Romney makes Clinton joke–in front of Clinton

(CNN) - Mitt Romney cracked wise about former President Bill Clinton Tuesday, seconds after the 42nd president introduced the Republican nominee at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York City.

"Thank you, Mr. President. I appreciate the kind words and your invitation here today. If there's one thing we've learned this election season, it's that a few words from Bill Clinton can do any man a lot of good," Romney said, drawing laughs.

His quip likely refers to a couple Clinton comments during this campaign year. On CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight" in May, Clinton referred to Romney as having had a "sterling business career," a comment capitalized on by the Republican's campaign.

More often his words have been used to boost the current president. Clinton, a top surrogate for Obama, gave a widely-praised speech at the Democratic National Convention earlier this month, spending 48 minutes making the case for a second term for President Barack Obama.

In fact, more viewers of the DNC considered Clinton to be the highlight of the weeklong event, rather than Obama, according to a recent Pew Research Center poll. Some political analysts credited the president's mild post-convention bounce in the polls to Clinton's rousing speech.

Romney, however, poked fun at the Clinton factor while kicking off his foreign policy speech Tuesday.

"After that introduction, I guess all I have to do is wait a day or two for the bounce," Romney said, drawing laughs.

Is that a teleprompter screen near Romney?

And I thought Romney never used a teleprompter.

Piers Morgan? Really? That's the "likely origin" even when he follows it up by waiting for the bounce? I think the likely origin of the quip was the Democratic National Convention and Bill Clinton's speech there which gave Obama a HUGE bounce. I mean, come on...do some better reporting than that!

Remember when we had a surplus? Yeah, that's gone. You can thank Republican policies and spending like drunken sailors for that.

    Dominican mama 4 Obama
    I...And speaking of Clinton...WHERE'S GEORGE W Mittens?
Why isn't he out there stumping with you?
Don't you want the "one or two point bounce" in the polls that you'd be sure to get from campaigning and being seen around the country with W?!

Unlike Obama, Mitt Romney stands up well on his own accomplishments.

Way to make sure that you never get another good mark from the man. Romney's been spending so much time with his dancing horse, that he's forgotten all about gift horses.

Romney has no sense of humor, that's too difficult for him. He has no quick wit.
Time for Romney to pack his bags, the debates will be too painful to handle...

What's that evil thing Rob-money is standing behind? A TELEPROMPTER! That must mean that Rob-money is merely a stooge who doesn't know anything and is being manipulated by the people that control what's on the screen. After all, that's what the wing nuts say about the President when he (and every other public speaker in the world) uses a teleprompter.

    @Four and the door,
Everyday you come on the ticker talking smack about Pres. Obama. Well guess what, you gonna have 4 more years to rant and tell lies just like you always do. I guess Fox news blog is to boring for you...

But this is where people like you are. Most of my friends and coworkers share my perspective. I like coming here to find people who still cling to the Hope and Change promises of Obama.

Unfortunately, this is probably true. There are some people in this country, who feel the two of THEM are representative of our country, but thank God, not everyone thinks that way.

Romney is not a funny guy. Maybe he can make us all laugh if next time he roll the window down on his plane to let all the polluted air from his mouth out.

Its sad to see A President who needs a big brother like the UN to go after the terrorist for the attacks on the Embassies. He should grow some balls and be a man. His wife would be a better President.

Romney is "obama lite." But "lite" is much better than full blown "obama." Romney will cause much less damage in his 4 years than if obama is given another 4. Hopefully by then the country will wise up and we will elect someone that will actually fix what has been broken over the past couple of decades.

I think Romney is a real dud not smart enough to grasp president Clinton's pun in his remarks of Romney. Sterling business record means he became wealthy doing business, but it does not mean that the business was done in a fair manner. In Romney's case it is laying off US employees and sending jobs to China to make more profits.
