Obama raises $181 million in September, campaign says

(CNN) - President Barack Obama's campaign raised $181 million in September, out-raising by far its previous monthly record, the campaign said in online posts Saturday.

CNN reported earlier this week that a Democratic source with knowledge of the fundraising numbers expected the haul to top $150 million. Obama’s previous monthly record was $114 million, reached in August. Republican challenger Mitt Romney raised $112 million that month.

The Obama campaign said in Saturday morning posts to Twitter that the contributions came from 1.8 million individual donors, including 567,000 from donors who had not previously contributed. The campaign said a total of 3.9 million people have donated to the campaign this year.

The average donation was $53, the campaign said, and 98% of donations were under $250.

The Democratic National Convention, which included a well-received speech by President Bill Clinton, occurred in September. The first presidential debate, which was widely seen as a win for Romney, came after the September books were closed.

Obama’s campaign hasn’t said how much cash it has on hand, an important figure as the campaigns enter the final month before the election and a costly advertising battle in eight swing states.

Both the Obama and Romney camps are fundraising with their party committees. Romney has not yet disclosed his September fundraising numbers.

  1. Fact

This money came from some of the 53% and the 47% who are donating. Hardworking Americans who believe the American dream of every person having a fair shot at success if they are willing to work for it.

10 million Americans donate $100 million to our president and Adelson, himself, donates the same amount of Chinese communist money to Mittens.

Mittens was a failure as a governor of MA. The right wingnuts think that he will be a success at a much higher playing field? The US always bailed Mitttens out when he failed, but Mittens will only have China to bail him out of his presidency after his $5 trillion in tax cuts and $2 trillion in increased military spending force us to go broke.

Illegal contributions from overseas. Of course CNN will never investigate what the press is saying and would never report the story of all the corruption and lawlessness of Obama.

Can you imagine where the country would be if the extreme right in Congress had put saving Country first above party. President Obama put Country above party and we see the results: Another Great Depression averted, Unemployment going down, More affordable healthcare, Osama Bin Laden gone (An actual boogie man), and GM alive! No spin, Just Obama's facts and results vs. Romney's threats to fire Big Bird.

No matter how much money the Rs spend, they won't buy this election! The American people are smarter than to elect the party that put us in the depression, then complain that we aren't getting out fast enough!!! And when the jobs report came out, they can't believe our Democratic president's policies are working!!! They'd rather say, "not good enough." We all know that. No matter what President Obama says or does, it will never be good enough. Well, we think Romney/Ryan aren't good enough either! Obama/Biden 2012

Wonder how much of the 183m that he doesn't spend go toward debt reduction? Its just funny to me how they can come up with that much money to campaign but cant pay the debt down. If you were to take how much each of them has taken in combine them together I bet you could pay 1/2 the debt

One piece of good news for the Dems about the first debate: if Romney hadn't impressed, the GOP moneybags were going to divert $$ to House and Senate races they had a chance to win. Now they will keep funding Romney's losing campaign, according to this morning's news reports. Good money after bad??

@Fact, thank you, because I am one of those 47%, retired and living on a limited income that I worked all my life and contributed to just like Obama's grandmother and mother. During my years of employment life many other people we contributed to wealthy employers and I refuse to contribute another dime of my earned income to Romney, he and his family are direct beneficiaries of harding working Americans including those who serve in our US Military.

Who are these people who give money to Obama? Is there any rule that one can contribute to a political campaign, ONLY if that individual is also paying his/her share of federal taxes?

In my opinion President Obama save the United States. Not to become a Third World Country ....from a very disastrous condition ,...Of course to Republicans they call it too much Government Spending... They want to get rid all government jobs and Unions and wanted all jobs to be in Private so no protection to workers who can be exploited.,,,,
Maybe there solution to have more Company to come back here in the U,S. Is to make our wages like the 3rd World Country......Who is going to be CONSUMER. .??.
