Romney: Obama's 'running on fumes'

Chesapeake, Virginia (CNN) - Mitt Romney renewed his criticism of President Obama in his first appearance after Tuesday's contentious presidential debate, and accused his rival of not having a plan for a second term in office.

But the GOP presidential nominee did not mention Tuesday night's skirmish over Libya that has dominated much of the coverage of the debate.

On a sunny afternoon in Chesapeake, Virginia, Romney told an audience of several thousand the president was focused on attacking him instead of offering his own agenda.

"Don't you think that it's time for him to finally put together a vision of what he'd do in the next four years if he were elected?" Romney said, the day after the two men clashed in the second presidential debate at Hofstra University in New York. "I mean, he's got to come up with that over this weekend because there's only one debate left, on Monday."

Romney ticked through questions he said the president had avoided answering during the debate, including on immigration reform, the jobs market, and gas prices.

"I think it's pretty clear that when it comes to his policies and his answers and his agenda, he's pretty much running on fumes," Romney quipped, telling voters they had 20 days left to make a choice about America's future.

However, the Republican candidate did not address the foreign policy issue that became a flashpoint Tuesday night, when Obama and Romney clashed over the administration's handling of the attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi last month.

During the debate, Romney charged Obama had fumbled the response to the killings of four Americans in Libya. Obama fired back at Romney and accused him of politicizing the issue.

And after a night in which Democrats felt they had scored on women's issues, in Virginia Romney made a concerted effort to reach out to independent female voters.

"This president has failed America's women," Romney told the audience. "As I go across the country and ask women what can I do to help, what they speak about day in and day out is help me find a good job, or a good job for my spouse. And help my kid, make sure my children have a bright future, better schools and better job opportunities."

"That's what the women of America are concerned about and the answers are coming from us and not from Barack Obama," Romney said.

    Romney's plans for the next 4 years are the same economic plans we've been running under for 30 years. Cut taxes heavily favored for the wealthy and hope it trickles down to the rest of us. All it does is funnel more money to the people who already have most of it. Nothing new to see here.

    I'm undecided. I can't decide if Romney looks like a deer in the headlights or Frankenstein's monster.

    Geordie, you are too blind to see performance, too good for you.

    Romney, this pathetic liar deserved smack on his face like last night. He knew nothing about Bengazi.

    All he interested is to give tax cut again to himself and his millionnaire friends. NO TAX ON INTEREST, CAPITAL GAIN OR DIVIDEND, DON'T EVEN NEED TO FILE TAX RETURN.

    Romney assult on America, that is TREASON

    Geordie wrote "At least Romney has some plans for the next 4 years."

    Just a complete failure in logic. At least Romney has some plans??????? Nevermind the fact that those plans will put the country right back into the mess we are recovering from? That's your thought process. Wow. Never mind the fact that Willard has a plan to drive the wrong way down a busy street, hey at least he has a plan on where he's going, consequences be d*mned. Forget the fact that it's wrong and people will likely get hurt with Willard careening out of control into oncoming traffic, he's got a plan folks!! The simple mentality of GOP supporters would be laughable it was not so dangerous. Atta boy, Geordie.

    Local TV news had a camera crew at a local 'Romney Rally' in Woodstock, GA, last weekend (lots of conservative republicans around).

    Since the crew was there, the station ran the story: "Dozens show up for Romney Rally". It was hilarious. All the empty benches. Even the supporters that showed up looked lost: What are we doing here??

    Hilarious

    You're toast governer. One undecdied voter said it best on CNN...and I generally dontl like CNN. What she got from the debate is that Romney is NOT A GOOD LISTENER. I saw a condescending man who became testy when thigns did not go his way which was the whole debate. This man is used to talking down to people. Women need to sit up and take a listen. If you do not decide for yourself, Romney will decide for you.

    For somone who keeps asking Romney for specifics at least we know what Obama stands for, four more years of the same: inept bumbling of every issue, wasteful spending, scandals and coverpups, failed foreign policy, coddling of radical Islam, increased debt, more people on unemployment or out of work with no hope for a future and a healthcare plan that is unsustainable unless those of us who work continue to pay for those who don't because they can't find any jobs. Yes, he sure has done a great job. Instead of badmouthing Ann Romney who isn't running for office maybe you bleeding heart liberals could bash your boy in the White House for the absolutely horrible job he has done. Is he the best we can hope for as Americans? Someone incapable of solving economic issues and unfit to lead our nation? I don't think so. It is time to send him back to Chicago and ACORN where he can't cause so much harm.

    Mitt Romney picked up two points overnight among likely voters and now holds a 6-percentage point lead nationally over President Obama, according to Gallup’s daily tracking poll.

    Romney takes 51 percent support against 45 percent for Obama in the Gallup poll of likely voters, and also leads 48 to 46 among registered voters.

    "Pelosi and Reid led him around by the nose............."
    ************
    No they didn't, but even so it beats being "led around by the nose" from the likes of Sununu, Bolton, Senor, Bibi and
    every other Bush neo-con that Romney as surrounded himself with. I will listen to the Republican Colonel who
    said "John Bolton has never met a bomb he didn't like" and that "he scares me to death". Me too.
    Romney is running scared.
    He "balanced the Olympic's budget" by using $1B in federal aid;
    He "misled people with his "women in binders" comment: Check out MassGap;
    He lied about oil drilling on federal lands: the only time drilling fell was during the BP oil spill
    He never answered the question on equal pay for women;
    He was rude to the President "you will get your chance, I'm still speaking" – Well excuse us!
    He was rude to Candy Crowley, interrupting and acting like the foolish little boy that he is.
    "At least Romney has some plans for the next 4 years"????????
    What are they: The 50 point plan, the 5 point plan, or the plan to say nothing "until he is in the White House".
    "Last night was" Romney's "chance to tell us what his plans are for the future, he didn't offer anything".

    Mitt Romney runs to the right, then, to the center, then back to the right, then to the center and finally he ends up just looking pitiful. He just can't stay focused. You have to watch the news everyday to see where he stands.

    One of my favorite moments... when Mitt the Twit scolded Obama for not stating the Benghazi embassy attack was a terror attack the day after the attack. He was so sure Obama did not call it a terror attack, and stared at Obama with such intense anger saying, where's the tape? Obama said run the tape. Then Candy stepped in and confirmed Obama did in fact call it a terrorist attach the next day. Mitt the Twit looked like a deer caught in the headlights.
