Romney mailer vows to protect health care 'choice'

Richmond, Virginia (CNN) - The message on the front of the brochure looks like something Planned Parenthood might send out to potential supporters.

"It's your health," reads a strip of bolded text, placed just above an ominous-looking photo of two doctors in scrubs, shot from the perspective of an operating table. "Shouldn't it be your choice?"

But this isn't a mailer from abortion rights supporters or President Obama's re-election campaign. It's a new mail piece in Virginia from Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, an abortion opponent.

The choice on the table this November, the inside of the brochure argues, is a choice between government-run "Obamacare" that will stunt job creation and raise taxes, and "real, patient-centered reform" that will give states and patients more freedom and flexibility.

"Barack Obama puts government's well-being before Virginia's health," reads the mailer, which was received this week by a voter in Richmond and provided to CNN. "Mitt Romney believes it's your choice."

The back side of the mailer quotes Romney from his press conference after the Supreme Court upheld Obama's health care reform law.

"This is a time of choice for the American people," he said at the time. "If we're going to get rid of Obamacare, we're going to have to replace President Obama. My mission is to make sure we do exactly that."

CNN analysts are biased and GOP supporters. The likes of David Gergen (A beneficiary of Bain Capital), John King a diehard GOP over the years. They shape their analysis hoping that voters are stupid.Nov 6 they will wake up to a shock. Obama/Biden will get to 271 electoral votes easily.

Romney's plan to grow the economy is to work with Dems in congress. What about if the Dems decide they don’t want to work with him to make him a one term president! How will his plans then work? Just running the mouth claiming working bi-partisan will grow the economy is not a strategy it’s based on a false reality. We need specifics not rhetoric.

Thanks Mitt. I love having a choice between all the insurance companies that band together to ensure I'm being as ripped off as possible.

Most people get their coverage through their employer and those that don't have to shop out there, on their own with whatever costs may be and pre-existing condtions they may have. Good luck with that. Under Obamacare, both groups win. And to those who say their premiums have gone up under Obamacare, it is not the cause. Insurers are raising rates while they can. The mandate doesn't go into effect until 2014. What you're witnessing is insurer greed.

Who cares? I don't trust anything that Romney says. He can't seem to stay in one place, and I don't believe he would keep his word on anything. At lease Obama make a concience effort to keep his promises.

Romney will give you the same choice that Ford gave to car buyers: you can have a car with any color, as long as it is black. You can choose private insurance, as long as you pay more out of your pocket. You can do that now. What if you cannot afford private insurance? You can choose not to have healthcare.

This situation would in fact be VERY funny, if the results were not so tragic. Look, Mr. Romney's one accomplishment that actually helped average people was his MA. Healthcare overhaul, and now he is saying he will undo the ACA, essentially it will be better for millions of Americans to "go to hospital ERs" (as he says) when they can no longer afford healthcare insurance.

This lie- that somehow allowing healthcare to become affordable only by the very rich, is somehow a "choice" for average Americans shows just how perverted the Republican position on healthcare is.

Mr. Romney has had no change of heart- he still hates anyone who isn't rich.

I, like many employed Americans, really don't have a choice about my health care. I have to pick from the options my company has chosen for the year. In my case, it is either a traditional BCBS plan or a BCBS HMO, The employer determines what coverage will be provided. Thankfully, my employer is a good one and my health care plan coverages almost any issues. I do pay between $20 and $50 co pay for prescriptions, a $30 copay for doctor visits and a sbustantial deductible. Having worked in the health care industry for 30+ years, I don't see much change in how insurers treat patients. We need good, basic health care (including mental health coverage) for all of our citizens. What do the Republicans propose? I have been waiting for literally years to hear a plan from them that does not enrich insurance companies. The Affordable Health Care plan is not the final answer but it is a start and can be built on.

Please do not fall for this. The Republicans do not support a woman's right to choose to make her own decisions about her reproductive rights. Women should be able to make these decisions without interference from politicians, demonstrators out side clinics, outsiders from any groups and from the men in Congress.

We do not tell men they cannot use Viagra or any other drug to enhance their abilities. . WE do not tell men what they can and cannot do about their reproductive organs nor do we tell them they can only use their sperm for reproduction. Why do men think they can tell us what to do. Whether we are anti-abortion or pro-choice we need to stick up for a person's right to decide.

Just remember that the Republicans would like to make medicare a voucher program. There are many seniors who would not be able to do this and we are putting them in jeopardy by even suggesting this. The insurance companies would be in the driver's seat and they are no know for their generosity. Ask any patient who has had to fight to get insurance companies to pay for treatments and preventive measures.

We need to make sure that social security remains as the program it is. If there is a problem with money I am sure that those who have given millions to the pacs supporting Mr. Romney would be willing to give to social security to give it a boost. These pacs are spending millions and flooding the air waves and we do not even know where their money is coming from. Stand up and be counted.

What a bunch of bilge! Romney doesn't want the 'government' to be in charge of your healthcare, but has no problem letting the insurance companies be in charge? Insurance companies are the ones who deny coverage to people with pre-conditions, who charge women more for the same care, who kick you off coverage when it starts to impact on their profits. U.S. is the only 'civilized' country that allows healthcare to be a for profit enterprise.

I am so sick of seeing 95% of the political headlines on CNN being Romney/Ryan. where is the news in reporting their daily schedule, what Romney had for lunch, how much weight Ryan can bench press. etc.? ISSUES CNN! and trying to justify Romney changing his mind every week or how many polls are taken to increase the hype is NOT IT!

So, lets go back to preexisting conditions like acne or pregnancy. Let's drop 7 million children from their parents insurance, lets rip that donut hole back open forcing seniors to choose between food or medicine. Lets let the system devolve into arbitrary and capricious rules in various states. Lets sit by while massively expensive E.R. visits blow up overall charges for everyone and let costs skyrocket to pay exorbitant CEO pay and unnecessary advertising. And let's just pay twice as much as every other country for half the service and let 45,000 people die annually for lack of health care. Thank you, Mr. Romney, for that wonderful choice!

No one can really afford ObamaCare. We have to have another option. health care family costs have already risen $3000. per yr. with costs projected to rise another 2500 by the time the law takes full effect, and that doesn't even consider the huge increase in deductibles that the individual now has to pay on top of the insurance costs.
