How #ladyparts went viral

(CNN) - It started as an ecard, became a post on a Obama campaign blog, and eventually became fodder for conservative websites.

It wasn't the average get-out-the-vote banner.

Tune to CNN for Wednesday's presidential debate coverage starting at 7 p.m. ET on CNN TV, CNN.com and via CNN's apps for iPhone, iPad and Android. Web users can become video editors with a new clip-and-share feature that allows them to share favorite debate moments on Facebook and Twitter.

"Vote like your lady parts depend on it," the meme read.

The post appears to have been posted first to the blogging site Tumblr by someone known on the site as Vennstiel on September 25.

When posting it last Tuesday, that user added, "Because they kinda do."

Someone with the Obama campaign "reblogged" it on their official campaign Tumblr this week, adding the commentary, "Really, though," plus a link to the women's health page on Obama's campaign website.

The post has since been removed from the Obama campaign Tumblr, but the page was first saved by web sites that "cache" or save the impressions from web sites over time. Google's caching service provided a snapshot of the page showing it online just before 4 p.m. ET on Monday afternoon.

A spokesman with the Obama campaign did not return a request from CNN for comment on the post.

It was done in the style of the ecards on the website Someecards, whose website shows it was posted there by a user of the site known as WiscoWoman on May 27.

The Obama campaign post brought the meme to prominence online. On Tuesday afternoon, the original Tumblr post had over 8,700 "notes" which includes other users posting the graphic to their Tumblr pages.

Conservative websites, including The Drudge Report and The Weekly Standard noted the post, and it drew a flurry of comments on Twitter.

Obama's campaign website lists Tumblr alongside other popular social networking websites, including Twitter and Facebook, where supporters can interact with the campaign online.

A separate Tuesday afternoon post mentioned women in a different context, noting the platform differences between Obama and Romney on Planned Parenthood and reproductive health care.

Tumblr says it has 75.8 million blogs and that nearly 63 million posts are added daily.

As the Tumblr user who posted the original meme noted on a separate Tuesday afternoon post, "It's got a life of its own now."

    I like it! I think it makes a good point. They should embrace it, not run from it. Turn it around on the Republicans.

    @Jose – "Actually most Dems are pro-abortion, not pro-choice."
    _____________________________________________
    I'm sorry Jose, but there is no woman that is PRO-abortion. Making the choice to abort a baby has to be one of the hardest decisions anyone can make and no woman would take it lightly. There are many reasons why woman make the choice for abortion and you and others like you need to get off your high horse and quit judging. As I'm assuming you're a Republican then do what they preach and worry about your own personal responsibility and not that of others!

    @mememememememe Actually most Dems are pro-abortion, not pro-choice.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    I don't know a SINGLE Dem who DEMANDS that EVERY woman who gets pregnant be forced to have an abortion, and neither do you. Your statement is without merit at best, not to mention completely ignorant but thanks for bringing to the forefront once again just how clueless the tighty righties are.

    @ghostriter "Denver Dave, if this was Romney, he would have kept it on his site, defended the position and made it part of the campaign"

    And you know this how, we would all love to know.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Because history has shown that if he and his handlers think they can "stick it to the dems" he'll not only double down, he'll triple and quadruple down! But you knew that. Playing obtuse doesn't make you look clever; it just makes you look ill-informed.

    @Cara – "The idea that Romney, a moderate who used to be pro-choice, is a fanatic out to end reproductive rights is absurd."
    ________________________________
    Thank you Cara for confirming what most of us know about Romney – he is a total fake and flip-flopper. We don't know which Romney will emerge if he becomes President because he has been on all sides of every issue. He will go with those that have given him the most money to buy the office and guess what, that would be the right-wing conservatives who do, in fact, want to control a woman's reproductive rights. You best take a closer look at your candidate!

    Critical Thinking

    Lady Parts? So now women are thinking with their Lady Parts after all the years that men were critisized for thinking with their man parts?

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Ladyparts can potentially be affected long after being exposed to manparts.

    I am voting for my ladyparts to be given my own choice-The Republicans have indeed decided to war against women-they want us -AT HOME-in a Burka-no rights, no job, no birth control and no right to contol our destiny-they and their 1000 laws against our ladyparts since 2010 say so. I will NOT be voting for the American taliban-AS IF I would vote for Romney-the etch a sketch man -who changes his mind on every position monthly, weekly, and recently hourly.

    Dave, quite worrying so much about my uterus and get a life. If men got pregnant we would have drive through abortion clinics with big screen tv's and beer while you wait. Guns are ok. War is ok. But legally sanctioned abortion is all the sudden morally outrageous..

    that's it...? Really? Really REALLY? CNN has the gall to waste my time w/tripe like this and call it politics? Wow.

    Meanwhile their so-called senior political analyst, who is an investor in Baine capital and clearly a republican stooge is posting comments to set the bar for Romney so low as to require a shovel to find it, and implying at the same time that Obama should go for a "KO". So, if Romney doesn't come across as a total fool and a stumblebum that means they can claim he "won" the debate.

