BREAKING: Ann Romney plane makes emergency landing

(CNN) – Ann Romney's plane made an emergency landing in Colorado on Friday, a spokeswoman from Mitt Romney's presidential campaign tweeted.

"All okay. Thank goodness," the spokeswoman, Andrea Saul, wrote on Twitter.

Saul added the cause of the emergency was apparently "an electrical fire" after the cabin of the plane filled with smoke. Romney's plane was headed to Los Angeles but landed in Denver, where it was met with emergency vehicles on the runway.

Ann Romney's press secretary, Sarah Haley, was also on the plane.

An official with the Federal Aviation Administration said no injuries were reported on the plane, which was on its way from Omaha, Nebraska.

"A Canadair Challenger 601 charter flight operated by World Wide Jet, diverted to Denver today at about 2:40 p.m. MDT after the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit. The flight was en route from Omaha, NE to Santa Monica, CA. The aircraft landed safely on runway 35L and passengers exited the aircraft via stairs on a taxiway. No injuries were reported," Laura J. Brown, deputy assistant administrator for public affairs with the FAA, said in a statement.

A Secret Service official confirmed the incident.

"We can confirm that a plane carrying Mrs. Romney and two Secret Service personnel did make an emergency landing about 4:25 ET. It was at the Denver airport," the official said. "Basically what we understand there was some type of smoke in the cabin. All personnel were safe."

The official could not say who else was on board.

Campaign spokesman Rick Gorka said Mitt Romney spoke with his wife on the phone and is set to take the stage at a campaign event in Las Vegas.

Unrelatedly, the emergency landing came days after Romney's campaign canceled an event in Colorado on Sunday due to investigations of a plane crash at the Pueblo airport. The campaign said they did not want to "interfere" with the investigation.

– CNN's Rachel Streitfeld, Kevin Liptak, Ashley Killough and Aaron Cooper contributed to this report.

Hi, I'm a Conservative Republican. Could you please send me some "I hate you" memos on this thread. Thank you. (Just doing some research.)

Don't confuse hate with frustration ,Cynicism or skepticism .
True , there are some very disrespectful comments posted . Yet none as hatful , racist and disrespectful to our President as some of the post from the right.

After eight years of GW Bush and the mess he left all of us . Maybe like your friend say's , It's time to man up and say we were worn , sorry !

Bill Clinton is right on , your guy almost destroyed this country in his eight years , and now you blame Obama because he didn't clean it up in four years. Its a lot easier to tear a home down then it is to build it right , never forget that .

I'm glad all are safe and not going to say anything snarky or nasty about the flight incident. However, I would bring attention to the marquee photo. All those women (who are not under attack from the GOP by the way), would Ann Romney hang out with them were it not for pandering for their votes? She would? He11 no she wouldn't!! Oh yeah. The Romney's have ALL our interest at heart...you people.

Thankfully every thing is ok, however, I do have a question: Why is Canadaire being used. Are there no U.S. charter flights available? Perhaps Canadaire is an American Co. Just asking. BTW, I am a life long registered republican who is NOT happy about Mitt. My party has been co-opted by hateful, angry people who appear to not be at all interested in the good of the country.

Glad everyone is ok as that is what is most important. Now, let us discuss the company that provided the charter flight: Canadaire. I hope this is in fact an American company. If not, as Repub, I have a few questions. Sorry to the rest of America that Mitt is the best the party felt it could offer. My party is essentially unrecognizable to me; full of hate and malice. I know the Repub. party had better to offer, one of them, Huntsman, dropped out and that is a shame. I do not think I can vote for Mitt.

Penguin – good grief, get a grip. When you fly,do you inquire as to the exact model of plane you will fly on? Take a deep breath and calm down. Sheesh.

It is amazing how uninformed and just plan stupid people are.....The jet was made by Canadair. They make most of the commuter jets flying in the US. It was chartered from a US company. Romney is not outsourcing is air travel to Canada. Stupid, Stupid people.

Good thing that Mrs. Romney and everyone aboard are safe. No need to inject politics into what was a potentially dangerous and life threatening situation for them.

I'm glad to see that she is okay even though I am against everything she stands for. I do wonder though why this is news? It doesn't say anything about the other passengers on the plane and this wouldn't be news if it were not for a Romney on the flight. Hopefully she can get a union worker to fix her plane back in working order.

I doubt that Ann was really frightened about this incident. Remember, she wears that very special Mormon underwear which protects here from such things as an airline crash.
