. Romney, you not only stated it wrong, you stated it period. That's the way some very rich and wealthy people talk and think. Just like you said "I own American cars, a pickup truck and sports car and oh yes, my wife has two Cadillacs". Do you see where you went wrong you MORON?

As a professor stated a last week on CNN, you have been hijacked by the conservatives. Like in poker "your all in". You candidacy, either will live or die with the conservatives

By getting rid of EITC and mortgage deductions, he will raise taxes on the middle class and the poor and successfully eliminate that "47%." But at the same time, Republicans would create a new breed of taxless millionaires by eliminating capital gains taxes and the corporate income tax.

It will be the greatest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich since colonial days days.

On the tape Robmey said he would not do anything for the economy. He said that the economy would just come back because people will just get out there and make it happen. What an ego to think that his persona is enough to magically make everything better. I wonder if that is why the GOP in congress has had other business to take care of, like personhood amendments, because they think doing nothing else will magically help the economy? Yeah right, they are the team of "make President Obama a one term President", and screw the American people.
Dream on in your magical underwear Robmey.

He already said he didn't care about the poor and middle class (and by the 47% comment- the elderly and the military either). He actually believes things like the conomy are just going to improve with his election "I don't actually have to do anything" he said on the tape.
Mr. Romney simply wasn't ready for this election.
