Springsteen to rock the campaign trail

(CNN) – Two very high profile surrogates will be campaigning for President Barack Obama in the crucial battleground states of Ohio and Iowa next week.

The Obama campaign announced Saturday morning that former President Bill Clinton and rock star Bruce Springsteen will team up in Parma, Ohio on Thursday to stump for the president.

Later on Thursday, Springsteen will appear in Ames, Iowa, the campaign said.

Clinton, meanwhile, will continue on to an event in Steubenville, Ohio.

"Bruce Springsteen's values echo what the President and Vice President stand for: hard work, fairness, integrity," Obama campaign manager Jim Messina said in a statement. "His appearances will help with our get out the vote effort in these critical swing states and we are thrilled with his ongoing support."

Springsteen appeared, and performed, at rallies in 2004 for Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, that year's Democratic presidential nominee, and in 2008 for Obama. But he had said as late last month that he wouldn't be performing in the 2012 election.

The appearance of the former president is no surprise though. He's been a very high profile surrogate for Obama this year.

Both campaigns have been spending a lot of time and money battling for Ohio's 18 electoral votes.

Ohio was the state that put President George W. Bush over the top in his 2004 re-election. Four years later Obama carried the state by five points over Sen. John McCain. But the Republicans performed well in the Buckeye state in the 2010 midterm elections, winning back the governor's office and five House seats from the Democrats.

A new CNN Poll of Polls that averages the three non-partisan, live operator surveys in Ohio conducted entirely after the first presidential debate indicates a very close contest, with Obama at 50% among likely voters and Romney at 47%.

Iowa has six electoral votes and went for Obama in 2008 and Bush in 2004. Polling conducted before the first presidential debate showed a close race there with a slight advantage for Obama.

It's funny when you look at the sad handful of D-list celebs that Romney has. Bruce is The Boss and poor Chris Christie must be crying on the floor.

Please America, don't let Fip Flop Mitt and Lyin' Ryan take this country back to the Bush years.

Too bad, Bruce, that you're using your art for political concern.

    --–

Dear Karl , Art is the creative expression of the cause and effect of our time. Art has always been political , and great art mirrored great change.

You would have said the same about Woody Guthrie or Nina Simone. Just sing pretty songs !

I don't think Ryan, Romney , Christie ever listen to the lyrics of the songs they think are cool.

  6. ThinkAgain: Hey, networks, fact-check the debates in real-time and put it in the crawl!

Take a look at history and you'll see that our nation fares better under Democratic administrations than Republican ones. Why? Because Democrats enact policies that enable Americans across the WHOLE economic spectrum to rise, not just the top 1%.

BTW, the top 1% have seen their share of American wealth increase from 8% of the total in 1979 to 20% by 2010. During that same time period, middle income Americans have seen their worth remain relatively flat. Another interesting factoid: The top 1% has enjoyed 93% of the gains during the 2009-2010 recovery.

This figure is from a recent study by economists Emmanuel Saez and Thomas Piketty who also found that the top 0.01% captured 37% of the total recovery pie: their incomes rebounded more than 20%, which amounts to an additional $4.2 million each.

President Obama, whose policies have resulted in 32 straight months of private sector job growth, is the right choice in November. Bruce understands this, President Clinton understands this, anyone with a working brain understands this.

    Obama/Biden 2012 = The only sane choice

@Detroit Grey Panther: "Wake up blue colar. There are three groups that dominate the democrat-socialist agenda.
They are the Ivey League Illetists, the Media [ print and TV news], and the Art and Entertainment Egomainiacs.
None of them have EVER done a real days work."

Which Ivy League university did you go to/what was your degree? Ever work as a journalist, in particular in a war zone? Ever see a Bruce Springsteen show or wake up at 4am for a movie shoot and wrap at 9pm?

Lastly, if "Blue" voters are so darned lazy, then why is it that the poorest states (who take more federal dollars than they pay) with the lowest literacy rates and the highest drop-out rates and the lowest per-capita income are RED?

    Obama/Biden 2012 = The only sane choice

@Larry L: "@"If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." –B. Obama"

Larry, grow a pair and watch President Obama's COMPLETE statement, not just the clip Fox has shown you to further their agenda of lies.

President Obama was referring for the need for investment in infrastructure, which businesses do NOT build themselves. Our federal and local dollars provide the infrastructure (roads, bridges, sea ports, airports, dams, electric grids, water treatment, public schools which produce educated workers and consumers, etc., etc., etc.) – and without this, businesses in America would never have succeeded as well as they have.

Don't believe me? Go live in a third-world country like I have and experience for yourself what society looks like without this kind of support from the government.

THAT'S what President Obama was talking about – and like I said, grow a pair, watch the clip for yourself and most important, START THINKING FOR YOURSELF!

    Obama/Biden 2012 = The only sane choice

    @Michigander: Bruce is a dinosaur?

