Romney, Ryan receive intel briefings

(CNN) – Mitt Romney received his second intelligence briefing Thursday at an office building in Herndon, Virginia, an outer suburb of Washington.

Romney's first briefing came September 17 at an FBI building in Los Angeles, less than one week after criticizing President Barack Obama over the attacks on U.S. diplomatic posts in Egypt and Libya.

Romney's team did not say who in the national intelligence community provided the briefing.

The briefings are a customary measure in the latter stages of a general election campaign for presidential challengers, regardless of which party is in power.

Michael Steel, a spokesman for GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan, confirmed Thursday that Ryan had also received an intelligence briefing, first reported by ABC News, though declined to provide further details.

CNN's Shawna Shepherd, Rachel Streitfeld and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

They do need to get used to it. They will be getting these briefings for the next 8 years.

The briefers should feed them some false statements, then sit back and wait to see how long it takes for those false statements to be leaked to the "LSM".

If the meetings have anything to do with any sort of intelligence, they are sure to be very brief.

New intelligence indicates that poll numbers for Romney and Ryan are bad. Real bad.

I'm sure he still prefers to get his intel briefings from Sarah (Snow Snookie) Palin, but that's another matter. He knows he has to at least go through the motions with the intelligence community.

Whose bright idea was to get R&R intel briefings in the first place.

Romney is going to need to take a break from campaigning again. He's looking tired ... and sounding more confused than ever. Good news is, Romney only has 40 or so days left and he can go home to permanently play with his car elevators and listen to the ocean. Whoever thought this man has what it takes to become President of the United States has noodles for brains. It's not even funny to watch him anymore ... just embarrassing for him, and for the Republican party.

If there is evidence of another attack on US soil – i hope they don't ignore it like their buddy Bush did on 2001!

Since these two have no shame and will use anything to try to score political points, I'd look for them to leak something out from these briefings in an attempt to hurt Obama.

Good. Maybe now they'll stop running their pieholes in such an irresponsible and un-American manner.
Or maybe a clearer understanding of the gravity of the Middle-East situation will still not deter them from trying to belittle their Commander-in-Chief vis-a-vis our foreign policy stance.

IMHO they could've saved themselves the agony of trying to teach these two anything and gone to lunch instead.
    Obama 2012.

Oh, that's wonderful. I understand this is just the way it works for each and every nominee. It still makes me uncomfortable that a man who has no idea how to NOT say something stupid will be privy to anything top secret. On another note: I would still like to see those top secret tax returns.

It occurs to me that the election is on Nov 6th and whoever wins is sworn in around Jan 20th – some 2+ months later – why is it "customary" to brief a candidate with possible highly classified intelligence (if there is such a thing lol). There's plenty of time AFTER the election to brief the new prez to be. Now we have loose cannon Mitt who blabs anything off the top of his head thinking he'll get elected and Ryan who truly believes he is "the chosen one" to be the savior of the Repubs, the US, the world – so much for National Security eh?

I dont really like obama, but cant really understand why anyone who is not very rich, vote for romney, are you really racist enough that you vote for a man like miit? grow up, in four years he'll be gone, and then you can sleep better. blackman for pres. wasn'nt my first choice, but all in all, he got some things done, despite gop best effort, their extreme measures that they are going to, seemingly have no boundries, and we all know how kids act with no boundries, yeah, just like they are now
