Romney riding high post-debate

Port St. Lucie, Florida (CNN) - Mitt Romney used a well-received debate performance to power his way through a three-day swing this weekend in Florida, where audiences seemed newly energized after his perceived victory over President Barack Obama.

Speaking to large crowds in St. Petersburg, Apopka and Port St. Lucie, Romney opened up his stump speeches by recapping his match-up against the president.

"We had a little debate earlier this week and I enjoyed myself," Romney told a roaring audience of roughly 10,000 in Port St. Lucie Sunday afternoon.

"You all had the chance to hear his answers - or his non-answers," he continued. "Now of course, days later we are hearing his excuses, and next January we'll be watching him leave the White House for the last time."

Another new staple of his stump speech: the stories of three Americans whose deaths touched Romney. The candidate spent time each day telling audiences about helping write a will for a 14-year-old with leukemia, as well as the death of a disabled friend.

"I know something about great human beings in this country," he said. "It's that that gives me the confidence that our future will be so bright, because I've seen how Americans respond to challenge, and even to tragedy."

On Monday Romney will give a foreign policy speech in Virginia, where he is expected to criticize Obama's handling of tumult in the Middle East.

"I commit to you I will be a leader," Romney told his supporters in Port St. Lucie Sunday. "When I'm president I will take the care that it takes to rebuild our principles and restore the principles that made America so strong."

Ann Romney also worked to humanize her husband when she introduced him Sunday.

The candidate's wife said the debate gave Americans a chance to see Romney "as I see him: a good and decent person, that throughout his life has exhibited his care for others. And now we're going to get a chance for him to really care for others because we're going to have the chance to see him get people back to work again."

"The liberals strategy of calling Romney a liar just exposes how weak their arguments and "plans" are."

I can't remember the last time I voted for a candidate who lied during his campaign, lied during primary debates, and lied during presidential debates. Perhaps lying isn't a drawback for you, but I assure you, it is for me. Romney's entire campaign has been based on one lie after another in a manner no other candidate has ever done previously. The thing is, Romney isn't ONLY lying to "liberals" ... he's lying to you also.

When u resort to name calling you have lost he argument. Obama has no explanation for anything Mitt said and so he has to resort to the kindergarten playground tactics. name calling.
    Gas prices doubled since 2008
Price of a gallon of milk, eggs, bread had increase over 60% since 2008,
    Housing prices gone down,
Poverty rate gone up, 36 million on food stamp in 2008 now we over 46 million
Unemployment is still higer than when Obama took office!
Who here believes that emplyoment has increase & economy has improved enough to drop the unemployment rate?
Medium household income gone down by $4500 since 2008
Obama even admitted that Insurance cost have increased since Obamacare has been passed, even though he lied to us and told us that his Obamacare would drive cost down?
Also remember, if u like your health care you can keep it? Another lie. Millions of Americans are losing their insurance.
Remember shovel ready? another lie that even Obama admitted that "shovel ready wasnt as shovel ready as we thought".

Obama lies point blank to the American people about Libya in an attempt to cover up the planned terrorist attack on anniv. of 9/11. Why b/c Obama has not attended his intelligence brieifings and failed to provide security to the Amb.
If Obama is a proven liar, how can anyone believe him on anything else he has said? Sheeps!

    Worse president ever!

Well, since the unemployment rate is below 8%, republicans will have to come up with a new line. It's simply amazing. They have to downplay any positive, we know. But to get on tv and say that someone cooked the books to get those numbers is almost as bad as the nutcases who believe it.

  7. HOLY TIGHTY WHITIES WILLARD

Willard will be downtown Newport News, VA this afternoon. He's in for a shocker. We don't like him here. That goes for republicans as well. He's giving a speech right next door to the Newport News Shipyard when everyone is either going to work or getting off of work and is closing down a major street. This goes to show you that he's not a strategic planner. Those shipyard workers are going to be pissed this afternoon when it takes them forever to get home. He must not know that this city is very much blue collar and alot of us fall into that 47% that he despises. Obama gave a speech at the the same location 4 years ago, however he was smart to hold his rally on a Saturday. You don't see alot of Romney/Ryan signs in peoples yards around here. Heck, when Paul Ryan was here 2 weeks ago at CNU, the students wanted to protest but the school prevented them from doing so. Virginia is Obama country!

