Romney calls for strong U.S. role in world affairs

(CNN) – Mitt Romney promised Monday to restore the traditional U.S. foreign policy dating to the end of World War II, based on exerting influence through military and economic power, in a major speech two weeks before he debates President Barack Obama on international issues.

In the address at the Virginia Military Institute, Romney argued that Obama is failing to provide the global leadership needed and expected by the rest of the world, especially key allies like Israel.

    You want to be a strong influence in the middle east, America? Fine, quit buying Saudi oil. It can be done. It won't be cheap or convenient, and you may lose your beloved pickup truck, but the results would be worth it. Ask yourself, what would our middle eastern foreign policy be like if we didn't buy oil from anyone in the middle east?

    guys, debate is not show and tell.

    Sending to war is flesh and blood. You could be aggressive if you send yourself and your kids to war.

    Don't ever start a war in the name of USA. Enough is enough

    @2020 – Romney will sacrifice America's sons and daughters but not one of his precious beloved sons and how Sen. John McCain supports this Vietnam draft dodger is beyond me. Americans, please don't let Romney send your children to war, they're precious and beloved to you also.

    The World as we know it, will be in a very serious state if Romney manages to lie his way into the White House. The Ready, Fire, Aim policy that Romney offers could bring this wonderful world to an end really fast. If we think George W. Bush setup a false war, just watch what this crazy man will do, i we let him.

    Seriously, if Romney wins in November many people should not sleep well at night. Much of his "foreign affairs doctrine" is just a copycat of President Obama's but where they differ, Romney sounds like Bush on steroids,. Just what the US needs- another blustering war hawk. He is such a hypocrite on the Israel-Palestine problem. When in Israel last summer he insulted the Palestines and in his famous 47% tape he says the Palestines have no interest in peace. Now he has completely switched and says he supports dialogue. Does this guy flip-flop on every single issue? Has he stayed true to any of his original policies? If he becomes President, how can Americans believe what he says and whether or not he will change in an instant? This "big speech" was very weak and sets the stage for the next debate about foreign policy. Now, that should be interesting.

    @Mona
    Romney's speech was great! This is what true leadership looks like. I'm sure he can accomplish his goals without reinstating the draft, however, all you weak-kneed scaredy cats are pathetic. What happened to the home of the brave? You know, death isn't the worse thing that can happen to you. Maybe if Americans could find some courage, even a small amount of our ancestors' dosage, we may still have a chance.

    Wow , are you for real ?

    Since Mitt and Bibi used to work together, its hardly surprising they are chums. If Romney is elected, we take a giant step towards getting the oligarchy we deserve. Heads of state who worked at Boston Capital can get together and decide who's son's and daughters get to die today, safe in the knowledge that none of them will be called upon to sacrifice their blood and treasure. Its Ironinc that Romney referenced Marshall in his speech, since Marshall committed the US to rebuilding Europe and partering with them in an effort to stabilize the world. Romney's clumsy attempts at foreign policy will only serve to waste more blood and treasue in a part of the world that will never understand us. Leadership is taking a methodical, measured apporach to a situation, which has been the hallmark of George Marshall and Barak Obama. Romney treats everything as an exercise in testosterone, and should be no where near a position of policy-making.

    To recap: War is good as long as my 5 trust fund babies are safe, and the kids of the 99% can be used as cannon fodder.

    So Romney wants to arm Islamic Extremists in Syria. Brilliant!! To think Israel is right next door. I'm sure they would their weapons in that direction.
