Axelrod hits Romney on $5 trillion tax cut–again

(CNN) - David Axelrod, Obama campaign senior adviser, continued to argue Mitt Romney's tax plan would cost $5 trillion, a claim that has been debunked by several fact-checking organizations, including CNN.

"What nobody disputes is that Governor Romney's proposed $5 trillion in tax cuts that would be skewed to the wealthy. What he says is, 'I'm going to offset it with $5 trillion in tax increases in the form of closed loopholes and deductions.' But he won't tell anybody what they are," Axelrod said on CNN's "Starting Point with Soledad O'Brien." "So what we know is he's got a tax cut that's going to favor the wealthy and he'll give us the details on how he's going to offset that later. And if I'm the middle class, I'm saying, 'Watch out' because we know how this ends."

Tune to CNN for Thursday's vice presidential debate coverage starting at 7 p.m. ET on CNN TV, CNN.com and via CNN's apps for iPhone, iPad and Android. Web users can become video editors with a new clip-and-share feature that allows them to share favorite debate moments on Facebook and Twitter.

Romney cannot lie away from his positions when he explicitly stated a 20% tax cut disproportionately for the rich.

Don't trust pants-on-fire Romney at all.

It will mend with Obama back in Chicago and our country returning to a prosperous nation.

President Obama stood next to Romney, Obama had the chance to dispute the $5 trillion tax cuts Romney proposes so why didn't Obama didn't dispute it? Isn't that the purpose of the debate, to dispute??????? Axelrod is just trying to scare the voters.

He's going to be hard-headed and reckless with debunked data in the final month before the election?!?! There is no time for Obama/ Biden 2012 to recover from strategic errors like this which will lose them even more credibility with American voters. Obama has enough to lose on without emphasizing his untrustworthiness. Romney/ Ryan 2012. Trustworthy.

Never one to shy away from perpetuating the same tired old lie, Axelrod and his combover are out there with the same garbage that has been proven wrong many, many times and that didn't work for Obama in the debate. The Obama campaign has shown they have absolutely no shame.

"The Tax Policy Center report concluded that Romney can’t cut tax rates 20 percent while raising the same amount of tax revenue and not increasing taxes on the middle class." From the Washington Post.

We don't know what the net loss of revenue is because mitts will not tell us what deductions (called 'loopholes' by some) he plans to eliminate, or limit. And the growth that mitts claims will result is vapor; tax cuts have never resulted in long-term growth without higher deficits. Actually, the best growth in recent years was under the higher taxes of the Clinton era.

Maybe Axelrod is trying to call romney out. Give us some facts, mitts.

Romney lives in the shadows of the details, never to be specific....a CEO whose reliance on marketing ploys have rewarded him his whole life. We the public are to be sold to by saying whatever it takes to get us to buy. That's not a description of a president!!! How many money loving, do whatever it takes, country club boys do you know that let you ride their coattails??? For how long.....

Paull Ryan is a numbers guy but yet he says he doesn't have the time to explain the numbers and he doesn't want to get to wonky on us. Fine. I don't have the time to consider your candidacy.

Our last Republican Administration gave us two wars and a deep recession. Romney's plan, at least the little he's been willing to describe, is just more of the Bush debacle. Remember Bush? He's the guy right-wingers have been hiding for nearly four years hoping people won't remember his ridiculous and dishonest administration.

Obama and Axelrod want to Re-Invent the old Soviet Union. That is where you stand in line for hours to buy something and alas when you get up to the head of the line there nothing left to buy. Obama and his minons need to find the Turnip Truck and get back aboard and depart. Let somebody that knows the ropes take charge.

Debunked as well. Maybe the liberal Tax Policy Center wants to raise taxes on the middle class, but that is not Mitt Romney's plan. Tax reform details need to involve congress, not just a Presidential candidate. Mitt Romney is absolutely correct in saying that this level of detail is inappropriate before the election. If this is all you can find to complain about, it is obvious Mitt Romney is presenting an excellent plan. Where is Obama's?

  23. GOP = Bigotry + Dishonesty

Romney won't show his tax returns because he was busted by the I.R.S., his sleazy lawyers cut a deal, he paid a fine and walked away without a public trial. This is the only logical scenario explaining why he refuses to let voters see what all other have provided. He's a pathological liar and a basically dishonest person. Just look at his serial flip-flopping!

Slowly but surely Americans are waking up to the deceipt that is the curent liberal administration. Even when proven wrong they continue to muddle the waters with lies because they cant stand on the merits of their accomplishments. We need hope and change in Obamas wake of failed policies!
