(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden and Republican challenger Paul Ryan hit the campaign trail on Friday after a combative debate in which they challenged each other's facts and claims while offering starkly different visions for the direction the country should follow.
In the lone debate between the vice presidential contenders, Biden achieved his goal of bringing the fight to his GOP foe in battling Ryan to a draw, boosting the spirits of Democrats disheartened by President Barack Obama's lackluster performance in the first presidential debate last week.

I enjoyed last night's debate. I thought both men came to play. However, the VP had the facts and the history to back them up. Ryan's attempt to bring up Reagan failed because he forgot that VP Biden was in the Senate when all the "Bipartisan work" between Tip O'Neal and Reagan was going on. On foreign policy, Ryan failed again. VP Biden has a wealth of foreign policy experience and it was on display last night. As for the drunk uncle comparisons, how many of you have really been around a drunk uncle. The VP's points were clear, understandable and factual. No drunk uncle has the kind of gravitas the VP showed last night. As for being rude, Romney wins the prize for that. Mr. 47% of American are worthless himself... Lyin' couldn't provide specifics for any of mittens' "policies", except to explain that there's "framework in place" to get it done. In other words, "we want to do this no matter how much it hurts the middle class, but we're really just flying by the seat of our pants without a real plan". I seem to recall the previous occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue's handlers & surrogates used to use the "framework" phrase everytime they had a plan to put the screws to everyone who isn't in the top 3%, and we all know how that worked out, don't we?

Typical for a conservative to try and make an issue out of a tragedy. Romney was making a fool of himself during the crisis as it developed! The President waited to allow the intelligence community to perform an analysis BEFORE declaring a conclusion. President Obama isn't like Bush – who cherry-picked intelligence data to start a war. The President has handled foreign affairs masterfully. Romney couldn't take one trip w/o angering our allies.

The debate was a turn off, martha allowing biden to constanty laughing it off at everything and interrupting paul. It was hard to hear anything. Why even have a debate if you can't hear anything?. It was fustrating. Was biden on drugs or drinking?. martha did a lousy job.

Biden acted like a coward. He tried to cut off anything Ryan had to say that might hurt Obama. It was shameful but anyone with eyes and ears knows that is standard procedure for that group. If you actually wanted to hear anything and be fair to the American people you would need a better moderator and a VP with some manners and class.
