(CNN) – Sen. Joe Manchin wants people to know he's serious about making cuts–and uses some special scissors in a new television ad to sharpen that point.
"For more than twenty years Joe Manchin has gotten his hair cut by the same barber–his wife Gayle," the ad's narrator says.

The unusual spot, released Monday, features the West Virginia senator sitting happily in his kitchen as he gets a new trim.
"So, it's not surprising as governor, he cut waste, cut taxes and put our state's finances in order," the narrator says.
Having first won the Senate seat in a 2010 special election to replace the late Sen. Robert Byrd, Manchin is now up for a full six-year term. Previously, the Democrat served as governor of the state.
The senator is defending his seat this fall against Republican John Raese, marking the second time the two candidates have gone head to head. Raese put up tough fight against Manchin in the 2010 special election.
The incumbent senator made headlines earlier this year for bucking those to his left in the party, deciding to skip the Democratic convention and hinting he may not vote for President Barack Obama.
As Manchin smiles in the new ad–the second of his campaign–his wife continues to snip away at his salt-and-pepper hair. The narrator claims that since moving to Capitol Hill, Manchin has returned $700,000 to the federal treasury.
"I'm Joe Manchin. I sponsored this ad because a penny saved is a penny earned," the lawmaker says.
But it's his wife, Gayle, who gets the final word.
"And he's cheap!"

Joe Manchin is as worthless as a republican. Raese is a Florida carpetbagger running in WV, but there is little difference between the two.
The democrats like spending money, war and welfare for individuals. The GOP like spending money, war and welfare for corporations. That's your choice.
Good ad on its own. Moreover I don't know why he votes Democrat, he has the conservative principles to be a great Republican.
Such a stooge. If he would go out and get his hair done by a professional, then he might be considered a job creator. And his hair woudl look better. Right now he looks like a dork.
So Democrats don't like their own man because???????
@ted – Right now he looks like a dork.

He's still got more than Romney.. any way you cut it!
Typical hillbilly behavior. How do we spell cheapskate?
If Joe Manchin were any dumber, he'd probably wonder why you can't open a window on an airplane.
So he is basically is putting a hard working barber out of work. So the real question is: is he REALLY saving money or is he putting a barber out of business and then on welfare?
Think about it.
David.. the reason he sides with Dems even tho 'it appears ' he has conservative views is that the republican field is totally unrecognizable anymore ... unless you have't noticed ( or maybe you have and are part of this group) the repubicans have been taken over by tea-party fanaticals who are unrecognizable to yester-years conservatives ... todays brand is mean, nasty and non-sensical.. today you have a party that boldly, blatently, proudly and unapologetically LIES right ot the television viewer ... and 48 % of the party , who recognizes the lying but figures that better than having the black man in for a second term, so they go along with all the birther, muslim, socialist nonsense,.. but then, as a former conservative that just got fed up with my partys out of control and un-paid for spending, I'm going for the libertarian this time around .!! because I can't honestly VOTE for Romney and leave that voting booth with my integrity intact .... I still have to look in the mirror the next morning.. and voting for Romney just won't cut it ... he has shown too much disdain for nearly half the country .. and I can't vote for that ...
A great way to kill small business.
One haircut every month is NOT going to put a barber out of business. One business being sent to China as Bain did would put a whole lot of people out of work.
Check this guys voting record for yourself and decide if he's a DINO or a RINO, or just a plain opportunist like so many others in Washington.
The haircut analogy hold little water when it comes to real life. If he wants to prove a point he could save even more money and cut his wife's hair for the next 20 years.
Only in West Virginian where everyone is related.
We need someone with common sense, not someone who is so cheap they squeek when they walk.
West Virginia , is there really such a thing as clean coal ?
Shame she didn't give him a reverse Mohawk.
So, someone does something for himself to save money and you acuse him of putting barbers out of work??
Typical union libs. He's doing someone else's job.
We need more cheap politicians. The problem is the politicians that we've got spend our money like drunken sailors. I'm a libertarian and I would vote for this guy!
Mebbe Manchin should spend a few bucks in the local community on a haircut.
A DINO and a turncoat.
Cutting your hair in the kitchen?.. I guess he likes a bit of fur on his dinner plate. Go to a barber and support small business, you cheapskate.
WV likes their coal and fret all about it all the time.. They want guaranteed farmer type subsidy. income ....Fire up the coal furnace and blacken the sky..Republicans...
