Romney not taking in 'The View'

(CNN) – After criticizing chat program "The View" on a secretly recorded video, and subsequently agreeing to come on the show, Mitt Romney has cancelled his upcoming appearance citing scheduling conflicts.

Barbara Walters, the show's creator and co-host, announced the news Monday.

"Gov. Romney was supposed to be on with us this Thursday with Ann Romney," she said. "We were looking forward to it. Over the weekend, his people said that he had scheduling problems and would not be coming on with us. Nor at this point did he feel that he could reschedule. We are happy to have Mrs. Romney on with us. We are sorry that we won't have Gov. Romney."

She left the invitation open, however, saying "he can change his mind and we hope he does. It would be our pleasure to have him on the program."

Amanda Henneberg, a Romney campaign spokeswoman, said the GOP nominee's appearance "was no longer going to work in the campaign schedule, but Mrs. Romney is very excited to join the ladies of The View."

At a surreptitiously recorded campaign fund-raiser in May, Romney called the ABC morning talk show "high risk," pointing to the political affiliations of the co-hosts. Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and Sherri Shepherd have all expressed decidedly liberal standpoints, though Elisabeth Hasselbeck is an outspoken conservative.

"'The View' is high risk because of the five women on it. The other four are sharp tongued and not conservative, Whoopi Goldberg in particular," Romney told donors in Boca Raton, Florida earlier in the summer, adding "Although the last time I was on the show, she said to me, 'You know what? I think I could vote for you.' And I said, 'I must have done something really wrong.'"

Soon after the release of the video Hasselbeck announced on the show that Romney had agreed to appear on "The View" couch in October. Romney's previous appearance on "The View" was in 2010.

Romney also said in the video he's also staying away from the comedy show "Saturday Night Live" "because you want to show that you are fun and you're a good person, but you also want to appear presidential."

If he goes on The View, he might get questioned aBout his AMNESTY.

    i) Romney closed ONLY his Swiss UBS Account, not Caymans or Bermuda or Luxembourg.

    ii) Romney closed the UBS account during the time required to receive amnesty;

    iii) Romney omitted from his public disclosure of his 2010 returns the specific information about the UBS account;

iv) Romney took six extra months to prepare his 2011 returns, disclosing them in the countdown to the election, whereas he could have disclosed 2009 immediately with 2010, getting all that bad news out at once, during the primary, so that it would be ancient history by now. That is strong evidence that 2009, that would have shown the amnesty with flashing lights, was too toxic.

@ Thomas – how did Mitt's son's "avoid volunteering for the military?" Are you conscious that we don't have a draft? Are you suggesting that Chelsea Clinton or the O girls are going to volunteer for the military?

Has Michelle and Barrack sat down with Rush Limbaugh?
Then why would Ann and Mitt sit down with "The View"??

I guess O will fill the empty slot now. I hear that he is looking for more kids shows or soft TV interviews while his entire foreign and domestic policy is unraveling. I hear he has practiced some new jokes and plans on doing his jaunty little jog back and forth on the stage for about 20 minutes.

Good those ladies don't deserve the time of the day from Romney.. Good for him. It's already known that they don't like him so why invite him?? So they can behave like a bunch of coyotes and snarl and attack him. Rather than treat anyone w/respect regardless if their views differ from someone else's they choose to make fools of themselves thinking in the process that they are doing something so great. I don't watch this show and probably never will. So u viewers of the view enjoy this ridiculous show. Even with Ann Romney on it, I will not watch but I will pray they treat her with respect no matter what Mrs. Romney's views are and act like intelligent women with polite behavior.

Oh no, he might have to talk with sharp-tongued people who hold opposing views. Think how he would do speaking with opposing heads of state...

Who Cares, why in the world would Obama sit down with Rush, he's been talking crap about this Man since his 1st day in office. Do the ladies on the View talk about Mitt Romney every single day, every single topic with PURE hatred. NO. But I don't care if Romney goes on the view or not. Thats his choice.

"sharp tongued and not conservative"... Think how he would do squaring up against foreign heads of state if the 4 women of The View scare him.

What a wimp. He won't go on any show unless it's spoon-fed, preapproved friendly conversation.

Another excuse. Only Mitt wants to appear presidential and does not want to these shows. Good president
like Bill Clinton went on these shows, Bush went these shows.

I do not recall one single time that the president ever appeared on Fox.

    -------
You sure fit in with Willard's supporters. Not able to remember and refuse to recall.

The president appeared on O'Reilly's show even after O'Reilly stated our FLOTUS probably needed to be lynched. Something most men would not have done in a million years. Willard is a punk.

The big difference between President Obama and Mitt is that OUR President reaches out to 100% of the people.

Mitt reaches out to the 1%, his buddies, and feeds BS to the rest of us hoping we'll buy his latest and greatest talking point.

Why anyone would think he'd be better for this country then the slow and steady RECOVERY that our President has put forth is beyond me.

If the Republicans had worked with Obama from the beginning, just think how much further along we'd be. Nothing short of treason indeed. Issa should hold a hearing.

"Romney made a good call".......that's not the call he made. He had committed to go on the show, and then backed out after his derogatory comments became known. That's not "a good call", that's a flip-flopping coward in action.

So Romney is too scared to go on "The View," but he'd be really tough in dealing with China, Iran, Russia, North Korea, etc. Whatever you say, Mittens.

He would not know how to conduct himself. And he wouldn't have anyone there to tell him what to say.

"Oh no, he might have to talk with sharp-tongued people who hold opposing views."

Romney and Ryan do that everytime they do an interview with the liberal media lol.

BTY, the first time President Obama was on stage with "sharp-tongued people who hold opposing views" was with Gov Romney in the first debate....how'd that work out for the President ???

Nov. 6th can't come fast enough.
