Romney ad duo hits Obama on raising taxes

(CNN) – Republican nominee Mitt Romney's campaign released two new television ads Wednesday criticizing what the GOP nominee says is President Barack Obama's plan to raise taxes.

Using footage from Denver's presidential debate, the ads capitalize on Romney's strong showing at the candidates' first faceoff using clips spliced together of the GOP candidate touting his plan to create jobs.

According to a CNN/ORC International survey conducted right after the debate, 67% of debate watchers questioned said that the Republican nominee won the contest, with one in four saying that President Barack Obama was victorious. Polls released this week continued to indicate Romney received a post-debate bounce from his lauded performance.

"Look at the evidence of the last four years… We've got 23 million people out of work or stopped looking for work...," said Romney in clips from Denver's debate in one of the ads. "I'm not going to raise taxes on anyone... My plan is to bring down rates … to get more people working.”

The 30-second spots continue using clips of Romney from the first debate discussing his plan to reduce taxes while hammering the president for what the Republican campaign bills as job plan that would raise taxes on middle-income Americans.

"They're suffering in this country," Romney says while text reads "Under President Obama: $4,000 Tax Hike On Middle-Class Families," pointing to a study by the American Enterprise Institute.

An Obama campaign ad released October 6 following the debate pushes back on the study's findings, questioning the organization's political leanings.

"The chairman of that so-called independent group is from Romney's former company. Dick Cheney is on its board. Newt Gingrich was there, too," the Obama ad released over the weekend says. "It's not independent – it's just not true."

Obama spokesman Danny Kanner responded to Wednesday's ads saying, "There is nothing Mitt Romney won't say to win votes. In the last few weeks, Romney has said there would be no major tax cuts as part of his $5 trillion tax plan because he'd cut deductions to pay for it."

"But today, his ads suggest the middle class will see a 20 percent tax cut if he were elected. That's despite the fact that independent, non-partisan analysis confirms paying for Romney's massive tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans would require him to raise middle class taxes by cutting important deductions like the mortgage interest deduction," said Kanner.

As Mr. Romney can't do math (add $2trillion to the defense budget + cut big bird= balanced budget), it is about time for Americans (AND Republicans) to remember that when America began paying out big dole to the rich that deficts began. Time to reverse course people.

"This is my last election. After my election I will have a lot more flexibility." –Obama
After this election, we don't know what he's planning on doing if he's elected, but clearly that put him into office and the promises he has made won't be a concern.

Mitt Romney needs to hammer Obama on the economics. This is the issue and this is the time to put everything on the table. Obama/ Biden 2012 has 2 teams to contend with: Romney/ Ryan 2012 and Obama/ Biden 2008.

Obama said the guy who was on the stage with him for the first debate could not have been Romney because what he said contradicted what real Romney has been saying to the American people for the past year.

If so, can somebody please show in a TV ad simply and clearly progression of never-ending changes in positions in various issues Romney has taken over the last few years? People need to see how Romney is now saying anything and everything in order to win the election.

Smart for Romney to continue to define himself as opposed to the false definition obama has been spending millions on in his almost completely negative ad campaign for president. Also smart to remind people of Obama's lack of preparation and apathy, which was on full display at the recent debate.

@rs and @Jack – if you are able to step back from the hate-mongoring and lies, you will find that Romney has been an incredibly successful businessman (and you can rail against capitalism all you want, just please detail where he broke ANY law and if you want to go for a 'moral' argument, please follow it up by explaining why O took ANY tax deductions every year). He has turned around the debt in MA and at the Olympics. He worked with numbers all day at Bain. So your argument/regurgitation of O that he can't add just doesn't add up. When you are capable of saying a man who has started a huge and successful business, been a governor that turned around a debt problem and saved the Olympics (again, you may whine that it was so easy, but if it was, why hadn't somebody done it before he was called in?) can't add in the defense of O who has no accomplishments in his past even in the ballpark of R, then you truly are lost and are part of the 47%. The 47% referring to its real meaning (not the O spin machine meaning), that there are 47% who will vote for O no matter what.

On CNN this morning I saw Wofl Blitzer speaking with Mitt Romeny.

Romney said "The presidents policies are not something we can afford for four more years.
We just can't afford more of what we've gone through".

It amazes me to realize how much information we receive and how much we forget.

The last Republican administration (G.W. Bush) along the our Multi-National Corporate Industry created so much debt and havoc to the American people that we are still recuperating. Romney can't blame Obama for the past 4 years. The past four years have been trying to respond to the damages caused during the Bush administration.

Please look at: http://americanhistory2000-2012.com/ to see a United States visual timeline of our 21st Century. Remember and ask yourself "What Is Really Going On".

