Cain says he'd be winning

(CNN) – Herman Cain, the one-time frontrunner for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, offered reporters in Florida Thursday some speculation on what could have been if he had remained in the race.

According to the Gainesville Sun, Cain said he would have a "substantial lead" over President Barack Obama if he were the Republican nominee instead of Mitt Romney.

"The reason is quite simple: I have some depth to my ideas," he said.

Cain, who suspended his own bid for the GOP presidential nomination in December amid a flurry of allegations of past sexual impropriety, backed Mitt Romney in May – his third endorsement after dropping out of the race.

In January, after teasing an "unconventional endorsement" in the GOP presidential race, Cain came out in support of "the people," saying it was the beginning of a political revolution.

Later in January, Cain announced he was endorsing former House Speaker Newt Gingrich ahead of Florida's closely watched GOP primary. At the time, Cain praised Gingrich's "bold ideas" as the basis for his choice, saying Gingrich wasn't afraid to propose big ideas that would benefit the nation, even if they invited the ridicule of his rivals.

In May (as Romney secured the number of delegates required to clinch the GOP nomination), Cain held an endorsement event in Washington, D.C. for Romney.

Cain attracted attention and followers for aggressively promoting his "9-9-9" tax plan, as well as for his charismatic personality and appeal among tea party activists. He enjoyed a spike in Republican primary polls last fall, but when he dropped out of the race in December polls showed him toward the back of the pack of candidates.

  1. ThinkAgain: If you liked GW Bush's economic, military and foreign policies, vote for Mittens

Blah blah blah, Herman. Here's what folks should know:

The unemployment rate for veterans is 11% (3% higher than the national average). Over 700,000 veterans are currently unemployed. Democrats proposed a bill ("Veterans Job Corps Bill") to help veterans find jobs ($1 billion to help veterans find jobs in law enforcement, fire department and/or federal lands), but guess what?

The bill was voted "Yea" by 58 Senators and "Nay" by only 40. And since there wasn't a super-majority (60 votes) in favor of it, Republicans blocked it from passing.

Republican Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn lead the fight against the bill, citing fiscal responsibility and the need to stop using accounting tricks to pay for budget expenditures.

Funny how using accounting tricks and keeping huge expenses – LIKE THE IRAQ AND AFGHAN WARS – off the books was perfectly fine with Coburn back in the day. Now that veterans have come home and could use some help finding employment, Coburn thinks that's wrong.

In summary, $800 billion for war; no worries. $1 billion to take care of the folks who actually fought the war after they get back and pay for that in ways you don't like: we can't afford it. (BTW, it would have been paid for by "recovering more money from tax-delinquent Medicare providers and forcing big tax deadbeats to pay up before receiving passports,” according to bill co-sponsor Patty Murray D-WA.)

Like I said, not so sweet. Pathetically unsurprising, though.

Do you really think they want you?? Who do you think threw you under the bus??? My money is on Newt, Willard or Allen West.

No, you are a token in the Republican Party. Romney won the primary because he was a better candidate than you (you were an one-issue candidate), he was better-funded than you, and he had fewer skeletons in the closet than you.
