Big Bird puts his big orange foot down

(CNN) – This is one angry bird.

After President Barack Obama's campaign released a commercial using the Sesame Street character to mock rival Mitt Romney, Big Bird's parents at Sesame Workshop asked the president's team to take it down.

Poll: Obama lead in Michigan dwindles

(CNN) – A poll in Mitt Romney's home state of Michigan shows the GOP presidential nominee within three percentage points of President Barack Obama, a dramatic shift from one month ago when the president led his rival by double digits.

The EPIC-MRA survey released Monday showed Obama with the support of 48% of likely voters in Michigan, compared to 45% who said they support Romney. The gap was within the poll's sampling error.

On the Trail: October 9, 2012

(CNN) – Mitt Romney spends Tuesday campaigning in Iowa and Ohio, while President Barack Obama also hits the trail in Ohio, making a stop at Ohio State University.

Also Tuesday, top surrogates for both campaigns–including former Democratic President Bill Clinton and GOP New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie–appear at campaign events.

28 days to go: After weeks of struggles, a horse race for Mitt Romney

Editor's Note: This is the first in an occasional series, "The Home Stretch," counting down to Election Day with Mitt Romney.

Newport News, Virginia (CNN) – With 28 days to go, conventional wisdom is all wet. After a day of dodging buckets of rain at events across Virginia, Mitt Romney may have turned the corner in what's fast becoming a remarkable horse race to the finish with President Barack Obama.

The Romney campaign received word that a new national poll indicated he had pulled ahead of the president just before a rally Monday under a torrential downpour in Newport News.

Mitt Romney rolled out a new response to last week’s jobs numbers during a rain-soaked rally in Newport News Monday. After the release of Friday's government report showing unemployment had dipped to 7.8%, its lowest rate in years, Romney dropped a regular line attacking President Barack Obama for presiding over 43 months in office with a rate higher than 8%.

Paul Ryan and Kid Rock talk politics

Rochester, Michigan (CNN) – Vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan focused on the sluggish economy at a rally that included a rock star introduction by Kid Rock, despite last week’s slight improvement of the nation’s jobless rate.

In Michigan Monday evening, Ryan pivoted from Friday’s government report, which showed unemployment had dipped to its lowest rate in years to 7.8%, to sluggish job growth.

Big Bird the focus in sarcastic new Obama ad

(CNN) – The unlikely star of last week’s presidential debate is now starring in a political ad from President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign.

The spot, released Tuesday, sarcastically casts Big Bird as a corporate fiend akin to Bernie Madoff and Kenneth Lay. The campaign said it would air on national broadcast and cable.
