In Ohio, Romney, Ryan cast Obama as soft on China

Youngstown, Ohio (CNN) - Republican running mates Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan sought to cast the current administration as soft on China on Saturday, blaming Democratic President Barack Obama for skipping another opportunity to label China a currency manipulator.

"Over the past several years, the president's failed to call China a currency manipulator," Romney said at a rally in Portsmouth, Ohio. "He had the occasion on Friday to come out with that official designation. Do you know what they said? We're not going to make any determination until after the election."

"Let me tell you, on day one of my administration I will label China a currency manipulator, we gotta get those jobs back and get trade to be fair," he continued.

The comments from the Republican candidates come a day after the Treasury Department announced it will hold off publishing a twice-yearly report on foreign exchange, due October 15, that often contains criticism of China's currency policies.

"The administration had their eighth chance to label China a currency manipulator," Ryan said at a separate event nearly 300 miles away from Romney, in Youngstown. "That's eight opportunities to say, 'You know what, play fair with us, trade with us fairly.'"

According to the U.S. Treasury, the report will be released after global finance officials from the G-20 leading economies meet in early November.

"We've lost hundreds of thousands of jobs, according to one study, because of just this problem. Two million jobs we've lost, according to the International Trade Commission, because of one country, China, taking our intellectual property rights, meaning taking our patents, taking our goods that we make and copying them and selling them. That's not correct. That's not right. That's cheating," Ryan said in his opening remarks at a town hall meeting in this battleground state.

Ryan misstated data from the U.S. International Trade Commission report. The 2011 report does not assign a number of lost jobs to currency manipulation by China but asserts that the tightening of intellectual property rights could lead to the creation of 2 million jobs in the United States.

The presidential campaigns have accused one another of being weak on China and both candidates have included misleading or disputed information in their television ads on the subject.

Speaking in the hard-hit manufacturing area of Ohio's Mahoning Valley, Ryan emphasized the need to increase manufacturing jobs in order to build a stronger middle class.

Nearly 300 miles southwest of Ryan, Romney said currency manipulation means "that American companies that are making these same products, they go out of business if the Chinese products are so much cheaper than the real costs behind them."

Ryan stressed the need to hold China accountable for its artificially undervalued exchange rate, a practice that negatively affects American producers.

"We are going to stop this kind of cheating from occurring," Ryan said at Youngstown State University. "That's a big deal. That takes our jobs. You have to stand up for the American manufacturing system. Giving good speeches, you know, saying the right thing, that sounds good, but getting it done is what matters."

Romney / Ryan the Lyin' Kings.

These two guys would be at war with Iran and China in a second.

These two guys know nothing about foreign policy.

Romney / Ryan are very dangerous.

Mr. Romney is not quite being truthful here. His companies were dealing with China and he himself made statements about how wonderful this grading would be. Like everything else he is now changing is his story to meet his campaign statements.

He and Mr. Ryan do not even consider the most important issue which is the war and the number of casualties. While they amass their huge fortunes and their PACs amass their huge fortunes our men and women who are serving or who have served are not on anyone's radar except Joe Biden. He may have his faults but he is so right about these men and women. WE owe them such a debt and we should be making sure that all their needs have been met. We should insist that there medical care be the best there is. For those who have now left their service to return home are they receiving all our support. We did not have to sacrifice anything, not even a candy bar, while these men and women sacrificed so much. This presidential race is all about money = the amount being raised and spent, the economy which is probably not getting a boost from all this campaign spending, the profits that banks, corporations, and investors can make. When do the candidates talk about their sacrifices so that those in the lower 46% and our men and women in the service will have jobs, medical care, and the training and education they will need to return to the workforce.

Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan have not sacrificed at all. They have the very best of everything. Think about that when we vote. Just who should be the winners. We can and we should do better.

Romney has no shame. He's been on every side of every issue, and he doesn't seem to be the least bit embarrased about the nonsense that comes out of his mouth. I'm a good Christian, and I was taught that lying is a sin, but apparently Mormonism doesn't regard it as such, since there doesn't appear to be a single Mormon who has expressed any alarm at the huge prevarications that Mitt tosses around on a daily basis.

