Adelsons push back on 'media double standard'

(CNN) – Dr. Miriam Adelson, wife of Las Vegas casino magnate and billionaire Sheldon Adelson, is pushing back on what she calls "relentless" attacks from Democrats and Obama re-election campaign on her and her family, underscoring what she views as a bias in the media against conservatives.

Dr. Adelson penned an op-ed posted to the conservative-leaning Daily Caller's website Thursday pointing to her and her husband's political affiliations as reason for the attacks.

Romney debate challenge: High stakes, lowered expectations

Washington (CNN) – He's prepped. His campaign's armed with spin. All that's left for Mitt Romney to do is to step into the proverbial ring and verbally duke it out with someone his own campaign called a "universally acclaimed public speaker."

Romney enters Wednesday's debate in Denver down in swing state polls and trying to recover from his politically damaging comments about nearly half the nation being shoo-ins for President Barack Obama.

Obama bans wind-farm purchases by Chinese company

New York (CNNMoney) - President Obama vetoed the acquisition of four wind-farm companies in the U.S. by a Chinese-owned firm on Friday, citing national security concerns.

The companies' projects are all located near a U.S. military site in Oregon, the Naval Weapons Systems Training Facility Boardman, the Treasury Department said in a statement.

Akin consultant compares him to cult leader

(CNN) - A consultant for Rep. Todd Akin likened the Senate candidate to David Koresh on Friday, saying Akin's ability to withstand GOP pressure to withdraw from the Missouri race was like the cult leader's resistance during the deadly 1993 standoff with federal authorities.

Consultant Kellyanne Conway said she has expressed her opinion to Akin "for a while now," adding Akin was successfully able to sustain the aftermath of his controversial rape comments last month.

Polls: New numbers in New Hampshire and Virginia

(CNN) – New polls in Virginia and New Hampshire indicate close contests in those two swing states in the race for the White House.

According to an American Research Group survey released Friday in Virginia, 49% of likely voters support President Barack Obama, with 47% backing Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

Romney anticipates winning a state that would ‘shock people’

Philadelphia (CNN) - Mitt Romney on Friday opened a Philadelphia fund-raiser by saying a Romney win in the battleground state of Pennsylvania would amount to a surprising defeat.

"You know we really would shock people if early in the evening of Nov. 6 it looked like Pennsylvania was going to come our way and actually did come our way,” Romney said at the Union League Club. “That could happen. That could happen."

(CNN) - The Obama and Romney campaigns are seeking to manage - and in some cases lower - expectations for their candidate's performance in the first presidential debate.

CNN obtained a memo on Thursday circulated by Beth Myers, an adviser to Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, that outlines several reasons why President Barack Obama may win the first of three scheduled encounters next Wednesday in Denver.

(CNN) - With the release of a new television ad Friday, Republican Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts is not letting up in reminding voters of a controversy involving Elizabeth Warren's claim to Native American heritage.

The new ad, "Got Caught," features interviews with people criticizing the Democratic Senate candidate for listing herself in faculty directories as having Native American heritage while teaching at Harvard Law School.

(CNN) – A Utah woman unwittingly started a grassroots campaign when an e-mail she sent to her five children and a handful of friends urging a day of prayer and fasting for Mitt Romney started making the Mormon rounds.

Mona Williams, a Price, Utah, member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, wrote last Sunday evening to tell people closest to her how frustrated she is with the state of the country.

Romney's profit 'harvest' in latest video from Mother Jones

(CNN) – The left-leaning publication that posted the secretly-recorded videos of Mitt Romney that included his controversial "47%" comments is online with a new, older video where the GOP candidate describes a mission to "harvest" small businesses while at Bain Capital, the private equity firm he founded.

Mother Jones posted video taken in 1985 of Romney describing how the his firm was formed and the company's goal to buy stakes in start-up businesses, manage them for between five and eight years and then "harvest them at a significant profit."
