Romney debate challenge: High stakes, lowered expectations

Washington (CNN) – He's prepped. His campaign's armed with spin. All that's left for Mitt Romney to do is to step into the proverbial ring and verbally duke it out with someone his own campaign called a "universally acclaimed public speaker."

Romney enters Wednesday's debate in Denver down in swing state polls and trying to recover from his politically damaging comments about nearly half the nation being shoo-ins for President Barack Obama.

Right now, Mittens has a lower bar in the debates than Sarah Palin had. If Mittens does not drool on himself, the right wingnuts will declare victory.

In debates, generally the smartest, most well-informed people participate. Those are requirements for a good debate performance.

Clearly, Obama has those qualities; mitts does not. Even his own people can see that.

Sorry to disillusion, CNN. America has great expectations for Mitt Romney. It's not very often we get a candidate that has spent the past year debating himself and all his various flip/flops ... two ... three ... sometimes four times daily. It'll be entertaining to watch him magically wave his Etch a Sketch spin aside and "git 'er done" for all to see.

Mittens has spent the past year proving that his best shot at the presidency is to simply STFU and people think he can win the debates? He's armed with a wet noodle for the knife fight.

Let Pres.Obama ask about the company just found guilty of voters fraud in Florida,a one his campaign just paid over $80,000 for voters intel and how the republicans have over 3 million dollars in 5 states with this company, can you say not only voter supression but fraud as well Romney..How this company and owner were guilty in shredding ballots for Bush in two seperate presidencial elections ,now at it again, when will they learn...Nathan Sprous of Strategic Allied Consulting of Arizona. got the nod to start changing voters apps from Democrate to Republican and got caught in Florida in 3 different cities it was said today..And republicans are trying to change the electoral college also.Republican led states want vote splitting but only two now are allowed Nebraska,Maine and if approved it'll take more states to win with a 270 of 536 majority to win the presidency.Republicans can't win on straight elections, fraud is the only answer, plain and simple. If your state has a republican governor watch out they'll be trying to change it there,I assure you,its their ultimite plan for Romney to win!!

  6. ThinkAgain: Hey networks, fact-check the debates in real-time and put it in the crawl!

In this day and age of the Internet, it should be a piece of cake for the networks to fact check what the candidates say in real time. We've heard a lot from both of them, so much of the fact checking can be done ahead of time; the rest can be easily done in real time by a small group of folks on computers.

Just put the results of each statement in the crawl. Here, I'll make a template for you (just fill in the "X"):

Gov. Romney's claim of "X" is false; President Obama's claim of "X" is true.

Mittens spent plenty of time debating in the GOP primaries. True, he was debating a bunch of loonies, but he still had to utter the GOP talking points with a straight face, so that must count for something, right?

Obama will be burdened with the baggage of a failed Administration going into these debates. His economic policies have been a bust for 3 1/2 years and he's got no plans to change anything. But Mitt Romney has a very new clear direction based not only on years of successful experience but the very power of fundamental economics. This will stand up very well when contrasted with Obama's finger pointing and piles of excuses. I do look forward to the debates and watching Mitt Romney standing up and holding Obama accountable for his purely political agenda and lack of results for the American people.

Rasmussen has Romney up 51% to 45% over the uhbama on who likely voters trust in handling the economy.

Not even Mitt Romney believes half of what you give him credit for.
