Rand Paul talks 2016 prospects

(CNN) - Is Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky laying the groundwork for a 2016 presidential bid?

That was the question Wednesday from CNN's Erin Burnett, who cited Paul's new super PAC "Rand PAC." It began running television ads this week calling for the elimination of foreign aid.

Tune to CNN for Thursday's vice presidential debate coverage starting at 7 p.m. ET on CNN TV, CNN.com and via CNN's apps for iPhone, iPad and Android. Web users can become video editors with a new clip-and-share feature that allows them to share favorite debate moments on Facebook and Twitter.

"At least you don't have to change the name of the PAC or anything if you switch what you're running for," Burnett said as she closed the interview.

"You may be right there," the Kentucky lawmaker said.

I agree, get rid of foreign aid if we are SERIOUS about deficit and debt reduction. Especially foreign aid to islamic led governments who have a hate for the west, particularl the U.S. The U.S. is broke, borrowing money from the likes of China, yet, is sending mony overseas to nations who really don't deserve it.

With the way Republicans have been the last 12 years, I'm hoping the GOP won't even be around in 2016 ...

CNN, your ratings are so low; Fox News will own you guys soon if you don’t change your strategy. You have to report the truth.

If he makes the 2016 run, he'll not win the nomination. The Republican establishment won't let him win the nomination.

I'm an Indepedant and feel that with Rand Paul I know where he stands and would vote for him vs. picking 'the lesser of two evils', or 'the devil you know for the devil you do not know' as is the case in 2012.

This man is pretty dumb...and to all the paulites out there: why would you want people in government who think government doesn't work? They just get in there and prove you right by doing nothing useful and collecting a check, courtesy of the taxpayers. Would you want a CEO who says business doesn't work, therefore we must cease all operations? No, because it's ridiculous. Same thing with the Paul family. They are nothing but frauds.

Mr. Paul is ill-informed about so many things, he makes Romeny appear genius. Let's hope he puts his his time in the upcoming session to actually solving problems, rather than being the impediment.

Libertarians are in interesting breed. Liberals agree with them on social issues and disagree with them on regulatory issues. Conservatives agree with them on regulatory issues and disagree with them on social issues.

Since there is always a candidate willing to pander to both regulatory and fiscal positions for liberals, and there is always a candidate willing to pander to both regulatory and fiscal positions for conservatives, it rather leaves the libertarians out-pandered.

Yeah, thats likely to go somewhere. But, then, Libertarian ideologues like Paul are far more interested in theory than in reality.

Rand Paul running for President? That's as hilarious as Romney constantly liying about every position and then pretending he never said it. The People are not as stupid aa Republicans wish we were. We know neither Romney nor Rand are presidential material. Romney has been running for President for nearly 20 years. When is he going to get that no one, even Republicans, want him as the leader of anything? He couldn't even get re-elected as Governor of MA for destroying the state with his polcies. We will not let him destroy America either.

What makes you think Paul will run in 2016? Romney/Ryan will be re-elected that year.

Does Republican Rand Paul knows how stupid he looks criticizing the Republican candidate for the presidency? He's playing right into the hands of CNN-loving Obama. I don't want another war either, but isn't this best covered in private instead of airing his complaints on CNN?

    October 11, 2012 12:48 am at 12:48 am |

Why is CNN talking about Paul Rand running in 2016, that is like asking in 2010, Is Sarah Palin running in 2012. Let's focus on today and worry about 2016 when we get there.
