Vandalia, Ohio (CNN) - With a new Washington Post poll showing Mitt Romney trailing President Obama in Ohio by eight points, the GOP contender's political director told reporters on the campaign's plane bound for the battleground state that he's confident it's still well within reach.
"The public polls are what they are. I feel confident where we are," Romney political director Rich Beeson said in a briefing with reporters.

By contrast, Beeson said Obama campaign manager Jim Messina has appeared over-confident in recent days about the president's chances in the swing state.
"They're sort of spiking the ball at the 30 yard line right now," Beeson said. "At the end of the day Ohio is going to come down to the wire,' he added.
Romney holds a rally in Vandalia, Ohio with running mate Paul Ryan at 3 pm E.T.
Both Beeson and Romney's digital director Zac Moffatt insisted the campaign's ground game and on-line operations will make the race much tighter.
In an effort to explain the sagging poll numbers, Beeson also echoed a concern voiced by Romney himself on Sunday, when the Republican candidate said extensive fund-raising has interfered with the campaign's ability to schedule more rallies.
Both Romney and Beeson blamed that on President Obama who decided to forgo public financing of his campaign in order to exceed federal spending limits.
TY- Obama has been attacking Romney in every vile and dishosnest way possible since before Romney even won the nomination. They even pledged to "kill" Romney (character assasination & slander) so as to deflect from the hoirrible economy and unemployment. Romney is talking policy aqnd issues; Obama is not!
Policy and Issues? Since when has he ever discussed that? His whole time in the primaries was spent bombing the airwaves with ads and attacking his opponants. Name one policy that Romney ahs offered that is a true departure from anything offered before. There is not one shred of "policy" that Romney ahs offered that is not a tired retread of the garbage that put us in the ditch int he first place. If Romney is upset by how Obama is treating him, than he can't handle the world thats waiting for him once he crosses the border. Obama has been dsicussing policy since the day he walked into the Oval Office, but you can't do much if the opposition has pledged to make you a one-term president. Romney's "ideas" would send us back into recession we just fought our way out of. Sorry, but no sale. Romney has failed in his epic quest to buy the country for his personal use.
Everyone should be worried about voter fraud when Romney and his campaign and Rove say they're confident they can win even if Pres O is up by 8, 10, 15 points!!!! Look at the recent election in WI when 3000 votes showed up the next day out of the blue, giving the win to the WI Supreme Court Justice. Look at the spread between the polls and the "actual" vote totals. No one can forget Gore vs Bush in FLA. The Obama admin needs to see the FBI and Justice Department on its toes everywhere this election, especially in swing states.

Never thought I'd see the day Mitt Romney turned his campaign whine sessions into pure hissy fit foot stamping crying sessions. I am so looking forward to Romney's concession speech.
Ancient, we haven't heard Romney talk policy at all. Oh, his big on ideas. But the details, he'll leave for Congress to work out.
If anything, NEITHER SIDE has actually talked much about anything of substance. And that includes Mittens. He has yet to reconcile with all the different positions he has had on the same issues.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! They blame their sagging poll numbers on Obama failing to roll over and allow them to outraise him by hundreds of millions of dollars? That's what's called an admission, folks. They have now admitted that they can't beat Obama on an even playing field.
So THAT'S why Republicans are cranking up their playbook from Joseph Goebbels! Dems are in field goal range and they're feeling the pressure! It all makes sense now. Too bad once Dems get in the red zone during the debates, their up-the-gut with facts and outside hooks with conviction will give them the TD easily. I'd expect Biden to leap over the Ryan defense for the two point conversion for the win. Then we can all enjoy 4 years of progressively prosperous times (even though less than half of us will think the world will end any day). Of course, this is heavily weighing on whether we can get plenty more blue cheerleaders cuz the red ones are just sitting there and not voting on anything!
MITT ROBME DRAFT DODGING, TAX EVADING POS, couldn't have said it better if I re-wrote that myself....Though you forgot about the lamestream media and Planned Parenthood.
