Romney to give spending, deficit speech Friday

(CNN) – Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will deliver a speech on government spending and the deficit on Friday, a source familiar with the speech said Saturday.

Romney has hammered President Barack Obama over government spending, the federal deficit, and national debt repeatedly, on the campaign trail, in ads, and at the first presidential debate.

"The amount of debt we're adding, at a trillion a year, is simply not moral," he said at the first debate.

"The president said he'd cut the deficit in half. Unfortunately, he doubled it," Romney said. "Trillion-dollar deficits for the last four years. The president's put it in place, as much public debt - almost as much debt held by the public - as all prior presidents combined."

A CNN/ORC International poll found two-thirds of debate-watchers thought Romney won. Of people who watched the debate, 55% thought Romney would handle the economy better than Obama (who scored 43%), and a majority of debate-watchers thought Romney would better handle the deficit, too - 57% to 41%.

The source did not say where Friday's speech will be and refused to speak on the record because the speech has not been publicly announced.

Several weeks ago, CNN chief political analyst Gloria Borger reported Romney’s campaign was considering scheduling several key speeches on various topics, as aides tried to refocus the campaign and as it tried to sharpen Romney’s differences with Obama. On Monday, the GOP candidate delivered a major foreign policy speech criticizing the Obama administration.

    My gut instinct tells me Romney/Ryan's hands will be tied on day one because they have made their commitment to big money donors and that will increase the deficit. I don't trust a word coming from his mouth, I'd rather hear the truth coming from his big money donors.

    =======================

    Romney will have to explain how he will pay for his massive tax cuts. Planned Parenthood and Big Bird won't cut it. Bush already tried that.

    truth hurts-

    There you go again- who brought up Big Bird in the last debate? Who claimed that getting rid of NPR/PBS (which is less than 0.0001% of the federal budget) would balance the budget and allow a $2 trillion increse in Defense spending?
    Your candidate can't add! His plan doesnt balance the budget and he got caught lying yet again. Pathetic!

    Even if you only isolate debt held by the public as Romeny tries to do here it still .has not doubled under this adminsitration. I know he is doing this because he got nailed on the fact check sites for saying total debt had doubled, when it was half that much but even just picking out "public" debt it still has not doubled. Also, of the last four years that had trillion dollar deficits, one of them was Bush's. The CBO said we were already on track for a 1.186 trillion dollar deficit before Obama took office. Since we can't cut spending or raise taxes in a recession, we hav been stuck with it until now. But romney only proposes more tax cuts and increasing spending for defense – so that certainly does not cut deficits even if he majically finds a way to pay for his tax cuts though cutting deductions – then we simply end up right where we started. Besides – how does being deficit neutral grow an economy if you belive that cutting revenue grows and economy? If you are claiming no actual revenue will be cut – so it won't hurt the deficit and debt-then how is this a plan to grow jobs? How does it decrese the deficitespecially when you are also in creasing spening -Makes no sence.

    The man who has off-shore accounts and money in the Swiss banks is now going to tell us about the economy. We need him to tell us why he supported the idea to move jobs overseas and the idea for outsourcing. If your job went overseas then you should be out in force asking him to explain this.

    Bain handled mergers and take-overs of companies large and small. Mr. Romney touts his business sense yet he and his company helped many to lost their jobs. They did nothing to get them new ones or to provide training for these employees to find new jobs.

    HE is not going to be much different as president. He and Ryan will create budgets that will not be helpful to the 47%. They are not for fair wages or for any worker rights. We will go backwards and not forwards and the employees will suffer and certainly not the owners and shareholders.

    Romoney is a sad and painful joke.
    He wants you to trust him because he;
    has business experience?
    has a MBA from Harvard?
    is a religious man?
    he was a Governor?
    he wants to put the conservative agenda into national policy?
    he claims to not want to increase the size of government?

    We had all of that under Bush – and look how horribly Bush screwed up our country.
    Insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different out come – insanity is anybody voting for the GOP.

    lance – The President is the only one that is talking seriously about the debt and unemployment, and illegal immigration is at record lows, and deportations are at record highs. Since you low-info, low-intellect right-wingers don't deal in facts and reality, you'll remain in your delusional world of fiction believing everything Fox News spews out. Rick Santorum said the GOP will never attract smart voters, it's clear he was honest about that fact.

    truth hurts – Romney a "real leader"? Do you know how stupid that comment is? Rodney won't take a stand on ANYTHING. He is nothing but a draft-dodging tax-cheat, a puppet for the extreme right-wing.

    Romney is a shape-shifting politician who was a "severe" conservative in the Republican primary and a Massachusetts moderate at the debate. He is a used car salesman who is peddling the same old Bush policies (more tax cuts, less regulations) that were not working under Bush.

    I remember the Bush/Gore debates and how Bush was promising the world and not giving an ounce of detail as to how he would do it.He was just throwing stuff out there and knew many would bite. Mitt has a bunch of former Bush advisors and he's following the same game plan to a T! Mitt is Bush on steroids, and God help us if this empty suit gets to the WH!

    Expect more of the same trickle down economics. Bleed the middle class dry to lower taxes for the rich. Romney hates the 47% and favors the 1%.

    Trillion dollar deficits are what you get Mr. Romney when you cut taxes and keep pumping money into needless and useless wars. Speaking of immoral, pleae explain how you will cut the deficit by cutting taxes another 20% and increasing the defense budget. What America would get is a repeat of Bush/Cheney which ran up the deficitit the first place.
