(CNN) - Mitt Romney cracked wise about former President Bill Clinton Tuesday, seconds after the 42nd president introduced the Republican nominee at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York City.
"Thank you, Mr. President. I appreciate the kind words and your invitation here today. If there's one thing we've learned this election season, it's that a few words from Bill Clinton can do any man a lot of good," Romney said, drawing laughs.

His quip likely refers to a couple Clinton comments during this campaign year. On CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight" in May, Clinton referred to Romney as having had a "sterling business career," a comment capitalized on by the Republican's campaign.
More often his words have been used to boost the current president. Clinton, a top surrogate for Obama, gave a widely-praised speech at the Democratic National Convention earlier this month, spending 48 minutes making the case for a second term for President Barack Obama.
In fact, more viewers of the DNC considered Clinton to be the highlight of the weeklong event, rather than Obama, according to a recent Pew Research Center poll. Some political analysts credited the president's mild post-convention bounce in the polls to Clinton's rousing speech.
Romney, however, poked fun at the Clinton factor while kicking off his foreign policy speech Tuesday.
"After that introduction, I guess all I have to do is wait a day or two for the bounce," Romney said, drawing laughs.
I'm guess Clinton is voting for Romney. He only gave the speech at the DNC for Hilary and the party. He's made it quite clear he is not an Obama fan.
Romney had to rehearse those lines for several days because he just couldn't say it with any feeling and even smile when he heard himself say those lines. Mitt's true feeling were exposed when he spoke of those '47 per cent'that he hates.
You make it sound like he insulted the former president, when actually he flattered him.
Mr. 1% even has his running mate worried. And his mate wants to join the 1% if he could.
Hey Dems, Romney's jokes were funny, and aimed more at himself than Clinton. I can respect him for that.
Still not voting for him though.
Very fun! I don't know how many apprentices that Bill Clinton has had, but I guess that Newt Gingrich has had one.
Yeah that joke was about as funny as when Romney told the story about strapping his dog to the roof of his car while he drove on the highway for hours on end and didn't let the dog out for bathroom breaks. Or when Romney bet a fellow candidate $10,000 like he betting to buy him a can of Coke. He's such an average Joe like the rest of us.
I am amazed that CNN believes that one can tell a joke about a "joke" !!! Here's another one about the "joke" and Mrs Joke: They say that the Apple doesn't fall too far from the tree !! How do we suppose that Chelsea Joke got her job working for that executive at NBC ???????
Gotta give credit, where credit is due... haha well said Mitt!
How insulting. Romney needs to make sure he doesn't cross the line, cause if he does happen to win the election (though that is an unlikely story) he will get less advice from President Clinton simply because of this.