Cut & spend economics was the Bush Plan. Romney promises everything but has yet to explain ANYTHING about how he plans to pay for it all. He promises a huge, huge defense budget – far more than the Pentagon wants. He promises a 20% cut in taxes for everybody! He promises Romneycare – which is Obamacare without anybody to pay for it. On top of it all he promises a reduced deficit! The only programs big enough to pay for his outrageous promises are Medicare and Social Security. Do the math! How stupid do you have to be to believe this pathological liar?

Yup, a plan so good that it just wouldn't be fair to release the details. Candy and ice cream for everyone! After that, Mitt has a bridge in Brooklyn - fabulous location! great potential! - that he would like to discuss selling to you...

Huge increases to the defense budget must be matched by income. Right now the Romney/Ryan plan is not a balanced budget. Mr. Ryan is known as the mathematician but this plan does not add up.

There are certain programs which should be retained. PBS brings wonderful programming to people all across America. The quality of the programs is far better than the programs on commercial TV. The reality shows can not compete. Some of us are just not interested in housewives of whatever city, bachelors and bachelorettes, beauty contests of little girls, etc.,etc.,etc.

How many more times will Headstart have to prove its worth. The teachers are underpaid nonetheless they are dedicated and want their children to succeed. The Secretary of Education has his hand on the pulse of the nation. He has been to our state to congratulate a local middle school on the programs they have developed. He is out there working to improve all our schools.. Money plugged into education is money well spent.

The states had many opportunities to provide a good education for the children They were not always successful. If you are talking about national standards than all school systems must be on the same page. This is just not so right now.

Those of us who sent out children to public school know that parents must be involved. They must make sure that their children are prepared to go to school every day. They must read with them every night. Fun games based around education can make great family fun night games. Most parents want to do the right thing and they are willing to help their children to achieve.

The constant criticism of schools does not do much for teacher moral. These men and women dedicate their lives to the children they teach. We should not be telling them that they are overpaid, lazy, or always on vacation. It is time to support education and the teachers who are teaching our children. Do not compare them to private school teachers who have smaller classrooms and children who are not disruptive. You are denying these children an education which is equal to the one you procured for your sons at a private school even though the public schools of Belmont are very good.

What don't you understand about Mittens' math?

    Olympics = governmetn funding
Bain capital turnarounds = government subsidies
Bain failures = government picking up the pieces of raided pension funds
Massachusetts = regressive taxes and fee hikes that disproportionately hit the middle-class

Mittens likes to PRETEND that his "successes" in life were all the result of private industry and his own blood sweat and tears, but the FACTS are that he, just liek the rest of the 1%, has had a heaping helping of leg-ups from the government and used them to step on the middle-class like a step stool.

Please do not say free loaders–free-loaders are GOP idiots to take advantage of loop holes on taxes to evade taxes. Mitt paid only 12.4%, I am telling all 47% of middle class Americans. Rich evade taxes and stash money in cayman Islans, Bermuda, Swiss. These are FREE LOADERS, not middle class American. If KOCH, Mitt, DONALD TRUMP, ADELSON PAY THEIR TAXES–we do not stay in this situation,. We do not need Wars. Wars broke this nation–not education.

but, raise tax on 1%, go ahead, President, you have our blessing.

So Obama Admin is caught lying to the American people for the past month about the Benghazi attacks and yet Romney is the liar? Where is that story CNN? That should be front page news! R u kidding me? The State Dept releases statement saying there was no protest at the Embassy in Benghazi b/4 the 9/11 attacks and that it was pre-planned attack by Al Qaeda to mark the Anniversary of Sept 11th. Our Ambassador was left unprotected by this Obama Admin and nothing fr u CNN? Not mention the fact he requested more security and was turned down inspite of all the attacks at the same Embassy earlier this year!

For weeks we have been hearing this was a "spontaneous attack by demonstrators in resp. to a video". Really CNN? have you no shame? Obama spew lies and your news org. runs with it w/o question and now he has no other recourse but to finally fess up and you are burying the story? Not to mention how stupid Obama played CNN and all the liberal lame stream media. You guys were useful idiots for the Obama Admin. He feeds you guys the lies and u run with it! LOL!!! How pathetic!!! I mean the fact that it happened on Sept 11th of all other days and not a peep fr your reporter guys? No big deal right? It is just a US Ambassador who was sodomized, tortured and body dragged thru the streets of Benghazi BY AL QAEDA on Sept 11th!! – nobody important right CNN? Go ahead censor this CNN

It's NOT raising taxes. It's letting temporary tax cuts expire just like Shrub designed them to do.

Norquist is good at twisting words, and he's good at getting people to make pledges to him that over-rule their pledge to the people of the U.S.A.
