Ohio's economy a major factor in the presidential race

(CNN) – Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, a Democrat, argued Sunday the swing state's relatively low unemployment rate is a result of President Barack Obama's economic policies rather than the work of current Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a Republican.

"Ohio is coming back, and we're grateful for that. But the president deserves, in my judgment, the lion's share of the credit," Strickland said on CNN's "State of the Union."

Surrogates joust over debate performances

(CNN) – Surrogates continued to spar Sunday over last week’s presidential debate, with Democrats calling Mitt Romney’s performance “superb acting” while Republicans said the GOP candidate showed substance.

Obama campaign senior adviser Robert Gibbs conceded the president failed to perform up to expectations last week in Denver, but quickly pivoted to judge Romney’s stage presence as “a masterful theatrical performance” and “fundamentally dishonest for the American people.”

Latino voter registration efforts running out of time in Pennsylvania

(CNN) – In the days before a voter registration deadline, Latino groups are usually wrapping up their outreach efforts aimed at driving potential voters to the polls on Election Day. But this election season, Rafael Collazo led a sparse team of volunteers into the streets of Philadelphia, scrambling to get voters he wishes he could have signed up months ago.

"We sort of plan our campaign so that we're not in an extreme rush to the very end," said Collazo, who works for the National Council of La Raza. But this year, his tiny team is running into row houses dotted with Puerto Rican flags, shouting in English and Spanish about the need to register and vote. Team members have visited high schools and tried to rally apathetic youth who would be voting for the first time, if only they would register with the state.

Priebus plays expectations game for VP debate

(CNN) - The Republican National Committee chairman continued to downplay debate expectations for the GOP ticket Sunday, this time setting the stage for the upcoming showdown between Vice President Joe Biden and GOP vice-presidential nominee Paul Ryan.

"I think people realize that Joe Biden is a gifted orator. He's very good at rhetoric. And I think he's very relatable," Priebus said on CNN's "State of the Union."

New Romney ad pushes back at Obama tax charge

(CNN) – A new ad released by Mitt Romney's campaign Sunday pushes back against a claim President Barack Obama repeatedly leveled at Wednesday's presidential debate - a claim CNN's Fact Check found to be false.
