Romney aide: Obama campaign 'spiking football' early in Ohio

Vandalia, Ohio (CNN) - With a new Washington Post poll showing Mitt Romney trailing President Obama in Ohio by eight points, the GOP contender's political director told reporters on the campaign's plane bound for the battleground state that he's confident it's still well within reach.

"The public polls are what they are. I feel confident where we are," Romney political director Rich Beeson said in a briefing with reporters.

By contrast, Beeson said Obama campaign manager Jim Messina has appeared over-confident in recent days about the president's chances in the swing state.

"They're sort of spiking the ball at the 30 yard line right now," Beeson said. "At the end of the day Ohio is going to come down to the wire,' he added.

Romney holds a rally in Vandalia, Ohio with running mate Paul Ryan at 3 pm E.T.

Both Beeson and Romney's digital director Zac Moffatt insisted the campaign's ground game and on-line operations will make the race much tighter.

In an effort to explain the sagging poll numbers, Beeson also echoed a concern voiced by Romney himself on Sunday, when the Republican candidate said extensive fund-raising has interfered with the campaign's ability to schedule more rallies.

Both Romney and Beeson blamed that on President Obama who decided to forgo public financing of his campaign in order to exceed federal spending limits.

  2. ThinkAgain: Mittens' 47% ... Veterans, grandma and the disabled are all moochers!

Democrats are not over-confident because we are well aware of the GOP's efforts to steal the election, what with all their voter ID laws (trying to correct a problem that doesn't exist); LImbaugh telling his listeners to not mention the date of the election (November 6, 2012), in the hopes that people will forget; and the millions upon millions of dollars provided by billionaires and foreign organizations to flood the airwaves with lies.

Democrats, Independents and thinking Republicans all know that the only way to keep our country moving forward is to reelect President Obama and Democratic majorities in the House and Senate. We also know that it would be absolutely dumb to elect Mittens 'n' Munster and their FAILED POLICIES.

    Obama/Biden 2012 = The only sane choice

So when the Romney campaign shows confidence that's a good thing, but when Obama's campaign shows confidence, they are "spiking the ball"???? Give me a break. Both campaigns have to give the same line of confidence.

Once again ... Obama talks the talk, but doesn't walk the walk ... Obama has taught us that 'talk' is cheap.

Does a day go by where Romney isn't blaming Obama, the media, democrats, liberals, etc? Talk about not taking responsibility.

And what's with all the football analogies? Romney knows he plays squash and cricket. Football is for ruffians and n'er do wells.

When your campaign is falling apart, what else can he say? I can only imagine the rhetoric that would be flying around in GOP world if Obama were down by eight. Face the reality, the endgame is at hand. But rest assured, no one in the Obama camp is taking anything for granted.

TY- Obama has been attacking Romney in every vile and dishosnest way possible since before Romney even won the nomination. They even pledged to "kill" Romney (character assasination & slander) so as to deflect from the hoirrible economy and unemployment. Romney is talking policy aqnd issues; Obama is not!

Awwww, feeling the cold grip of failure gripping Mittens and Eddie Munster? No amount of money can cover up the fact that Romney can't run a campaign, much less the country. Even Pawlenty has figured that out.

Republicans despise any success Obama has so much that if they can't deny it, they accuse him of gloating.

Something's been bothering me since I saw the 60 Minutes interview with Romney. Romney referenced at one point when asked about Ryan's approach and view on a particular subject that clearly goes against Romney's, his response (paraphrasing):

He's running for VP, My name is on the ballot for President, He'll see it my way.. or something to that matter. There's a bubble between them and it ain't good!

    ==========================================================================================
Yeah, right. Which is why he's dead even in the polls and Obama is not showing over 50% just about anywhere except the far left states.

BTW, Obama has only shown capable of running his mouth based on the unemployment rate and debt level. He's only made things worse over the last 4 years. Another 4 years of making it even worse will pretty much put a fork in this country.

The mormons have a saying "milk before meat". A lie is ok if it gets you errrrrr the mormon god what THEY want! What can you say he's been taught to lie his whole life and that it's ok. I think they subscribe to the Castanza School of logic – It's not a lie if you believe that it's true. Go Mitt, show us we're wrong!!!