@pbk, that's exactly what I'm worried about. President Obama is spiking nothing, that's your job Willard. You just knew you were going to win and now people are seeing the real you and once again you start crying like a 5 yearold girl.
FYI ALL VOTERS: Don't let your vote be denied or stolen by Republicans or Democrats and if there is any attempt to do so we as Americans will stand together and protest to the bitter end. Our forefathers fought and died for our freedoms and we won't allow it to be stolen.
B-b-but Carter was outpolling Reagan a month before the election blah blah blah. (sarcasm)
Mr. Mittens needs to tone down his bellyaching. He's coming unhinged. Never heard such whining coming from a presidential wannabe before. Makes one wonder what would happen globally if he did manage to make it to the White House. Guess we'd be hearing a lot of waa, waa, waa "world leader hiding under the bed" whiny Mitt Romney stuff similar to what we are getting now.
if you have Obama folks "spiking the football" (which I seriously doubt) in Ohio then the president needs to step in and tell them to STOP IT! I think the Romney aide just made these statements to get his base riled up, so far it appears to me the president has not run the type of campaign where they are dumb enough to think the election is already over. Nice try though.
Romney so many times has FUMBLED THE BALL that is why he is lagging in the Polls and I can tell you the more he whines and blames and accuses Obama the further down in the polls he will goooooooooo.....NO issues, NO substance, NO platform, NOTHING..... but for sure and remember he doesn't care about the 47% all of us he calls freeloaders, not responsible, victims, ......we sure are victims of the Rich like Romney and his elite buddies and big corporations that get all the free loopholes and tax credits.....the reason he doesn't pay as much taxes is because they earn their money off of investments that they don't have to pay taxes on........but if you earn a salary like 99% of America does we get taxed up the waazoo and he wants to take away what little tax credits we do get......OBAMA 2012
When you take a rational analysis of the election and take into consideration white males, women, minorities of all colors, blue colar workers, etc....all the demographics...and compare this to what Obama won in 2008. Obama has no where to go but DOWN.............thud.....and let's hope that is true.
All I know is there are millions and millions of Amercians with buyers remorse on Obama. He's not getting those votes back people, no matter how you spin it.
Madonna has just offered the best incentive yet to vote for Romney. She says she'll strip on stage if Obama wins a second term. If that isn't a game changer, what is?
What do I smell from Mitts corner? Yeah that's right fear. Fear that they are losing this election. Right now, Mitts doesn't have that many options to get to 270. Wisconsin is moving more and more out of play. Michigan, the Romney Camp has already moved ads out of there. No, yes, No Repubs has won the WH without carrying Ohio. Right now, in the polls of polls, Obama has 4.4 point lead on Romney in Ohio. That's just .2 off what he won by against McCain in 2008. Ohio was still in a toss up by election day with Obama up in the RC polls of polls by 2.5 points. Even Dubya was leading at this time in Ohio too.
As of Right now, Obama according to Realclearpolitics is up 247 to 191, that still including OH, VA, NV, COL, FL, NC all in the toss up with the president leading in the polls of polls. All you Repubs can say this election smell and feels like 1980. I don't think so. Romney doesn't captivate the base like Reagan did. He also isn't the great communicator like Reagan was. Obama isn't Carter. He isn't weak in foreign policy, ask Osama Bin Laden.
Just face it, it looks very bleak for Romney right now. He will have to have an error free 41 days, not including election day, to win this. I just don't think with his camp and advisers that will be possible
The day after President Obama's re-election the recriminations will begin in the GOP/Tea Party. Rich Beeson and other senior advisors will be accused of political malpractice!
SuperD, there's only one thing wrong with your analysis: the FACTS don't support it. But that's OK for you Teatards. You thrive on fairytales. Without them, you would have no worldview at all!
I don't think the Obama/Biden campaign will take anything for granted. I volunteer and will be doing what I can through election day.
