(CNN) - Michelle Obama and Ann Romney's dresses drew attention at Tuesday's presidential debate first for their color, and second for the statement they may have made.
While their husbands clashed spectacularly onstage, Obama's and Romney's dresses bore more in common than one might expect of people with their two last names.

Both showed up in vibrant pink - which is the color of the breast cancer awareness effort, and October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
President Barack Obama may have been in on the occasion, too. His suit was black, shirt was white, and tie was red, but tucked up his right sleeve was a pink wristband. He wore the wristband at a campaign event on Wednesday, and in early October, issued a proclamation saying in October "we honor those we have lost, lend our strength to those who carry on the fight, and pledge to educate ourselves and our loved ones about this tragic disease."
Michelle Obama wore her knee and sleeved length pink dress with a matching pink jacket and a pearl necklace. An Obama campaign official said the color was in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Ann Romney topped her short-sleeved dress with an emerald necklace. She is a survivor of early stage breast cancer.
A spokeswoman for Romney's campaign did not return CNN's request for comment on whether Ann Romney's wardrobe selections were a nod to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
But some on social media weighed in regardless.
Anisa Cottrell Willis wrote on Facebook, "Among the scandals of last night....the First Lady and Ms Romney in the exact same color Barbie pink dresses."
If you guys didn't notice. #Obama had a #breastcancer awareness bracelet on. You could hardly see it.But I did lol. Support cancer victims

Will the two spouses sport similar shades in the same room again? They'll have an opportunity next Monday, at the third presidential debate in Boca Raton, Florida.

"Ann Romney topped her short-sleeved dress with an emerald necklace."
Apparently, she suffers from color blindness as well. What a tragedy.
She is lik slaughted what happened about fraud check scam ??????? I know that afrcian amercian are keep playing games with fraud check scam.
And new housing is up for the first time in four years.
Romney = GW Bush , deferent time .
Did you notice the disappointment on Mrs. Romney's face immediately following the debate? The verbal beat down Mitt took from Karl Rove for last night's performance was probably nothing compared to the punishment issued by his wife.
If I was the interior designer, I'd cash Ann's retainer check as soon as possible.
the first lady looks good in pink. Anne looked like a tired barbie. The president wore his braclet in honor of breast cancer patients Romney wore a snarkey expression.
No woman likes to dress like another woman (even if it is for a cause) but since I love fashion, I have to admit, this is the only area Ann Romney scored in. I did not like Michelle's dress last night, but I certainly liked the person in it much more than the angry want-to-be with the NON military sons.
Anne Romney will make such a great First Lady.
Michelle rocked it. Ann not so much.
'Romney wore a snarkey expression."
Child molester smile.
MIchelle look a million times better than ann romney, which is what ann's dress probably cost. The First Lady always looks so glamours and classy that's because she is. ann romeny look like the old hag she is, someone should have comb her hair before she got in front of the camera's
Queen Ann looked like she wanted to slap a servant after Mitt's performance at the debate.
A picture says a thousand words. The two women had different expressions that is for sure.
Lady Ann looks as though she stepped in a pile of Mitt. Nice picture.
You are all so rude. Ann Romney looked beautiful. They both looked great. Cancer and your attire have no place in politics. Don't be so hateful.
@Stronmom: "You are all so rude. Ann Romney looked beautiful. They both looked great. Cancer and your attire have no place in politics. Don't be so hateful."
Well said but most of these folks are just upset because Mr. Obama won't be President next year. They are in stage one of depression; denial
Miss Ann did look tired, this is the only and hardest job she's ever had and guess what, it only gets harder and more demanding. Miss Ann is not as young and certainly not as physically fit as FLOTUS and that's no fault of hers, but she did have a nice dress.
Critical Stinker:
Anne Romney will make such a great First Lady.

She too sickly to be the FLOTUS. Besides, Michelle loves helping the Military and she is a looks great in clothes.

"They are in stage one of depression; denial"
My god, you can't even get that right. Go wiki the stages, what they refer to and get it right next time. Sigh.
Wow, hating on the spouses of candidates. Anyone who does it has absolutely nothing to offer here. Both women have to put up with a lot while their husbands fight it out. Both women are under a tremendous amount of stress and are handling it well. Both women are better people than anyone on this message board. Both women deserve our respect.
@truth hurts – The people of Wisconsin have first hand experience with how sound Republican financial management can turn a state around.
-------------------------------–
Yup they sure do... Republican financial management has done to Wisconsin as it did to the country – trashed it. Turned it around from a going concern to a massive failure. I do not want more Republican policies like those of WI and TX.
In TX the comptroller (an "R") recently released a report lamenting the HUGE increase in Debt than MOST of the municipalities in TX have taken on in the last 10 yrs. PUBLIC debt at the local level - including community colleges, municipalities, school districts, etc. - has more than doubled in the last decade from $87 billion in 2001 to $193 billion in 2011.
Gee.. guess which Party was running all these public facilities and spending irresponsibly during the last 10 yrs??
Clue anyone? TX is a Red state.. no it was not the Democrats !
Where can I get one of Romney's binders full of women?
Pink being one of my favorite colors, I liked both dresses. However Queen Anne always has this snotty look on her face. It's like her nose is so far in the air, if it rains she will surely drown. But Mrs. Obama has the body type that almost anything looks good on her. Queenie, not so much.
@ OCCaVoter: "she too sickly to be the FLOTUS. Besides, Michelle loves helping the Military and she is a looks great in clothes."
-----------------------------------------------------
Pretty shallow observation and comment but what would I expect from someone who would vote based upon clothing. BTW, the emperiors new clothes look great don't they. I'm presuming that this reference is somewhat above your understanding, you mightwant to as an 8 year old for some help.
Are these women in MR. BINDER'S CLOSET........hee...heee...heeeee!!!!!
I have a question. So all of these middle class people writing comments in favor of Mitt Romney do not care that he has lied in two debates (this has been proven over and over again on videotapes, transcripts, independent fact checkers, etc.) and on the campaign trail..........they do not care that they will lose their social security, medicare, health benefits including pre-existing conditions patients, will be taxed more and more, etc. etc., etc., in otherwords, they are going to vote for Romney though they will end up in much, much worse shape than ever? Romney's math does not add up and he middle class will be taxed the highest in the history of our nation. I am a registered Republican and will be voting for Obama...........it is not a sin to want to have a better life for you and your children. Vote for Obama!
