New Romney ad: Obama afraid to 'stand up to China'

(CNN) – For the second time in as many weeks, Mitt Romney's campaign released a new television ad blasting President Barack Obama as weak against China on trade.

"Fewer Americans are working today than when President Obama took office," the ad's narrator says. "It doesn't have to be this way. If Obama would stand up to China."

The spot criticizes the Obama administration for not labeling China a "currency manipulator," a designation that would allow the United States to more directly confront China over actions that have cheapened Chinese exports, undercut the prices of American goods and produced economic growth rates for China several times that of the U.S.

While critics caution that such a label could ultimately trigger a trade war with China, Romney made the issue a main point of contrast earlier this month on the campaign trail.

"The president has had the chance year after year ... to label China a currency manipulator, but he hasn't done so and I will label China the currency manipulator they are on the first day," Romney told a crowd of supporters in Virginia.

The new 30-second ad, "Stand up to China," points to intellectual property violations that originated in China and took advantage of American goods, including computers and fighter jet technology.

"Obama had years to stand up to China," the narrator says. "We can't afford four more."

In fact, the Obama administration last week filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization alleging China has illegally subsidized automotive exports and undercut American suppliers. The president trumpeted the move while campaigning in the major auto territory of Ohio.

"It's not right. It's against the rules, and we will not let it stand," Obama said of the China trade policy. "American workers build better products than anyone. 'Made in America' means something. And when the playing field is level, America will always win."

But Romney's team hit back, saying in a statement the move was "too little, too late."

The new Romney ad Monday hits airwaves the same day the Republican presidential nominee's campaign launches a three-day bus tour in the Buckeye State.

The Romney team did not say where exactly the television ad would run or how much it spent on the ad buy.

Gov Romney is afraid to show us his taxes. 10 years at a minimum in order to be considered for the White House.

Some one tell this dude these ugly ads don't work, Obama has been hard on China much harder than Bush and the RNC who could not find a merger or company they couldn't derugulate. Again if Obama is such a sitting duck why does the RNC have to lie and distort the facts the way they do. Why do they have an entire network of Radio shows and fox news ready to push out some Yellow Journalism. its a good thing America is not falling for this but these guys have no Idea so they can't even plug the holes in their own sinking ship

Romney will stand up to China alright. Threaten to start outsourcing American jobs to Mongolia instead of China. That will stun them.

Vote for Romney, send your kids to war against Iran, Russia, North Korea, China, and every other country that Romney and the GOP would start saber-ratlling with. Dangerous idiot. Romney is the worst presidential candidate in history, and that is a FACT.

Romney is itching to get into a trade war with China. Shades of Messrs. Smoot and Hawley.

First of all , China's economy has slowed also. The world economy has changed . Mitt Romney is a dinosaur in a new world, he should stop blaming others and look at how his economic practices helped create the problem.

Why didn't the Republicans nominate a man with integrity and intelligence such as Jon Huntsman ? He understands economics , speaks Chines and tells the truth.
Yet the GOP couldn't because Huntsman was appointed ambassador to China by Obama. And huntsman who is a man of integrity and respect , showed the same to our President . Also two of Jon Huntsman's sons are in the military " Navy". Unlike Romney's five sons who thought it better to serve as campaign advisors for there Fathers 2008 and 2012 campaigns.

The only reason anybody will vote for Romney is of there distain for Obama .

That is his only real message Romney has, if you hate Obama , Vote for me , everything else I say is just nonsense 2012

I'm pretty happy the way things are going in the countdown to the American elections. we foreigners prefer Obama and support the Democrats in general. Since the Bill Clinton era they tend to build very human bonds with other nations, and normally cool our wrath towards American citizens. Surprised Europeans prefer Obama. China is led by some pretty wild boys, whereas Iran is led by religious fanatics, hope Romney knows that very well. Obama has outsmarted some pretty bloodthirsty boys in the world stage during his presidency without causing unnecessary wars.

Mitt, Mitt, Mitt – too little too late? Says the vulture-capitalist who invests his money worldwide except in the US? Long term ideas? Not from Mitt!! He rather steps on international relations without thinking first and to fostering a climate suitable for negotiations. Mitt, as President you cannot just “fire” foreign Governments – you got to get along with them for all to “profit”! For all to profit???? Ah, that idea you never heard of, right? We know!

Registered? Got your voter ID ready? Well, then let’s have some fun!!!!

1PercentRevolution is coming! Right Makes Might – Stand And Fight! Every business should be required to post at the entrance door the percentage of products coming from communist countries. The shelves should be separated and clearly marked as Democratic products and Communist products. Make it very very obvious to the consumer what their money is supporting. I believe, when given a clear choice, real Americans will chose Democracy!

President Obama has gone after Chinese tires and Chinese steel tubing, and solar panels. Romney has no clue. Obama's administration is already doing what Romney says he will do.

Obama had no choice but to suck up to China if he wanted to borrow more money from them.
But now that Romney has said something about China's wrong doing good old Obama had to do something fast to show his base that he did do something about China screwing us. Yeah Team Obama!!!
Obama would have been better off to keep his big mouth shut. Obama is nothing more than reacting to a situation instead of being proactive to gain what he really wants: To Be King of the USA. What a nerd.

From a personal perspective, what he lacks is presidential charisa, presidential character and above all a view, a vision (which can be possibly achieved) on the future. Presidential knowledge, presidential behaviour and intellect. Willard you got nothing of those. He is a dividing factor and will put republicans and dems more apart but yea, you republicans will loose the house for sure but hopefully to an extent that you will have to contribute in a positive way.
you are already running for an office (you will never hold) for so many years and it brought you nowhere and will not bring you anywhere.... and that is a very good thing for America and the world.

on a policy not, his tax plan is a mathematical impossibility and for his 12 million jobs joke... come on.. I dont want to go into his policy proposals because they are so shallow and sometimes even absurd – i even think he didnt think them through himself...

anyway it was clear from the beginning obama will be reelected and this in a landslide. obama will run over him in all the debates and so will do biden with that other clown....
it will be a landslide that will make this guy disappear for good. thank you america.

This, from a man who basically pioneered outsourcing American jobs to country like China. This, from a man who helped create the unemployment situation that is now running rampant in this country. Romney, is a big fat phony and should not be given access to the most important job in this country.

So what exactly is Romney's policy initiatives besides saying Obama sucks? Or does he plan to get elected by saying Obama sucks and use that to run the country as president with no clear policies?

Is there a foreign power Romney *isn't* lining up to alienate and tick off?
This is why his campaign continually pivots back to the economy: the guy is brain dead on any other matter.

How much standing up to China has Romney demonstrated over his "business career"? [You know, that career that he said uniquely QUALIFIED HIM to be president]? He enriched the Chinese growing middle class by shipping US jobs there.

President Obama has applied a sophisticated and nuanced approach to China. Just ask Jon Huntsman [the Republican former Ambassador] who praised Mr. Obama as a great leader.
