Poll: Obama lead in Michigan dwindles

(CNN) – A poll in Mitt Romney's home state of Michigan shows the GOP presidential nominee within three percentage points of President Barack Obama, a dramatic shift from one month ago when the president led his rival by double digits.

The EPIC-MRA survey released Monday showed Obama with the support of 48% of likely voters in Michigan, compared to 45% who said they support Romney. The gap was within the poll's sampling error.

That's a shift from an EPIC-MRA poll conducted September 8-11, which showed Obama leading Romney 47%-37%. The poll released Monday was conducted October 4-6, entirely after the first presidential debate between the two candidates.

In the poll, 66% of likely Michigan voters said Romney was the winner of the debate, which was held October 3 in Denver. Twelve percent said Obama won the debate, and 8% said it was a draw.

The number of undecided voters in the poll dropped to seven percent, down from 16% when the poll was conducted in September.

A CNN/ORC International survey also conducted in mid-September showed Obama leading Romney 52%-44% in Michigan.

Both Romney and his wife Ann were born in Michigan, and the candidate's father served as governor of the state in the 1960s. Among the key issues for voters in Michigan this year is the auto bailout, which is a central point of Obama's campaign message.

As part of the bailout, GM and Chrysler accepted federal loans amounting to $80 billion, though a portion of that came under the administration of former President George W. Bush. Romney opposed the government bailout and pushed for a privately financed, managed bankruptcy of the two automakers. In February, GM announced record annual profit, and regained its position as the world's largest automaker.

The EPIC-MRA survey, which was conducted for the Detroit Free Press, surveyed 600 likely Michigan voters by telephone and the sampling error was plus or minus 4 percentage points.

You may want to ask, are they polling independents and undecided voters or is it the usual loyal base?

Michigan is going to vote for someone who said "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt".

How can people base their choice on someone lying during a debate.

Obama was totally disgusted by the dishonestly of Romney during the debate and he chose not to attack him. Now there is character that we should be proud of. Don't reward the Bully Romney by giving him the keys to the white house.

Romney's foreign policy has many speculating if he plans start a war with Iran on day one. Romney statement about arming Syrian rebels has already alarmed Israel of the possibility of not knowing who the rebels are could lead to them shooting down an Israeli aircraft. Romney not only is reckless and now he brings into question as to whether he's following George W. Bush's policies. We don't need another war, we can't afford another war and we cannot have a president who is reckless.

I'm amazed that the American public can go from supporting the president to supporting pretty boy Romney on the basis of one debate. Sadly there is apparently no thought going into the choices being made by the nation. I wonder how many of those who have now decided to vote for Romney can describe the specifics of what Romney's healthcare plan are, his plan for the American economy, his plan for taxing Americans, and what his foreign policy is. What a bunch of fluffheads who can be led by the nose by a person who has insulted and discredited them before his cronies in secret events.

Oh, darn. And I so wanted Obama to win the election. Apparently the media is now promoting the idea that not only will Mitt Romney win, but the bigger the lies he tells the more support he gets from his own party. Ah, well. If this is how Romney choses to dupe his own party, who am I to agrue. He duped them during the primary and never looked back. Then again, it's not as if he hasn't been, well ... lying ... his entire life over one thing or another.

I personally would never vote for him. Then again, I also think that Obama/Biden will absolutely win re-election.

Voters are so fickle, promise them a "chicken in every pot" and they'll come running. They seem to have forgotten the Robme/Lyin Ryan boys will take away their mortgage deduction then give the chicken to the fat cat mortgage broker.

Once again Obama cannot take full credit for yet 1 more thing such as the auto bailout because it was started by President Bush in 2008........ "As part of the bailout, GM and Chrysler accepted federal loans amounting to $80 billion, though a portion of that came under the administration of former President George W. Bush" which to me is why Obama did not mention the auto bailout in the debate because Obama knows he was following Bush's footsteps.

Obama also followed Romney's footsteps with Romneycare which served as the blueprint for Obamacare.

In reality, Obama has not created anything of his own. He has finished something started by another president or he has created something out of another person's creation but Obama has not spend countless hours creating something completely 100% of his own.

And this morning I hear a large number of workers have been placed on furlough because the Michigan battery plant that received taxdollars support from Obama has yet to produce enough batteries for the GM electric car.

It's exciting to see that people may actually be starting to snap out of this delusion that Obama is anything but an empty, weak man with good speech writers.

This is becuase we in Michigan saw the sausage being made in the so called Auto Bailout. GM is on life support and 28 percent of it stock is still owned by the Government Motors. Word on the street is GM might have to go bankruptcy again after November. They also only counted the "saved Jobs" not the ones they forced out with this whole deal. After this deal the number one car built mostly in the US is Toyota. Yep you asked for it you got it Toyota.

Not to worry, polls will switch back forth for the next few weeks because the media and the polster have to make money. But on election day President Obama will be re-elected

Mitt is riding a temporary post debate high. It says a lot when only some of the polls show that he's ahead or dead even with Obama. When one poll said Obama was leading they all said that Obama was leading. Until they (polls) all say that Mittens is leading, as far as I'm concerned Obama is still leading. This is good for the media. Romney will not be elected president of these United States.

"In February, GM annonced record annual profit....." Just like cnn to editorialize in support of the bailout to aid obama.......and now for the rest of the story for all you libs who suddenly feel the need for TRUTH, despite obama and the mainstream media spinmeisters delivering nothing close to the truth during the massive FAIL of the last 3 years.......
we, the american people, not obama, bailed out GM, or more accurately, GM's unions. Delphi workers (over 20.000 nonunion workers), bondholders, creditors, and any other individual or group that were not politically connected to obama were CRUSHED/SLAMMED, illegally, i might add..........so, we, the american taxpayers, provided 52 BILLION dollars to GM to support obama's political allies and help keep GM afloat ( something a normal bankruptcy proceeding would have accomplished)........now, we, the american taxpayer, are still owed 26 BILLION dollars.......the price of GM stock needs to go from 24 to over $50/share for us to get our money back........and they won't get there with my help......i own a GM truck........never again........have a nice day........