"The Boss scored his tenth No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 this week with his latest album, Wrecking Ball, selling an impressive 196,000 copies. In doing so, Springsteen matched Elvis’ record of ten number ones, making them the only two male solo rock artists to ever achieve the feat." (From EW online. BTW, Bruce's album knocked off Adele's album "21" from the top spot.)

Bruce has sold 121+ million records worldwide, having released his first album in 1973.

Not too shabby for a "dinosaur" ...!

Bruce is a disgrace. All he does is YELL when he's on stage and now he's trying to tell people how to vote. What a crime this country has come to. People can't be kind, considerate nor are they allowed to think for themselves. It's people like him that started turning this country upside down. What happened to repsect, authority, and leadership? Bring back America!!!!! The 50's really were a whole lot better than what's on the table today. Gas has more than doubled since Barack is in office. He wants to do away with coal and put people out of work. What about the pipe line he rejected and how about his abuse of the Executive Power? Think folks, bring back America. Vote straight Republican. Republican ticket this time folks, wherever you live!!!!

fernace- "the president is for all Americans" Surely you jest; he views EVERYONE that disagrees with his Socialist policies as the ENEMY and comdemns them to the "back of the bus". As he told Republicans in a very rare meeting with them, " I WON".

So the guy who gets a tax break for his "organic farm" just like Bon Jovi wants to support the guy who wants to tax the rich. Why doesn't Bon Jovi and all the Hollywood types just pay more taxes. Why do they have to wait. Since 2008 I no longer support Bruce and I was a huge fan. He stepped in and last concert I went to he was horrible. Old man trying to act young. It was horrible to watch. Also anyone who could watch Biden and support him is so foolish. Acting like the American people didn't deserve to hear a debate.

I never liked any of his music as it is. Sure will switch channels a little faster now any time any of his music comes on. Between Hollywood, Media, and Crappy Rock Stars; these are some of the Most uninformed, out of touch, Never-ran their-own-Real-business-before-folks there is. If you Vote for Anybody they endorse, then you are some Lost Puppies. I do not like any Professional Politician and that is what we mostly have nowadays. But I have to go with the lesser of the Two Evils until they come up with a New Party that makes since and that is not Union,Big Business/Corporate or any other Special Interest Group Backed. Springsteen is going to do his part to extend Obama's Glory Days! Convinced that he was Born in the USA, Springsteen, a champion of working class Americans, is taking Thunder Road to the Badlands of Ohio where he'll represent Obama's bid for a second term. Obama was "Born to Run" said Springsteen. Rosalita, a close friend of Springsteen's, will be getting out the Latino vote on behalf of the Obama/Biden ticket! Obama was thrilled to have the rocker's support, stating "I'm on Fire" with Ohio voters! When asked why he's supporting Obama, Springsteen said "We Take Care of Our Own. I've got to do my part to push back the Darkness of the Edge of Town. If people keep listening to Romney, we'll all just keep Dancing in the Dark. Ann Romney needs to get out of her Pink Cadillac and spend some time with America's working class. This is the Land of Hope and Dreams" he said. Obama was clear that We're Working on a Dream and if we want to win, we have to mobilize the vote, from the Streets of Philadelphia to Atlantic City and throughout the American Land. Biden was clear: "We just can't let this Republican ticket give the middle class another Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out!"

Democrats have seen Obama's lead dwindle of late and are anxious to get the campaign back on track. They're confident that their Hungry Heart will lead to victory on November 6th. Get out and VOTE!!!

Bruce is a class act; no pretensions.

mitts' boy, Kidd rock, was in Atlanta a year or so back; got arrested in a Waffle House brawl at 2 or 3 in the morning, That's the kind of 'class' mitts and Anne represent. (No reflection intended against Waffle House. Or their general clientele.)

  24. The Boss Rocks the Vote

For all of you haters who claim that Bruce is a "dinosaur", or "washed up" or "lazy", get a clue before you post your poison here. Over the last 4 decades, no rock musician has had more albums, sold-out concerts (both domestic and international), worked harder, or donated more time and money to charitable efforts than The Boss. Go to one of his shows and watch him take his shirt off at intermission and wring his sweat out of it if you think he's not working hard. Look up his history of charitable giving, from 10s of thousands of dollars to Vietnam Veteran groups, to promoting food pantries and shelters during his concerts. If you think he's washed-up, check out his output over the last ten years – he's had more success (albums and concerts) than Kid Rock and Nugent combined over that time. This is a man who had been passionate about helping struggling people for his entire musical career. Maybe you don't agree with his politics, but you can't deny that he not only talks the talk, but walks the walk. The man is a modern marvel!

Bruce Springsteen's values echo what the President and Vice President stand for: HARD WORK, fairness, integrity,"-

Not so sure about the Hard work portion of that statement...That is the problem with the democratic party today... they want to give people things based on skin color, gender, and sexual orientation- anything but hard work...
