Ann Romney lashes back at conservative critics

(CNN) - Ann Romney has a message for her husband's conservative critics: try walking a mile in her husband's shoes.

"Stop it. This is hard. You want to try it? Get in the ring," she said in a Thursday interview with Radio Iowa.

Several high-profile conservative commentators have criticized Romney's recent campaign tactics, topping off a tough week for the Republican presidential nominee. Earlier in the week, a left-leaning magazine released secretly recorded clips of Mitt Romney speaking at a May fundraiser which dominated the week's political news coverage. Last week, the Romney campaign struggled in its response to violence in several Arab countries with left the American ambassador to Libya and several others dead.

Peggy Noonan, whose conservative columns appear in The Wall Street Journal, hit Romney's campaign, calling it "incompetent." In another column published after Ann Romney's Radio Iowa interview, Noonan stood by her comments and dealt another blistering blow, saying her word choice was "only because I was being polite. I really meant 'rolling calamity.'"

And Bill Kristol, editor of the conservative publication The Weekly Standard, likened Barack Obama and Mitt Romney as "two presidential candidates who - when they thought they were speaking privately to their fellow 1 percenters - have shown contempt for fellow Americans."

In his comments at the secretly recorded event, Romney said 47% of the electorate viewed themselves as victims and were dependent upon government support, and therefore would vote for Obama.

In her Thursday interview, Ann Romney said she does not let the criticism "sink in."

"You hear it and then you just let it go right by; you are used to it," she said. "Honestly, at this point, I'm not surprised by anything."

Romney said the election this year is important and "it is time for all Americans to realize how significant this election is and how lucky we are to have someone with Mitt's qualifications and experience and know-how to be able to have the opportunity to run this country."

And, did you and Mitt really feel this would be a walkover? That you'd get exempted because you own a fortune. Welcome to the real world Ann. And, since you can feel the heat now; I hope that little brain of yours will be able to process how hard it would actually be to be the POTUS. If you cannot take this, no reason why you and Mitt should really be in the White House. Please head back to your home with the car elevator – suits you better.

Mrs. Romney, If your husband can't run a campaign how can he run the country? He's a disaster & as Peggy Noonan says: "incompetent."

Peggy Noonan and Bill Kristol have shown their true colors. Their input and influence over thinking conservatives are no longer relevant. That is all.

I think I can comfortably say that if after this much campaigning, she feels that there is some kind of surprise or doubt involved in campaigning for the presidency being hard, that she is absolutely telling the truth: She does not let criticism sink in. Which is sort of a problem if you want to improve yourself over time...

Seriously, this kind of response? This is not what I want to see from people who think they want to run a country. I think I would trust them to run a country club.

Ya ya ya, Mit has not drawn the right experience to be President of the USA. You should be President of all people irrespective of whether they vote for you or not. Time to say, President Barack Obama.

Mrs. Romney,.. if you can't take the heat,..get out of the kitchen. Politics is not a country club, or some mahogany panelled board room,.. it's a cut throat, back stabbing business. Despite your high opinion of your husband as a politician,..the fact is,..he's not ready for prime time,..he's a disaster, waiting to be visited on the American people.

WOW! It is OK for her husband to lie and bad mouth President Obama 24/7, but don't touch her "mittins". If you are constantly "dishing- out" criticism you better be prepared to take some too. I read an article a while back where she was complaining that the President was trying to destroy her husband, Well Michelle Obama has a husband also and you don't hear her crying over the relentless attacks on her husband. Mrs. "Mittins" – stop whinning!.. If you are going to play in the big league you have to have thick skin. I am sure you have heard the scripture that says "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".. If you treat others with respect they just might reciprocate.

Oh, Ann, it would have been so helpful if you and your husband would have ever walked a few miles in the shoes of average Americans! Never mind the insults the President had to put up with from the GOP/TP and your husband! He never responded in kind!
Not suspecting but “knowing” now so much about your husband makes it impossible to even consider voting for him. And that includes a lot of Republicans who noticed how they have been dismissed by your husband! Never mind the international community that also follows what your husband’s inadequate thoughts are!
Time to stop this GOP/TP and R+R madness. Strait Democratic ticked in 2012!

If her husband was a honest man with character, integrity who shared his taxes, talked specifics on the issues, and acted like a leader; Ann would not have to leave her 5 homes and country club meetings to defend her indefensible husband who still does not understand the core of America, its people or values.
