Romney: Obama 'trying to fool people'

Denver, Colorado (CNN) – Mitt Romney blamed President Barack Obama for mischaracterizing his positions and forcing him to spend more time fund-raising, as the GOP presidential candidate looked to turn around his campaign trajectory and end a difficult week.

The Republican standard-bearer did not push back when asked Sunday whether he had fallen behind the president in key swing states, but said he expected the upcoming trio of debates would help him set the record straight.

"He's trying to fool people into thinking that I think things that I don't," Romney told reporters on his campaign charter plane. "And that ends at the debates."

The first debate is scheduled for October 3 in Denver.

On his plane, Romney said Obama had incorrectly portrayed his policy positions on issues as diverse as the automobile industry bailout to abortion to tax proposals.

"He says I was in favor of liquidating the automobile industry - nothing could be further from the truth… He says I'm in favor of lowering taxes on wealthy people. No I'm not," Romney said, and he criticized Democratic campaign commercials. "He keeps running these things even though he knows they're wrong and saying them in rallies even though he knows they're wrong."

Romney, who in the past week was hit by the release of a covertly-filmed video in which he said 47% of Americans were dependent on government and by criticism from within his own party over the direction of his campaign, said as the election neared his role was to tell voters about his plans for the country.

As for public opinion polls, Romney said he did not pay much attention.

"I know in the coming six weeks they're very unlikely to remain where they are today, he said. "I'll either go up or I'll go down. It's unlikely that we'll just stay the same."

The Republican White House hopeful, who spent much of last week raising money in California, Florida and Texas, blasted Obama for opting out of public financing and forcing both candidates to spend more time wooing donors.

Last month Obama's campaign surprised political analysts by hauling in more money than Romney.

Romney said as his campaign moves forward he expected to be doing less fund-raising. The campaign has announced public events planned in Colorado and Ohio early this week.

"I don't expect this to be a contest of who can say the cutest phrase, I think it's a contest of very different directions for the country," Romney said. "And the president's direction will be spoken in the context of his record because he has a record. And my pathway forward will be spoken in the context of my record."

The Obama campaign quickly fired back a statement.

"It's odd that Mitt Romney, a former CEO, won't take personal responsibility for his campaign's troubles," said campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith. "And it certainly takes a lot of chutzpah for him–after his campaign bragged that it wouldn't be dictated by fact checkers–to shed crocodile tears over a legitimate discussion of his record and policies."

Obama is smarter. First, he did cause change in our society. First, he brought out a racial and political tension that still simmers amongst many groups of people. Second, he kept quiet while people down graded his birth, education, race, and religion, that made him a disqualified American. Then he out witted the Lilliy'est (historical context correct) SUPPOSEDLY best businessmen in America. He quietly brought Mr. Romney to his knees. He is just a better Politician, and businessman himself. All the while he did not compromise his belief to help those who are in compromised positions. Yes, we are in major debt. Yes, our economic system will collapse. Do not charge him with this. He was learning the very system in college that is failing us now. He is trumping everyone. Anyone wants change, but this is a hard lesson. Things you want always don't come on your terms. Source: History, Justice, Morality, "We the People", Past human suffering of the less thans', discourse. Our constitution only meant equal for Anglo folks. This is a cycle in history where power is shifting to those who want a better future. FROM THE GROUND UP. Any scholar would know this.

Mitt Romney has been attacked continuously at every turn of event by the MSM, I've watched how painful it is for CNN "broadcasters" to even give a 2 minute dedication to reveal the Obama bungling of the Libyan and Egypt meltdowns. They act like, but but but Carney and Rice and Hillary all said it was a spontaneous event, and the Muli's like us, there is no war on terror..Obama said so, he killed Usama, it's done, right??....and now back to an hour long dedication to those hidden tapes revealing the truth as we spin it about 47% of America not paying income tax...

"He's trying to fool people into thinking that I think things that I don't." Uh, yep. Spoken by the self-declared non-partisan moderate progressive non-birther severe conservative birther.

Romney's only possible preparation for the debates has been trying to learn to instantly switch positions just taken, on the basis of the rolling poll during the debates. Thus far, it's only been 3x daily.

Well, let's see. . .A spokesperson for Mittens claimed that his taxes were consistent with the statement he made in August. However, his August statement was not consistent with the May statement nor the July statement regarding
his taxes. The May and July statements were, believe it or not, consistent with each other. Now, Mittens, tell me again
who exactly is trying to fool people? Oh yeah, now which parts of the health care plan are you going to keep or are you
going to repeal all of it just as you stated in July?

Wow, Mitt sounds like he is going off the rails here.

I also think the debates will settle it. Mitt is looking to them to turn this thing around and Mitt does not do well under pressure.

Mitt-the-Twit is the one trying to fool people.
He gets caught on tape saying he doesn't care about half the country.
He supports Lyin-Ryan's budget ideas that certainly favor the rich and he still expects people to believe him?

OBAMA'S TRYING TO FOOL PEOPLE??????? This from the guy who's told over 500 documented lies in his campaign, so far! this from the guy who's been on both sides of every issue so far. the pic above speaks volumes about the state of his campaign. he's looking more like a wild-eyed, desperate fanatic every day. you can almost smell the flop sweat. if he doesn't know his campaign is going down the drain, he's a bigger fool than we thought. the American people are wise to the crap the repugs are throwing at us every day. we're not going back to the ideology that threw us into the worst recession since the Great Depression!

Boo hoo, ya big baby. Listen to your wife–campaigns are hard. If you aren't tough enough to run for President of the country, maybe you should run for president of the country CLUB instead.

    Do you believe this? Really?

Kinda hard to argue that you're not in favor of liquidating the auto industry when you write an op-ed piece entitled: "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt". And if Mittens' debate performances are anything like his tongue-tied press conferences and interviews: "The President is trying to make Americans think that I think things I don't think"...I can hardly wait...should be hilarious.

Mitt's right - Obama is using an old Jedi mind trick on us. Barack is trying to confuse us with FACTS.

Thankfully, Team Romney treats facts as thought they are gnats - pesky little annoyances to be either ignored or swatted away.

Coming from pants-on-fire Romney, who flip-flops constantly and chooses to double-down on lies even after facts are revealed. Projection again.

I'd like to know what Obama is trying to fool us Ameraicans about. Romney hasn't really come clear about that. In the 60 Minutes interview, Romney says that he wants to bring back freedom... When did we lose it?

Sorry mitt you should look into the mirror. You are an empty suit who wants a shot at the big office but you do not want it for the right reason. You are not entitled to it. You must earn it.

Romney didnt care about these finance issues when he was outspending his republican primary opponents 5 or 10:1. This sounds like like an excessive amount of whining from Romney no?
