BREAKING: Ann Romney plane makes emergency landing

(CNN) – Ann Romney's plane made an emergency landing in Colorado on Friday, a spokeswoman from Mitt Romney's presidential campaign tweeted.

"All okay. Thank goodness," the spokeswoman, Andrea Saul, wrote on Twitter.

Saul added the cause of the emergency was apparently "an electrical fire" after the cabin of the plane filled with smoke. Romney's plane was headed to Los Angeles but landed in Denver, where it was met with emergency vehicles on the runway.

Ann Romney's press secretary, Sarah Haley, was also on the plane.

An official with the Federal Aviation Administration said no injuries were reported on the plane, which was on its way from Omaha, Nebraska.

"A Canadair Challenger 601 charter flight operated by World Wide Jet, diverted to Denver today at about 2:40 p.m. MDT after the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit. The flight was en route from Omaha, NE to Santa Monica, CA. The aircraft landed safely on runway 35L and passengers exited the aircraft via stairs on a taxiway. No injuries were reported," Laura J. Brown, deputy assistant administrator for public affairs with the FAA, said in a statement.

A Secret Service official confirmed the incident.

"We can confirm that a plane carrying Mrs. Romney and two Secret Service personnel did make an emergency landing about 4:25 ET. It was at the Denver airport," the official said. "Basically what we understand there was some type of smoke in the cabin. All personnel were safe."

The official could not say who else was on board.

Campaign spokesman Rick Gorka said Mitt Romney spoke with his wife on the phone and is set to take the stage at a campaign event in Las Vegas.

Unrelatedly, the emergency landing came days after Romney's campaign canceled an event in Colorado on Sunday due to investigations of a plane crash at the Pueblo airport. The campaign said they did not want to "interfere" with the investigation.

– CNN's Rachel Streitfeld, Kevin Liptak, Ashley Killough and Aaron Cooper contributed to this report.

I'm so sick of the Food Stamp comments. The only reason there are more people on Food Stamps now, is because George W, caused the biggest financial crisis since the great depressions. If Obama's at fault, it's for not letting people starve after the disaster that was the Bush presidency.

And I voted for the idiot the first time...but you can believe I won't be voting for Mitt. George W with all his faults at least gave the impression that he cared about the country as a whole. Mitt cares about, money and power, and his rich friends and what they can do for him.

Why do you think he want to spend 2 trillion more dollars on defense? The Secretary of Defense isn't even asking for more money. It's because Mitt not only has friends that own NASCARs but he also has friends that make military equipment...Equipment even the military doesn't want...but Mitt wants to buy some anyway.

Anyone that would buy a used car from this guy deserves the Lemon they'll undoubtedly get.

Its amazing what our media reports on. This woman has nothing to do with the presidential race, yet people listen to her speeches as if shes running for president. If only half of my nations people had an IQ above double digits maybe we wouldn't be so irreparably doomed.

harryjp... Never... Ever... Did Obama make any kind of statement that he didn't care about those that carry bibles and guns. NEVER. That is Fox crap, and you know it. Don't make things up to cover up for your inadequate and wrongful voting record – that got us into this economic mess. It makes you look even more foolish.

Is this really the Democratic mindset? Using the potential harm to another human being as a chance to spew derogatory statements about them? Oh that's right. Brought to you by the same people who say the anti-Muslim video is "disgusting" but the Book of Mormon production in New York is entertaining and brilliant.

If we could only figure out how to bottle the energy emanating from the hatred on the left, we would have a lifetime of energy. Why, we could eliminate the EPA altogether.

Harryjp4jp8: Mr. Romney did not say he didn't care about half the people, he said most of the 47 % that don't pay federal income taxes don't care about tax cuts and aren't going to vote for him, so he is not trying to reach them with his message of tax cuts. He said it's not his job to reach them, in context "it's not his job as a candidate to reach the people that aren't going to listen to him, he needs to spend his time and resources on the people who are willing to listen".

We all should be glad that Mrs. Romney is safe. However, her husband should re-think having the electrical system worked on by a Chinese company – just to save a few bucks and keep the Chinese employed.

Let's face it- if you were a plane that had to carry Mitt Romney's wife around, you'd probably try to immolate yourself too!

I'm glad to see that even on CNN, *most* of you are willing to put politics aside for a moment and at least respond with a human, "I'm glad everyone is okay." Those of you who think it's funny to make jokes about an aviation near-miss, I just hope it never happens to you.

I too am very happy that all on board are okay. How very sad though that we seem to live in a society that even being happy about another human beings well being has to somehow be prefaced by what our political ideaologies are. As evidenced by many of the comments here. How about just being human beings who are happy about other human weings well being and leave it at that.

"Huh, the thing I find most shocking about this article is an African American person in the audience supporting a republican (look at the picture)."

Yes, but her eyes are closed – I think they drugged her and propped her up in the stands.
