Ryan notes campaign ‘missteps,’ claims media bias

(CNN) - GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan acknowledged the Republican campaign's "missteps" on Sunday, calling Mitt Romney’s now-notorious “47%” comments “inarticulate,” while still defending the crux of his running mate’s argument.

Ryan also took the media to task for what he called bias against conservatives.

Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” Ryan said his running mate’s controversial comments were "an inarticulate way to describe what we’re trying to do to create prosperity and upward mobility, and reduce dependency by getting people off welfare, back to work.”

“We've had some missteps," said Ryan, also noting many conservatives' concerns that the campaign is failing to project a clear message to voters. "But at the end of the day, the choice is really clear, and we're giving people a very clear choice."

Romney made the candid "47%" remarks to a group of wealthy donors at a private fund-raiser caught on a secretly recorded video in May. The video was posted online by a left-leaning news organization earlier in September, sparking a firestorm of criticism from both sides of the aisle. Among other hotly contested remarks, the Republican nominee said nearly half of Americans will automatically vote for the president because they are dependent on government and consider themselves “victims.”

Ryan noted that Romney had conceded the lack of "eloquence" in his choice of words, though Ryan also picked up on the argument, blaming Obama for a sluggish economy and what the GOP campaign bills as policies that foster dependency on government.

Ryan also accused the media of having a liberal disposition.

“I think it kind of goes without saying that there's definitely a media bias. We've - look, I'm a conservative person, I'm used to media bias. We expected media bias going into this,” said Ryan.

Asked to cite a specific example of media bias, Ryan demurred, instead asserting that most people who work in the media have liberal political affiliations and, therefore, would want a president who is a Democrat to win.

“I'm not going to go into a tit-for-tat or litigate this thing,” said Ryan. “But as a conservative, I've long believed and long felt that there is inherent media bias. And I think anybody with objectivity would believe that that's the case.”

Although I disagree with him, it's blatantly and disgustingly obvious that there is an inherent liberal bias in the media. It's DISGUSTING how liberally biased the news media is and it's saddening how they manipulate people with their bias.

What a joke! There is no more of a media bias than FOX news around. The first rule of propoganda is to call all other sources propoganda. Spin the compass 180 and point the finger at those who point it at you. Sounds like Rove is in this full tilt now. When you have to make excuses for direct quotes, you're in trouble. Lyin Ryan is not helping at all.

It's hard to get the truth out when the main stream media firmly and corruptly supports Obama.

Yes, the main stream media is biased. Especially when they ask a candidate a question and they don't give an answer and try and change the subject.!

On top of everything else, Republicans have a persecution complex. Media bias, how lame is that? If you had something intelligent to say, something positive, something uplifting, something truthful... the media would love you.

I love it when supposed conservatists whine about the media. Why don't they quit acting like babies and take responsibility for running a lousy campaign? Wasn't it Romney that said that people should take responsibility? It is time for the Romney and Ryan to man up!

Don't lie Ryan than....I can't trust a word that comes out of your mouth. When you lie you have to go back in the course of events and recall what you said. If you speak the truth you know where you are at and so do we. You caused the media thing yourself!!!!!!!!

Bias my foot. Fox is so right leaning it should be renamed as the news arm of the Republican Party.

Most other media outlets are owned by Murdoc and other right-wingers who do nothing to promote an honest discourse on the issues.

Romney's problems are due to a fatal flaw with the candidate himself – who flip-flops, panders and lies at every opportunity.

He has no connections with or understanding of the working class so it is no wonder even a big proportion of those folks aren't supporting him this year.

When the closest he gets to regular people is summed up in ... "My dancing horse stepped over the body of one of the workers installing a 2nd car elevator at one of my vacation homes...' – he doesn't have a chance in heII of getting their votes in large enough numbers to defeat Obama.

    Ryan has lied a lot.

Is it "media bias" to point that out?

People in the media tend to be educated and well-read. They are likely to have modern beliefs, so yes, they have a bit of a liberal bias. That said, they work hard to present both sides of hte argument and to differentiate editorial content (opinions) from reporting on facts and events. The conversvative media (and by this I mean Fox News) is 100% biased in their content while claiming to be "fair and balanced" and whining about how the "mainstream" media is biased.

First, it is interesting that Ryan is making the media bias complaint right on Fox, which is biased and heavily leans toward the right. As I prepare to go to my son's wedding next week in China, i can only imagine his reaction that I am embracing a non-hunting Chinese woman into my family and who is not a Christian.

The comment already shows your heart and mind . You have no clue of people struggling and giving 1 % more money and spend in military might . You should now realize that USA is not liked around globe including Europe , even though they are using your money . The spending in military is needed and should spend for the infrastructure and people of this country . You will reduce terrorism by reducing military spending and interfering other people's affairs .

How dare reporters report and use the candidates own recorded words of proof that the candidate said what they said! Gimme a break Ryan. Blame the media may make you feel better but it's not going to change a single vote.

Considering that Univision employ's the only journalists willing to ask President Obama a tough question i'd say media bias is alive and well in American and solidly in the administrations corner.

To a Repub "media bias" is when the media plays clips of Repubs contradicting themselves or outright lying.

What a bunch of whiny, irresponsible, unaccountable jerks!

"And I think anybody with objectivity would believe that that's the case."

That is NOT an objective statement Mr. Ryan. You are concluding before talking to others with a different view point, that they have such a view point, because they are not objective. Gosh, it must hurt to live in your head!

The mear use of the word "cries" in your internet headline "Ryan....cries media bias" proves you are bias. That headlinge sould have been written as news not editoralised!!! Where is your article on the obama possible cover up of the Libyian terror attack on our embassy ? As former President Regan would say..........."there you go again".

Don't be an idiot and media will not be biased. This is hysterically ridiculous every single time when yet another right wingers screws up he/she loudly complains about media bias. No, really they are always right, all their pronouncements are God-given truth, but that pesky media, just so freaking biased.... Stupid people never admit that they are stupid....
