Obama takes kids' questions; Romney declines

Washington (CNN) – President Obama says his most embarrassing moment is when he runs into a wall. It is "par for the course for me…I'm running into doors and desks all the time."

The comments came as he answered kids' questions for the Nickelodeon special: "Kids Pick the President: The Candidates."

You can follow Kevin Bohn on Twitter @KevinBohnCNN.

Nickelodeon videotaped kids posing the questions around the country, and the president answered them during an interview session at the White House. He also responded to questions about gun control, illegal immigration, jobs, outsourcing and bullying, according to a release from the network.

The responses are part of a special airing next week after which kids will vote for the candidate they think should be president. The network says in five of the last six elections the kids have correctly chosen the winner.

In a release, the network says Mitt Romney declined to participate after numerous attempts. The program will include file sound bites of Romney addressing the subjects.

The president's re-election campaign wasted no time in hitting its opponent over not participating. "It's no surprise Romney decided to play hookey. Kids demand details, and I'm sure they want some answers on why Romney could increase their class sizes, eliminate their teacher's jobs, raise taxes on their families and slash funding for Big Bird. Unfortunately for Mitt Romney, 'The dog ate my homework' just doesn't cut it when you're running for President," Obama campaign deputy press secretary Adam Fetcher said in a statement.

The Romney campaign refused to comment on its decision beyond saying it was unable to fit it into the candidate's schedule.

Both Obama and Sen. John McCain participated in the Nickelodeon 2008 kids special. Neither Sen. John Kerry nor President George W. Bush did an interview for it in 2004.

Romneys scared he'd get a question from an intelligent kid and wouldn't know how to answer it!!It simple with this new poll saying Romneys taken the lead just how gullible and ignorent a lot of people saying Romney their candidate. You want a draftdodger as Commander in Chief sending your kids to some war because of his bullying mouth,I don't think so.Or getting his political as well as his foriegn policy advise from ex Bush advisors, remember they were the ones that drove us in the ditch right in the first place, you don't want to go back there right!!And how bout his not telling people about his 47% turnabout, nothing new here just another Romney flip flop right in standing behind his stance and not backing off than just like that he does a 180,how's that possible, you'd go crazy if the president did that wouldn't you!!Wait till the VP debate,Biden will not back off and isn't as polished in debates,he'll just come looking for a brawl that's all and the gloves come off for Biden and the president as well, all hands on deck the presidents going to war for the poor and middleclass,be proud he's with us!! Obama/ Biden 2012, the right way forward!!

Why would he? He wouldn't cut defense spending but he would cut help for PBS. The kids were going to get him for it and he ducked the bullet as usual.

I have no problem with people not choosing the military. What I do have a problem is people like you mocking people for not joining the military when you yourself wouldn't either.

Oh how cute, Obama was able to answer kiddie questions and with those kids Obama was able to deliver unlike when he needed to answer adult questions and deliver to adults. Well. now we know at what level Obama is able to function without a teleprompter, oh no wait, the kids show just didn't show Obama using his teleprompter.

President Obama did answer the adult questions, far better than Mitt Romney did. It's not his fault you're not capable of listening at an adult level. Maybe you need to tune in to the kid's show in order to find out what the President said.

You Obama-ites are so funny and easily distracted. PBS will be fine without it's subsidy. It makes plenty of money to survive. It's funny that after a horrible debate performance and the middle east in turmoil all Obama can do is crack Big Bird jokes and go on Nickalodeon. Obama doesn't have time to meet with world leaders at the UN meeting yet, he found the time to be on The View and hang with Jay-Z and Beyonce. You rip Romney for not having time for kids....well Obama apparently doesn't have time for leaders of the world and actually doing his presidential duties. NO WONDER OUR COUNTRY IS GOING DOWN THE CRAPPER. Get Obama out of there ASAP!!!

Romney can't speak to kids because they tell it like it is. While adults try to give you the benefit of the doubt and let you get away with saying things that are untrue, kids will make a face when you lie to them and call you out on it. That's no place for a chronic liar like the Mittster.

@ Sorenson.....Looks like Romney was able to inspire a number of people with his debate performance. That's because they saw the real Romney. Not the Romney that Obama has made up and mislead the American people with. The only Romney that contradicts Romney is the Romney created by Obama.

Most embarrasing moment is running into walls? I would have thought it would have been flying off to Las Vegas for a fundraiser after finding out that 4 americans were killed by terriorist on soverign U.S. territory. Maybe that was the second most embarrassing momonet huh, Mr. President?

romney has no interest in kids they don't vote. Besides he might have to tell the truth. Something he is not use to. Forward.

the media HAS to report this presidential race as a close one just like they do with all of them so they have something to write about... Pres. Obama is going to be re-elected, it's obvious. he's got the old people vote this time around, plus romney really screwed himself over the past few months.

Prince Harry and William both serve in their countries military, in fact Harry's currently in Afghan. Romney has five(5) sons, are they suppose to be royalty or something that they can't serve?
    ----------–

Chelsea Clinton didn't serve in the military either, oh wait, she's a woman which means that your question only applies to men.

On top of Patrick's response to "myviewis"; I'd have to add that women DO serve in the military making your rebuttle invalid (like most of the nonsense you say)! True, they dont serve in straight combat roles yet, but they ARE trained in that capacity. As a personal point of reference, a childhood friend of mine is in water reclaimation and distribution to our troops in Afghanistan and although her convoys are very low risk, she's within a couple steps of a rifle and knows how to use it well cuz when it comes to combat zones, you never REALLY know till the bullets zip by.

Oh please, tell that to the millions of Americans that only hear Obama's administration makes excuses for the president and by the way Obama did make fun of his own bad performance in the debate to the Hollywood gang.

According to Gallop Romney beat Obama by the largest margin ever in debate history. 72% to 20%. LARGEST IN HISTORY (at least since the Gallop polls have been done). You think that's a fluke? No, it's because Amerrica is finally seeing Obama for who he truely is, a concieted liar who only cares about himself and will say anything to get re-elected. Continue watching him speak more for Romney than he does for himself. It's because just like at the debate.....he has nothing to say for himself.

If Obama thought Romney was lying President Obama should have confronted Romney on the debate, afterall, Obama is the president of the U.S. but Obama didn't which means Romney was not lying.

Want to know what's really funny? You stupid righties who think that one bad debate performance is an indication that Obama will not be reelected. You heard it here first. Romney can lie his way through all the debates, and still President Obama will be reelected. Big Bird will be fine because his subsidy to PBS is not going to be cut off. Romney will ultimately lose. Let it sink in and start to accept it now. Romney will never be president of the United States.

For those with an in-built hatred for Obama, personally, I think he failed 90% of his supporters in 2008; but then, when given to choose between two evils, I would have to go with the one who honors kids' request! That Obama failed those who brought him into pwer four year ago, is another story – American politics at it worst! However, when kids request to talk to a grown up, any sensible person would honor such a request, especially one who wants to lead the nation. It appears, Mitt is too proud to care for even kids, which is worse than the 47% of Americans he has long written off! Only the gullible would consider such a man worthy of leading a nation like America! In some banana republic, yes!

question immigration, outsourcing and other stuff, he keeps those answer for his next debate full of lies.

I am so sorry someone dropped you on your head and abandoned you. Don't bother replying I am spending the rest of the day with my family. Sorry you don't have a family or anyone that cares for you.