Funny, I saw a guy hyped up on his first cup of coffee, flip-flopping on the tax policy he's been touting for 18 months, lying through his teeth and prattling on about how he suddenly cares for the 47% of Americans he considers blood-sucking ticks.

Besides, Ann, we all know that if you don't stick by your husband, when you die he won't call your secret name and you'll be condemned to spend eternity separated from your family and children.

Ah, yes. One of the 1%ers giving us their view on how Mitt Romney actually thinks of most Americans. Great post, by the way. It's not often a true 1% believer has the cajones to come on CNN and snark with such gusto as you. Generally those that defend Mitt Romney are the same folks Mitt Romney has such disdain for. They are just too delusional to understand. You on the other hand, have Romney pegged to a T.

Funny how all these people ( or same person, pretending to be different people ), can have such developed feelings of resentment and spite against someone, that's new and untried. Maybe Romney is threatening, the cnn obama boot lickers, safe haven with the truth. Reason Obama, had nothing to say in the debate, is that there is nothing to be said- about a bunch of self serving thugs, looking to grab power for themselves at the expense of best interests of america. After 4 year of doing this Obama, has no smoke screen, to hide behind anymore. That's Obama's problem. As for CNN since it's not Easter time, to they can declare Jesus Christ never existed (yes cnn we did not forget), this is they're gig at election time.

Before he got on stage he was a "strict conservative"... walking up on stage he became "moderate conservative" and walking off the stage he will be remembered as the liar.

Just a thought... why in the heck does CNN put all the articles under politics and after a half hour close discussion? Most annoying !!!

  13. You're too Stupid! for me to Math it out for you

Mitt did not win the debate. He steam-rolled the moderator. Period. He said NOTHING of substance. Nothing. He would stop funding for PBS "among other things." What, exactly are those other things??? He never, ever said. How is that a win? He was hyped up, which allowed him to say, well, nothing. And what he did say were lies. He lied about pre-existing conditions, his tax cut, etc. He called his 5 sons liars (like father like sons?) He's a nauseating individual. Gag.

@UDidntBuildThat: "Gas prices doubled since 2008"

Funny, I remember paying over $5 a gallon for gas the summer of 2008, when GW was in office (and in some places, folks were paying $6 a gallon). Food prices back then were also higher, due to increased transportation costs. BTW, natural gas prices are DOWN by $3 since 2008.

Housing prices crashed under GW's watch and are now rebounding, thanks to President Obama's policies. More people on food stamps? Yes – in part because of all the layoffs made by Republican governors to the public sector and because businesses are sitting on $2 trillion in cash.

We've had 30 straight months of private sector job growth; when GW left office, we were losing 800,000 jobs a MONTH.

Health insurance costs have gone up – but at a significantly LOWER rate than previously. Complain to the health insurance companies who insist on putting CEO salaries and stockholders' dividends ahead of putting those dollars to work keeping premium costs down!

And under Obamacare you CAN keep your insurance; the law DOES NOT require you to change coverage.

Lastly, regarding Obama's attendance at intelligence briefings, that pales in comparison to GW Bush ignoring the August 6, 2001 President Daily Briefing entitled, "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S."

    Obama/Biden 2012 = The only sane choice

Romney did nothing bit lie so if that makes him high, well, each to his own. He is a liar and has nothing to offer America but more lies, more pain, more unemployment , more war, more environmental destruction and a lot of sick to the stomach days.

Ancient, what exactly has the "liberal media" lied about? Is Fox apart of the liberal media? They have said many of the same things. Matter of fact, there's a lil video out there of some of the remarks republicans have made about Romney.

