(CNN) - Mitt Romney's latest campaign ad criticizes President Barack Obama, using an excerpt from a recently released book that recounts tension between Obama and top Democrats on Capitol Hill.
"If he cannot lead his own party, how can he lead America?" the ad asks.

The book, "The Price of Politics" by noted author and reporter Bob Woodward, cited in the spot delves into the 2011 wrangling over a deal to increase the national debt limit, averting a federal government shutdown and loan default.
The showdown led to the so-called "super committee" and, with that group's failure to reach a solution, the sequestration, which is just months away.
Romney's campaign ad points to an excerpt from the book, regarding a call the president placed to House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid.
"As President Obama spoke, Nancy Pelosi hit the mute button, went on with their meeting, ignoring the president, not even listening to what he had to say," the narrator says.
Pelosi, however, took issue with the characterization of the phone call in a statement responding to the ad.
"As Speaker and as Democratic Leader, any call from the President would (be) treated with great formality and respect. There was absolutely no situation in which either President Bush or President Obama were cut off from speaking. I respect the office of the President and the office of the Speaker, including the historic nature of any communication between these two offices," Pelosi said. "Clearly, this ad is an act of desperation."
Although the White House has not previously commented on that particular episode, Press Secretary Jay Carney did speak earlier this month about Obama's cross-party dealings.
"The president's leadership on that was, from my perspective, significant," Carney said.
Romney's campaign did not say where it made the ad buy, nor how much it cost.

How can we trust republicans when they don't invite the previous president and vice president to their convention to speak? Penguins are flightless birds.
Only Romney and his campaign as well as the GOP Congress and filibuster Senate are not aware of the beam in their own eyes and talk constantly about the splinter in the eye of the President.
Stop this GOP/TP, R+R madness and get your voter ID ready… Have fun telling the party of “NO” no in November!
Let's not kid ourselves, running a country is difficult and there will be times were people on your own side will not agree with you. If Romney expects the Tea party people in his party to kowtow to him, then he's in for a big shock.
How stupid is the romoney campaign , do they think that Presidential administrations are child's play as a matter of fact these
are part of what Presidents go through every one of them from Nixon, Reagan, Clinton, Bush I, etc and he thinks that Obama
should be an exception. BTW what about him is he not being at the backpockets of every right wing nutcases from the right,
from the tea parties to the birthers and the gop establishment, after pandering to all three of them how can he lead without
seeking permission from them.
Throwing to much dirt at the President and thinking it would stick is why people know that this fake businessman is not a real
leader. People don't want to know what was said about the President they want to know ideas which mr 47th in job creation
doesn't know about.
Mittens is criticizing someone for failing to lead his political party? Mr. Pot meet Mr. Kettle. How exactly are you knitting together and leading that incredibly fractured group of zealots once known as the Republican Party Mr. Romney?
They pressed the mute button. OK. Then what happened to the deal? Right. Cost us our AAA rating.
Even if this anecdote is true, we're looking for someone who is qualified to be president, not someone whose top priority is to satisfy grumpy politicians with giant egos, even if they are members of his own party.
Wow CNN actually ran this. CNN will generally irnore anything negative about OBama. We have never had a leader the has lead from behind as much as this. Controversial issues such as the debt ceiling he deon't get invovled with until it fails, them blame, blame, blame. Good Presidents have lead.
This Mittens is so pathetic to DIVERT the comments he made during PLORIDA GOP private meeting about 47% of Americans he would NOT care and VICTIMS. Ha, ha, HE wants to believe all BOGUS PAID nonsense. Yes, Obama12.
PS: most of the nation made up mind. If some one calls from GOP–I hang up.
"If he cannot lead his own party, how can he lead America?" the ad asks."
Ironic coming from the guy who cannot even hold his own party together during his campaign!
Good for them! Among his other blatant failures, this one was a biggie. Right into the fiscal cliff we go and it is because our President can't lead his way across a crowded room.
Why does Willard keep doing this to himself? He's the one that can't lead his own party. Quiet as it's kept, they don't even want him. He wasn't even good enough to be VP in 08. This is all he knows attack, attack, attack. An empty suited, empty headed bully. Sad. And this will backfire also Willard.
Yeah I heard CNN comeing out with a new awesome book called fact check mitt romney 1000 times in one decade lol smile cnn family love you all mitt romney just mad that cnn is fact checking the Double and Triple flip flopping mitt romney
Yes that what i want to know ,If John Boehner can't even control a Republican Control Congress, than how Is a Republican going to Control this Country. It been the Republican Control Congress that can't agree on anything In there own Party. All this Is another Mitt Romney LIE. Congress has the lowest favorable RATING any congress ever had.
We shouldn't vote for someone who has 4 bank accounts in foreign country, who wants to change medicare to voucher credit cart.
Another fumble by Romney. Mr. Obama is playing chess while Team Romney plays an Etch-a-Sketch variant of checkers.
The public isn`t going to buy into Obama being impotent within his party. They have no supporting evidence of it.
However, the public knows that the Republican Party – led by Mitch McConnell – CONSPIRED [on the day of his inaguration] to deny the President any legislative victories with the goal of making him fail.
Team Obama should checkmate the GOP`s use of Woodward`s book with the book [author escapes me] which details the cabal the Republicans held on January 20, 2009 to plot against America and its new leader.