CNN: How about covering the breaking story about the Sensata plant in Illinois. A plant picked clean and sent overseas to where? China! Who was responsible for this loss of jobs to China? Bain! Who has holdings in Bain? Romney! Is this the economy we want?

Soft come on now how can the guy be soft on China. when he called out China. Mr Romney is soft on paying his fair share of taxes soft on honesty soft on full disclosure – soft on off shore banking – soft on Swiss bank account – soft on avoiding the Vietnam war, soft on fair debate and without interuptions. During the vice presidential debate Mr Ryan was full on distorting the truth but why did he move his head periodically in circular motion what's up with that he would not be a good poker player not with matters of the world with world leaders and such. Mr Romney and Mr Ryan I believe the American people will elect you because you found the Bush template which is look in their eyes and do not tell them the truth and you will win unless the voters ask you to put YOUR PORMISES in writing or make you disclose what your plans are and not accept the remark that Mr Ryan and you have been given that you will not make a plan without congress so I ask you then WHAT ARE YOU RUNNING ON WHAT ARE YOU BRINGING TO THE TABLE. YOU HAVE AGREED WITH OBAMA ON FOREIGN POLICY BUT WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AT HOME IT IS THE ECONOMY YOU ARE RUNNING ON WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS. I know wink wink – call your buddy the Koch brothers and their 32 millionaire friends and ask them to release the economy they have been hold hostage because they will ruin themselves and free the American economy for prosperity and good if Mr Obama wins a second term.

Obama depends on China to lend us the money he is spending. His thinking was made clear when he bowed down to the Chinese leaders. His goal for America obviously requires lenders. One of Bin Laden's goals was to ruin us financially.
Is it possible a former Muslim is purposely trying to do that?

HA HA HA! A currency manipulator, for someone who hides money in offshore accounts to avoid taxes, won't show his tax returns or disclose his tax plan details, like loopholes he would close to the American people & has outsourced countless jobs to China! Boy, the American People will buy anything, I guess.

But yet Romney will increase the H1-B Visa SCAM quota that allows overpaid tech execs to lie about the lack of STEM professionals in America so they can flood the tech market with less educated non-Americans (particulary highly funded lobbied Indian outsourcing) to lower tech wages. Obama is sadly just as bad stating to keep the quota the same. END THE H1-B VISA SCAM NOW!

Romney is an expert at Chinese business, he's been doing "business" with them from years! Ask Romney to disclose his ownership share in SENSATA! He stands to make millions of dollars laying off American workers and outsourcing jobs to China. Report on that CNN!

Romney needs to have his maths examined. It is virtually impossible to cut 5 trillion dollars in taxes and not raise taxes on the middle class. Even if he takes away all the deductions from the rich, he will be short trillions of dollars. So he will have to take away important deductions from the middle class and reduce their tax free threshold standard deduction which will result in increasing taxes on the overburdened middle-class.
Romney in Ohio today continues his etching and sketching on taxation and other strategic issues of national importance.

Both parties have had an abysmal record in dealing with China. Democrats talk a good show about job fairness, etc. but do nothing about it. Republicans don't even talk. It's refreshing to see a presidential candidate at least taking on the issue. If as president he acts on it that would be a tremendous boost to our job growth.

Romney will say anything people want to hear to get elected. If he does, watch out he'll turn this country into crap exactly as he did in Mass. He said anything to be Governor. Education was 47th in the country by cutting teachers. He also made our streets dangerous by cutting aid to cities and towns who had to lay off cops & firefighters. He also increased fees for everything at least 8 times during his watch. He is NOT for the people.

I agree. Obama is making a mistake by letting China unfairly manufacture all our goods in China- with unfair trade practices as the core reason they can dominate us.
I over spent on a patriotic shirt at the Independence Hall Visitors Center in Philly, PA yesterday and I bought a sleeping bag made in Alabama today. So, American manufactures… keep trying until our government figures out the right course!!!

We can't forget that Romney sent thousands of American jobs to China, and destroyed thousands of American families in the process. Ryan and Romney are counting on short memories, and stupidity. I don't believe America will buy their lies.

These dumb voters have to know that gone are the days when America could be "hard" on any country. Nobody will listen to America anymore since they are all getting better than America. I cannot believe Romney-Ryan are so out of touch of the facts and do not understand the complications of ruling america currently.