Conservatives have been complaining about the "liberal media" since Palin made it popular. Conservatives may be content with listening to a man not give a single detail about his grand plans, but apparently republicans aren't. They have asked for tax returns, details on job, budget, etc. We have nothing. Except pie in the sky dreams and misleading statements about the state of the economy.

All you guys have are Rush approved talking points, untruths proven as such on many an occasion by multiple sources, a failed ideology of smaller government unless it has anything to do with abortion and a host of other issues that prevent you from seeing the truth. Romney's tales of a bad economy that only he can fix is wrong on two fronts: Things aren't as bad as he needs them to be and his plans for fixing "things" more than likely doesn't fix the imaginary issues he made up.

It is all the same calling names in all elections seem to have been the morm since I can rmember but to lie to get what you want is a whole different thing,be honest and if you are for the rich so be it that is your choice but don't hurt others or try to keep them down because you are so greedy that you want all for self and your counterparts, be fair so that we all can live a normal desreved life if we all are hard working people I don't care where the Millionares and Billionares got their money from but don't do things to make your life better and yet Hurt the fellow man who is trying to put food on their families table and keep a roof over their heads, we love our families and want sucess in life for our children as the rich do for theirs. It has been said may times if you tell one lie you have to keep lying to cover up the first lie., and if people can't read, hear or see from the adds on TV,reading the papers and listening to Romeny at his campaign speeches which I have attended in Virginia that he have changed his speeched to what he thinks the people want to hear not to what is his true feekings about the middle calss then I guess it is what it is and for those that want to know I am not a democrat eith I am an INDEPENDANT>

Romney is running on the assumption that most Americans have not been paying attention to the election throughout the republican primaries. He is betting on the fact that most people are not aware of his previous pandering lies to the far-right and that he can etch-a-sketch to the middle and nobody will notice...wrong! More people have probably been engaged in this election since it's beginning more then any race in history.

Romney monopolized the debabe conversation , fast talked, flip-flopped, lied, and made up answers on the fly. Most Americans noticed.

udidn'tbuildthat, how is that new house on Conservative Island?

Unemployment rate in Jan 2009 was 7.8%. I think that pretty much sums it up. Most of your arguments are just as false. Those figures you state for household incomes is hilarious. News flash, genius. During a recessions, things go bad. Did you really expect things to NOT be bad? Typical conservative thinking....or lack there of.

As for Obamacare, check the Kaiser reports as they have to report the reasons for any increases. I know reading isn't high on you guys' list of things you can do, but have someone read it to you. You'd be surprised to find that any increases had little to do with Obamacare.

You guys have nothing but your base anger at Obama. Why, well that's for the pundits to mull over. I just know it's pretty simple minded. But par for the course with your side.

  24. Obama is a disaster!

ghost "Well, since the unemployment rate is below 8%, republicans will have to come up with a new line."

During the Bush administration, when the unemployment rate was at 4.6%, Democrats were calling it a crisis. Now? well, it's not important now that a Democrat is in office...

The real problem is that the labor participation rate is at it's lowest since 1981. It has been on a sharp decline throughout Obama's presidency. What does this mean? People in many cases have simply stopped looking for jobs, giving up hope to even find one. Those jobs that Obama has claimed to have created are mostly lower paying jobs as well. Personal income levels for middle and lower class have gone down by about 4% since 2009.

I don't paint that as anything good. Obama has simply not been able to perform. again...

I cannot believe the people of this nation want to go back to the G. Bush era with Romney. Romney is using all ex Bush advisors so even his foreign policy will be like G. Bush. It will mean instant wars with Syria and Iran under Romney, massive trillions of debt to fight the wars. Republicans really don't care about DEBT. They are using it to get elected. If you check the history of our national debt. Republicans Presidents ran the highest. So don't be fooled by Romney/Ryan on debt, they don't care, in fact Ryan voted for all the debt increases under G. Bush, He has no concern then, so why NOW RYAN?
