Rubio tweets his airline woes

(CNN) – Sen. Marco Rubio’s flight to Washington, D.C. Friday night was not all friendly skies.

But that was before he even took off.

The Senator from Florida shared his travel woes via a series of nine posts to Twitter.

“Every American flight I have been on this week has been at least two hours late or cancelled. This one already one hour delayed,” he posted Friday evening.

Shortly after, he posted, “American Air says maintenance problem.Yet suddenly group of new passengers boarding.Holding plane to get connectors on from delayed flight?”

In another post, he added, “Delaying flight for ‘maintenance’ to squeeze connectors from other flight, oldest trick in book. Feel bad for crew.#cmonman#AmericanAirlines.”

The pilots and flight attendants, he said in a separate post, are “top notch.”

But his skepticism towards the airline continued to be evident as he relayed: “Oh guess what? They fixed the plane! Just as the last of the connecting passengers finished boarding. #magic.”

His frustration earned him a sympathetic response from the airline.

“Thanks for your patience, Marco. We hope you have a great flight,” read a post to the official Twitter feed of American Airlines.

The pilots, Rubio said on the social media site, are “two military veterans, lovers of liberty and believers in Constitution.”

His stream of posts ended with what was likely a familiar directive from the cockpit.

“I must now turn [off] my electronic device,” he posted. “I hope tonight's tirade didn't cost me my Executive Platinum status.”

Rubio is no stranger to flight issues. In July, he eventually called into a campaign rally after his plane made what he described as an “emergency landing” when passengers aboard the plane believed they saw smoke.

And that, he said, was his second plane malfunction of the day.

Earlier Friday, a charter plane carrying Ann Romney, GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s wife, was forced to make an emergency landing when what the pilot described as an electrical issue led to smoke in the cabin.

After everyone emerged from that flight safely, one of Romney’s sons himself took to Twitter to point out a light hearted moment between his mother and a Secret Service agent.

Matt Romney tweeted: “Who says USSS doesn't have sense of humor? Upon landing tonight, agent leaned over to my mom and said: ‘so this was the non-smoking flight.’ ”

I think these idiots of United Airlines, American airlines need to wake up–Lufthansa gives free 2 bags, provides drinks, food, whereas these United and American and delta are stupid to charge...

Maybe if the plane had crashed he would have been happier.

#dd...How is this the union's fault, exactly? Does the union decide to hold up a flight and let on more passengers? I'm pretty sure that would be a management decision dude.

Don't understand the GOP union bashing. Unions are american workers who are trying keep living wage jobs. When unions are weakened it opens the door for illegal workers (ie. construction industry)

Typical of a republican to complain when a company does something that interferes with that Republicans life. BUT, it's quite OK for republicans to make life miserable for everybody else. Go away, Rubio the cry baby.

Senator Rubio – my favorite GOP on the move again. He nearly missed a vote in Washington to keep the money flowing to pay Americas bills for the next 6 months. Yes, he voted NO! Haven't the U.S. Citizens had enough of this bi-partisan nonsense. This shows you what the Republican Senators think of your countries inhabitants. They are well-heeled enough to endure a fairly long spell of financial difficulty, while the average citizen is not. Remember this when it comes time to vote folks.

Sorry Rubio, squeezing every penny out of every situation you possibly can is what Corporations are all about. It's your vaunted CAPITALISM at work. It's the altar at which you and your politcal party worship at. It can cause things like your flight being delayed and it can cause things like people's pay and benefits being cut while the corporation increases it's profits. Certainly you can't blame these corporations for being successful and stepping on you in order to acheive it, can you? It's what you guys praise all day long.

I support REAL capitalism...local businesses, mom and pop stores, made in America goods. The society of corporations the Repubs support destroys lives and is destroying the American economy, all in the name of profit.

You know what, I give credit to AA for holding up the flight for connecting flights. Imagine if you miss your flight becasue your other flight before hand was late due to being stuck on the tarmac for an hour or two due to various no mechanical reasons. Its happened to me in France, it sucked. It almost happened to me in NYC except i was so lucky to be flying with a Military man going on the same connecting flight. Trying to find another flight on sch late notice is hard, expecially if your flying to a small airport like Syracuse. If I missed my flight to syracuse I was stuck in NYC likely for the night. AA keeping their flight for othr flights to get in is a good thing. If Rubio is inconvinenced by it, imagine the 10 or 15 people who would of missd thier flight and can't get home.

Our military pilots, service men and women don't have it as easy as you Mr. Rubio and Romney's five(5) sons, they don't get a chance to just sit on a plane and do nothing, their planes are going to the battlefield where they fight and die for us all. I'm tired of hearing about these little powder puff pandered little boys woes in life.

American Airlines is not my favorite airline, by any stretch. But, I am tired of the pilots and flight attendants getting the short-end-of-the-stick. I am a frequent flyer and I have only seen professionalism from flight attendants and the crew. The airlines need to stop making the pilot's job any more difficult than it already is. The crew needs to be respected. After all, our lives depend on their professionalism.

No doubt Rubio thinks too much regulation is responsible for all the economic woes. He doesn't like the way American runs its operation. Aren't Tea Party types all about choice and freedom? Of course when he is inconvenienced it's a major issue. Spoiled brat.

Whahhhh. When you've dealt with lost luggage (mlore than once), over 3 hour delay on a tarmac (with no access to a bathroom), or had to be pulled from a plane because of a hydrolic fire on landing (I have!) then you MAY have something to complain about. Until then, maybe you should fly Bain.

It was the republicans under Reagan that deregulated the airlines. Results? Bankruptcies, delays, cancellations, no meals, bad meals, small seats and extra charges. That worked out really well.

I had to travel twice the last two weeks and had similar experience with AA. This airlines seriously needs to upgrade their fleet of planes.

The republicans deregulated the airlines under Reagan. How did that work out? Bankruptcies, delays, cancellations, no meals, bad meals, small seats, no leg room and extra charges for everything.

Rubio is simply trying to get some national exposure. That way, in the next Presidential race, he will be a familiar product. Even though Rubio is not the brightest crayon in the box, he has learned a very valuable lesson. If you wish to appear smart, hang around slow witted people and folk will start assocating you with being the brightest individual in the group. Hence, all the photo ops with Romney and Ryan.

WOW, Rubio, welcome to our world... Your the politician "WE" here in Florida put you in office. Fix the issues..., that's what we pay you for. But you had better listen to those in the poverty/medium income range; we put you there, now represent the people! Quit the partisan politics and listen to "We The People"

Too bad Rubio. This is unfettered corporationism at work. They are just trying to make more money, this is what Republicans talk about all day long as being what America is all about. So what if your plane is delayed. So what if the mechanics are high school drop outs with no training, whatever it takes to make more dollars, free market. You should be praising their ingenuity at profiting as much money as possible whenever possible.

What a doofus. Has Rubio not read the news lately? The pilots are writing up every little piddly maintenance issue just to delay flights because they're ticked with AA over their contracts. We had a flight that was delayed because "there was inadequate ice for the flight". Had to sit & wait for a flipping 10 lb bag of ice to be delivered by craft services. Friend had a flight delayed because one of the coffee pots wasn't working properly. Seriously AA pilots!! Could you be any more childish???
