(CNN) - Paul Ryan's debate preparations have involved a core team of aides, improvised sessions on his plane, and mock debates in hotels all around the country.
But one thing Ryan did not do to prepare – seek advice from the only other Republican who has faced off against Joe Biden in a vice presidential debate: Sarah Palin.

"You know I haven't," Ryan answered when asked in an exclusive interview if he had reached out to the former Alaska governor. "I don't really know her. I only met her once and that was about two years ago."
Asked if he would ask Palin's advice given the chance, Ryan said he would.
"Sure, sure, sure," he said.
As for Palin's now-famous inquiry on whether she could call Biden "Joe" ahead of their 2008 match-up, Ryan said he and his opponent were already on first name terms.
"I know him as Joe and he calls me Paul," the Wisconsin congressman said.
So will he call the vice president "Joe" during Thursday's debate?
"You know I haven't given it that much thought to be honest with you," Ryan said. "Probably not, unless he wants to make it casual. But we know each other. Actually, we've gotten along quite well over the years. I like Joe personally quite a bit I just disagree with his policies."
Those disagreements are certain to emerge at Thursday's debate in Danville, Kentucky. A source familiar with Ryan's debate preparations tells CNN that since the first presidential debate, they have intensified focus on lines President Barack Obama ignored during his first debate with GOP nominee Mitt Romney, including hitting Romney for his remarks on the 47%, and for his role at Bain Capital, the private equity firm he co-founded.
Since those sore spots for team Romney didn't come up at all during the first presidential debate – a point of dismay among many Democrats – Ryan sources believe Biden will attempt to make up for it on during their debate.

Ryan would look silly winking every other sentence, saying "maverick" every few seconds and giving a shout out to elementary school kids just to buy some time. Instead he will just LIE LIE LIE.
This story is here b/c CNN wants to scare independent voters with the word "Palin." It shows the network is desperate to reelect its candidate, Obama.
Ryan, why not call her she's experienced in screwing up ,get some ideas from her,but don't call McCain the marriage been annulled!!
First line "hey Joe, did anyone ever give you that number for Recovery.com?' "Hey Joe, do you know Bush left office 3 1/2 years ago and your boss has built what we have today?" should just let Joe do the talking and Joe will lose the debate.
Boy the Liberals are Flailing, bringing out their old Nemesis Palin's name to get laughs from the Choir
Why would he get advice from a failed candidate obviously a failed candidate failed for a reason.
Ryan will smoke this old yard dog, friend or not. Joe is just to angry about life in general.
Paul Ryan hasn't called Palin for advice
Ok, well now we know he's not a complete fool.
That must be a joke, right! Palin is what cost McCain the election. He picked someone that he did not vet and it bit him in the , well you know.
If he's going to call a Palin, it shouldn't be Sarah....It should be Bristol, she allready won a another term on DWTS
C'mon Katie, how long has Obama been in office? It's time to stop blaming past Presidents faliures. Obama has had more than enough time to fix everything thing you've listed. Yes, Obama has spent more than enough of my tax dollars on doing nothing at all. He has done nothing, no foreign policy, no real domesitc policy (except for his socialist health care). Your arguement is mute. Just like Obama's reign.
Don't ask "stupid" for advice unless you'd like stupid advice.
Thank you, Katie...I couldn't have said it better myself. Obama 2012...
Wow CNN, really really good reporting. Keep up the good work?
Why do you characterize Paul Ryan as "the Catholic deer hunter form Wisconsin"?
Pay close attention, now, Steve. Who characterized Ryan that way? Paul Ryan, that's who.
Paul was going to call Palin for advice, however, when he found out it was a 900 number and would be billed $1.00 per minute he decide against calling her. However, it should not be very expensive since her advice could probably be given in less than a minute.
Ryan calling Palin for Advise would be like the Make a Wish Foundation calling Jerry Sandusky for advice on running a charity....... There isn’t a person in the GOP who is asking Palin for anything, other than to disappear this election. I think her and "Joe the Plumber" are on a slow moving boat to nowhere funded by Romney.....
Why would you call one of the dumbest women in America and ask her how to do anything? She can't hardly find her way out of a paper bag. She has to be one of the stupidest people in the country. And if her running mate had won, and then died, SHE would have been running the country. That is so scary it makes me want to leave the country.
Man Mitt and Paul just cant keep from lying. Oh heck, lets just have Sara and Paul debate each other to see who is a bigger tea bagger why dont we?? He can throw numbers at her and she can explain her daughter's out of wed lock baby babble..... what a cute couple they make.
Winners don't ask losers for advice.
Palin is the reason that we have a community organizer for president.
Even in this report the media wants to dig up the "47%" comment trying to make something of it. Get with the real issues. Who cares whether he talked to plain anyway? Is this the best news they have to work on? Trivial.
Lyin' is a completely different kind of dope from Palin. Talking to her wouldn't help.
Is Ryan a total imbecile?!? He's not "Joe", he's the Vice President. You didn't see Obama and Romney refer to each other as "Barack" and "Mitt" did you? Ryan is so clueless the only way he could be even moreso is if he actually did get advice from the Alaskan airhead.