    You watch. RMoney will alternate between smoke and mirrors – hot air and no specifics, just flip-flopping vaporware – and false accusations and attacks. He'll try and get us to believe that some of his best friends are black, jewish, poor, women with an LGBT lifestyle. He'll raise the spectre of the economy and promise that his budget (and Lyan Ryan's) will fix it, but he won't talk about the $1300 Billion in completely discretionary cuts to any programs he chooses. Even though the debate is about domestic policy he'll find a way to drag Syria into it. He'll do his best to draw attention to his place of birth.

    Just you wait...RMoney will be doing the liar's dance soon. Pay attention to what he's sayin', and especially to what he avoids saying.

    Next it will be CNN reporting on somebody's Tweet or Tumblr or FB or god-knows-what-but-it's-unrelated-to-the-campaign-even-though-it-may-get-clicks...(whew)...because someone will send a viral video of Willard Mitt RMoney in his sacred shorts.

    I agree with you on the first statement, but it is about all s*x and that is it. This is the same reason many of these same people oppose gay marriage and feel the need to weigh in on contraception. These folks are certain that the reason they aren’t ‘getting any’ is because someone else is. That is the truth, even if they cannot bring themselves to admit it.

    If Romney is being accused of waging a war on women because he does not support abortion, then that same argument can be made about Obama waging a war on defenseless unborn children by supporting abortion. Period, end of story!!!! NO debate on this point will prevail. The truth is the TRUTH! ...Women's rights!?!?!? What about the rights of the defenseless unborn children that their own mothers are murdering? If women are fighting for the right to murder their own children, thats the same as any other person fighting for their "right" to murder anyone they choose! Sick and Wrong!

    "You guys have no clue. Romneycare covers abortions, Obamacare does not. please get informed"

    1981 Supreme Judicial Court ruling in MA mandates that abortion be covered by publicly subsidized health plans.

    1976 Hyde Amendment prohibits that federal funds be used to subsidize abortions.

    These two facts pretty much ruin any attempt to imply that Mittens has shown himself more "sensitive" to women's issues via Romneycare than Obama has via the ACA. Now, who needed a clue?

    Its not just about the right to choose, the Republicans are trying to go after birth control also. My daughter was acosted by a woman at a pharmacy when picking up her prescription. THe woman does it all the time according to the pharmacist, and she doesn't know if there are medical reasons, if the women she are acostin are married or anything else, just believes they the only reason for s*x is to procreate. I've heard this way to many times from Republicans. Insane!

    I think they should have left it up, if the Republicans want a say about our 'ladyparts' we should take that into account when voting.

    If you are pregnant & it is determined that the baby is clinically dead, i.e. no heartbeat and it is arrange to have the dead fetus removed that is considered abortion, as it is the removal of a fetus. If some Republicans had their way if a woman showed up in an ambulance in distress and would die if they didn't remove the fetus, the woman would be left to die. This has actually happened in the U.S.

    Really? Matt Drudge, perennial conservative agitator jackhole exrtaordinnaire, digs up a FIVE YEAR OLD 2007 PUBLIC speech covering issues that have been discussed 9 ways to Sunday and pretends that it's "breaking news" and we're all supposed to just play along instead of recognizing it as the red meat Teatroll race-baiting that it is? Grow up. Drudge would have been better off not announcing just how desperate the GOP/Teatrolls are feeling right now.

    The best way to prevent abortion is birth control. We have one political party that has many members passionately fighting to prevent access to birth control. Access to birthcontrol would also be a large part of the 'ladyparts' conversation. The reason that many insurance companies HAPPILY provide access for free is because it costs less money, not just for unwanted pregnancies, but also for a miriad of other womens health issues.

    The pharmicist should have the accoster tresspassed. That s/he hasn't done something implies that s/he is in agreement with the accoster. If the pharmacy is part of a corporate chain, I'd notify HQ that the pharmicist advocates harrassment of customers. If the pharmacy is independent, the pharmicist needs to lose customers and your daughter can start the mass exodus by "harrassing" other customers about the abuse in the store, then go elsewhere for her BC needs.

    FLIndependent – if Romney is a flake and flip-flopper, what do u call Obama on Gitmo, gay-marriage, immigration, Warren act, etc? Obama said in 2008 that marriage s/b bet. man/woman, now it is election time, not so much; immigration, he cannot do anything about it even when he had controlled of Congress for the 1st 2yrs, now executve order comes down as election is near, what about subverting the Warren act signed into law that defense contrators must give 60 day notice of pending layoffs? With election near Obama told Lockheed Martin not to lay off anyone until after the elections. Gitmo close no! What about the lies told to us about the terrorist attack in Libya. The Ambassador requested more security and Obama Admin said NO.
    Any of that bothers u about this President? NO?
    Solyndra? Gas prices doubled, savings worth less, "shovel ready wasn't as shovel ready as we thought ha-ha" says Obama, food prices gone up, income gone down – none of that bothers u? Obama's many changes is not flipflopping? Many of Obama's decision that shows him to be the biggest flake is not an issue. None of his incompetence bothers u. You r a hypocrite and a sheep!
