BREAKING: Ann Romney plane makes emergency landing

(CNN) – Ann Romney's plane made an emergency landing in Colorado on Friday, a spokeswoman from Mitt Romney's presidential campaign tweeted.

"All okay. Thank goodness," the spokeswoman, Andrea Saul, wrote on Twitter.

Saul added the cause of the emergency was apparently "an electrical fire" after the cabin of the plane filled with smoke. Romney's plane was headed to Los Angeles but landed in Denver, where it was met with emergency vehicles on the runway.

Ann Romney's press secretary, Sarah Haley, was also on the plane.

An official with the Federal Aviation Administration said no injuries were reported on the plane, which was on its way from Omaha, Nebraska.

"A Canadair Challenger 601 charter flight operated by World Wide Jet, diverted to Denver today at about 2:40 p.m. MDT after the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit. The flight was en route from Omaha, NE to Santa Monica, CA. The aircraft landed safely on runway 35L and passengers exited the aircraft via stairs on a taxiway. No injuries were reported," Laura J. Brown, deputy assistant administrator for public affairs with the FAA, said in a statement.

A Secret Service official confirmed the incident.

"We can confirm that a plane carrying Mrs. Romney and two Secret Service personnel did make an emergency landing about 4:25 ET. It was at the Denver airport," the official said. "Basically what we understand there was some type of smoke in the cabin. All personnel were safe."

The official could not say who else was on board.

Campaign spokesman Rick Gorka said Mitt Romney spoke with his wife on the phone and is set to take the stage at a campaign event in Las Vegas.

Unrelatedly, the emergency landing came days after Romney's campaign canceled an event in Colorado on Sunday due to investigations of a plane crash at the Pueblo airport. The campaign said they did not want to "interfere" with the investigation.

– CNN's Rachel Streitfeld, Kevin Liptak, Ashley Killough and Aaron Cooper contributed to this report.

Hi Anonymous, I have a lot of conservative values, but I could never vote for this current GOP platform, they are fringe and extreme.

It's typical left-wing reactions that would attack her personally due to the fact they have no counter debates to the real issues at hand.

Ann, IF YOUR MAN CAN'T TAKE THE HEAT, HE SHOULD GET THE HELL OUT OF THE RACE.
No one believes anything that comes from him or Ryan anyway. The tax returns are a joke for those who care to believe. America is not stupid. Romney is a fake and he lies so many times, and the sad part/he always gets caught.
Romney is going down in USA history as the worse candidate ever to run for the presidency and the worse governor that don't give a dam about American jobs. ROONEY'S GOING DOWN AND OUT!

@Ed1 – yes, I am sick and tired of all the lies coming from the right and this failed campaign.
She has tried her MS and cancer. Who is to say this wasn't a ploy? Sorry, but this is what happens when you lie time and time again. When something real happens nobody believes you!

So sad to go so low as saying Ann lied about her MS and Cancer what a SOB you are nothing to do with the right or left this was a person nothing like you are.

This must be from someone still drinking the kool aid or still smoking the crack pipe glad I don't have to come home to you every night I think I would just shoot myself instead. What has this person done to you nothing I don't see how you could even like yourself.

To all you haters out there need to think about a friend and/or a loved one was on that plane and it crashed on the runway. Nothing like being self righteous and arrogant. You should be ashamed of the remarks you made. I bet if it was the pres or his wife and somebody made those kind of remarks, and even worse being racist. This is why our country is so divisive and it won't get any better as the election day approaches. Give some thought before you make such outlandish remarks.

I was undecided on who to vote for until I read these comments. Mean, mean people who claim to care so much. I won't vote for Pres. Obama, he may be as fake as his supporters.

There's gotta be a way for Romney to pin this one on Obama. Obama is responsible for every bad storm, anything that happens in another country, any pandemic, and everything else.
