Clinton to campaign with Obama

(CNN) – Former President Bill Clinton will campaign with President Barack Obama in Los Angeles a week from Sunday, an Obama campaign aide told CNN on Thursday.

The campaign is using the joint appearance to raise money.

"If there's one person who knows how hard we need to fight in these final weeks, it's President Clinton. I'm grateful he'll be joining me on the trail. You should be there, too," Obama said in an email to supporters.

The same email offered supporters a chance to attend the event if they donate at least $5 to the campaign.

The California fund-raiser will come a few days after Clinton hits the trail for the current president in New Hampshire on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Obama, however, is not scheduled to be at the Granite State event, as it falls on the same day as the first presidential debate.

Clinton has been one of the president's biggest surrogates this cycle. The 42nd president gave a lengthy, high-profile speech for Obama at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina earlier this month. He also campaigned for Obama the following week in Florida, a crucial battleground state.

In an "Access Hollywood" interview last week, first lady Michelle Obama referred to the two presidents' hug on the DNC stage as a "public display of (their) 'bromance'," a marked difference from 2008, when Obama fiercely competed against Clinton's wife, Hillary, for the Democratic nomination.

The former president has also been highly critical of Mitt Romney's so-called 47% comments, in which the Republican nominee argued in a secretly recorded video that nearly half of Americans are dependent on the government because they don't pay federal income taxes.

Clinton, however, said Romney's comments largely missed the point and rejected "more than three decades of bipartisan policy to support work and family."

"It's not a bunch of freeloaders," Clinton told CNN's Piers Morgan on Tuesday. "There are only about a little less than four percent of the total population who don't pay federal income tax and don't work and may not be looking for work."

Clinton last appeared with Obama on Tuesday when he introduced the incumbent president at the Clinton Global Initiative. The annual event, established in 2005 by former President Bill Clinton, features discussions and programs on how to spur development in emerging economies.
The former president also introduced Romney at the event earlier in the day.

Clinton is expected to do more events between now and Election Day on behalf of Obama's campaign, although aides are staying mum about the details.

I don't think Clinton likes the President or believes him to be qualified for being the President, but he certainly doesn't want a Republican challenger to win. I think Clinton probably made it clear to the President that his active and substantive support was contingent on the President's active and substantive support for Hillary Clinton's 2016 nomination and election to the office.

Even though in 2008, there was a bitter primary between Obama and the Clintons, it now seems there is genuine affection and/or friendship between these two men – as evidenced by that hug at the DNC. You cannot fake that feeling. I am glad Bubba is on our side!!!!

Let's not be complacent people! The President may be leading in some polls, but this is going to be a extremely close race. VOTE 2012!!!!!

    OBAMA/BIDEN/FIRST LADY MICHELLE!!!!!

Conrad, I think you're spot on. I think Clinton knows Obama is a fool and having him screw up the economy for another 4 years will make Hillary look like the Democrats Messiah.

I do agree with the displeasure of the direction thic country is in. Which is why I am voting for every democrat on the ticket.... At least they are trying to do something, and they understand how you make this country succeed: Feed the Middle Class, and the rest will benefit. The 1% paying 2-3% more in taxes will net 3-5% more once the middle class is buying things other than essentials again. The Poor will be doing better because the billions on middle-class americans will donate to them more than the 1% can, when they can affford to do so.

Feed the middle class, regardless if they are blue collar manfacturers or white collar office workers. Think about the human body when freezing... while the appendages are getting colder, the core/torso actually gets warmer. Take care of the core, and the core will not need as much from the extremes so they will end up supporting them.

Vote Democrat – 2012 ( for people that make Less Than 50K per yr.)

I am done with this president. Obama made sure the violent protesters in the middle east got their wish….the film maker has been arrested. Expect more violent protests any time the Muslims are mad at us, because they will believe their violence and destruction gets results in the US! Thank you, President Obama. Thank you for putting the security of the United States, businesses abroad, citizens, and embassies at risk for further attack. This back handed action against freedom of speech should terrify anyone who realizes there will be more retiring SC justices in the next 4 years.

In my opinion, Bill is doing this for the party. Every time you see him with Obama he has a nauseous look on his face. It must be killing him to pretend to support this farce of a presidency just so the Democratic Party can carry on. I don't believe Obama has any intention of following the party agenda at all. He's a corrupt liar and the Clinton's know it.

Joi Gibson" I second what you said. Let us not get complacent just because the polls show Obama is leading, Unless, people vote like they talk, it does not matter.

    Where's Dubya????

People make sure you are registered to vote. A firm in Florida has been caught trying to suppress monorities and anyone registered as a democrat. They were hired by the GOP and Willard. They were also paid more than a $1,000,0000.

    OBAMA 2012!

A right wingnut must not know we are no longer in Bush's Iraq War, the troops are home, and our troops in Afghanistan will be coming home. (I hope before 2014) If the crazy right wingnuts would allow the vote on the veteran's jobs bill (It is held up a a republican anonymously) we could actually help put our troops back to work. Republicans love war, but hate our troops.
