New Obama ad responds to Romney abortion ad

(CNN) - President Barack Obama and GOP challenger Mitt Romney are sparring over abortion on the Virginia airwaves.

Obama's campaign on Thursday released a new television ad, "Seen," in response to a spot Romney's campaign aired on Wednesday.

Romney's ad aired on three television stations in the Virginia area, according to the political ad tracking firm CMAG, and the Obama campaign says their spot will run in Virginia.

While Romney's campaign usually announces a new television ad, the campaign did not release or post to their website an announcement of the Wednesday ad.

The narrator in Obama's ad references Romney's spot, then shows a clip from a 2008 Republican primary debate.

One of the moderators, CNN's Anderson Cooper, is seen asking, "If Roe v. Wade was overturned and Congress passed a federal ban on all abortions and it came to your desk, would you sign it, yes or no?"

"Let me say it. I'd be delighted to sign that bill," Romney answers.

The ad does not include the rest of Romney's response to the question.

"But that's not where we are. That's not where America is today," Romney said. "Where America is is ready to overturn Roe v. Wade and return to the states that authority. But if the Congress got there, we had that kind of consensus in that country, terrific."

Cooper's question was prompted by a viewer-submitted question, who posed the hypothetical that the Supreme Court had overturned the landmark ruling.

The Obama spot then condenses the nuance. "Banning all abortions?" asks the narrator, and Romney's reply: "I'd be delighted to sign that bill."

The narrator continues, "Trying to mislead us? That's wrong. But ban all abortions? Only if you vote for him."

Romney's Wednesday spot shows him as more moderate than some have suggested.

"You know those ads saying Mitt Romney would ban all abortions and contraception seemed a bit extreme, so I looked into it," she says. "Turns out Romney doesn't oppose contraception at all. In fact he thinks abortion should be an option in cases of rape, incest, or to save a mother's life."

Abortion returned to focus after the Republican candidate said in a recent interview, "There's no legislation with regards to abortion that I'm familiar with that would become part of my agenda."

The candidate and his campaign sought to clarify that he would support efforts to end federal funding for Planned Parenthood and would support judicial nominees who favor overturning Roe v. Wade.

Obama's campaign did not say how much it would spend to air the spot.

Jobs are not the top priority for women. women are resourceful and will find work if they need it. Men, eh
How would males like it if the federal government intervened in their bodily functions?

Romney keeps changing his story depending on who he talks to. On abortion, on the tax cut, on who the "makers" and "takers" in society are. He is slick, and dishonest. Obama may not have been as successful as he should have been so far as president, but he does not revise his values every day depending on who is listening. He has tried to keep his promises. With Romney, God only knows what they are.he has only been clear on a few things. Less regulation for companies (less regulation usually means the working classes get hurt and the rich get richer.)

Here's a bottom line: You, or no one else, and certainly not the government that you attempt to fill with ignorant and extremist politicians, get to decide "what's best" for my wife or our unborn fetus. My support of CHOICE in no way hinders you from exercising your own decisions about your family's pregnancies; YOU, on the other hand, support both personal and governmental interference in my decisions about my family. Frankly, supporting a forceful implementation of anti-choice laws by our government is an extreme, anti-American act , and it is no more acceptable than a forceful implementation of sharia law. A solution to such regressive malignancy just might have to be found in the 2nd amendment.

So he's okay with abortion, but he'd be happy to sign a bill to ban it? Yeah, that sounds like Mitt.

I simply feel I haven't the right to tell anyone what to do on such a personal level. I don't know the economical, emotional or familial situation of the women involved. It must be traumatic to them. I can only support their decision no matter what it is.

IIn response to the equal pay question in the debate, Romney made the now infamous "binder" comment. However, while he did not answer the question he did say that he often let women go home early to tend to their kids. Indicating that they didn't work until 7 pm. So does the fact that women get their jobs done in a timely manner mean they aren't worth as much as the guy who works til 7 to do the same job. He kind of slicked in the root idea that women don't work as much as men.

"How in the world would He know that She had the Transcript of that Rose Garden speech?"

She didn't have the transcript. He was just saying, in general, that she and everyone else should check the transcript, because it proves Mittens wrong. You've read a bit too deeply into it...apparently in an effort to see things that aren't there.

You can bet your life that if men had to push a baby out of any of their orifices, abortion would be as legal as legal gets and there would be NO question or issue about it whatsoever.

Romney will Repeal Obamacare women. Think about that. Do you want to go bankrupt if you have a serious illness or an accident? Or lose your healthcare? To me that's important. Lose your Medicare? Or your Social Security, what you have paid for already? This is just as important.

I stopped voting for GOP candidates a long time ago – when I realized they were not for personal freedoms as they claim, the GOP has proven over and over that they only support corporate freedom. All else be damned.

So why did Mitt fund his own son's use of a surrogate, with a contract in which the Romney's could insist that the surrogate have an abortion if the child was not healthy. Why is it OK for his ultra-rich son to order a baby with disabilities aborted?

Ready?!! Can you believe these emptyheaded neo-tards who not so long ago decried the political polls in no uncertain terms when they showed Obama so far ahead, but who now stridently believe in the polls as if they were the biblical since they started to show Romney coming back? Every rightwinger needs to stop, take a deep breath, and go take a serious look at the dictionary where the word H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-S-Y should be studied diligently.

The IQ differential in the way people vote will never ever have been larger that this Nov. Today's [R]s are a genetic bit flip away from Neanderthals.

See all these women oriented stories out in the media, it's because Obama's losing the women's vote, he needs it to win. Not going to help, even women can tell he doesn't know what he's doing, it became evident in the first debate.

No, we are not going to let Romney be the President- He and his sons, grandchildren and daughters in law are going to run the country into disaster. Of course, Miss Ann will make the major decisions as she always does for Bishop Romney.

Let us give our President 4 more years to finish what he started. Look at all the accomplishements this Pres has done in 4 years- No other Pres. in history has done as much as Pres Obama.. Bin Laden is dead, our troops are home and God willing the Afghan troops will be home soon . These are great news for our families to have our boys home. God bless America and Pres Obama!

    --------------------------------–

It's simple, just have your tubes tide, problem solved, if you are so determined not to never push a baby out. But if you prefer the abortion route than do the abortion and you pay for it. Romney said abortion stays legal you just have to pay for it. I don't see why we women don't hold man accountable and ask the man that got us pregnant to pay 1/2 the abortion fee. It's not as if we only get pregnant one 1 time, we can get pregnant again after an abortion.

Everytime you Democrats/Donkeys insult Gov. Romney of not serving in the military or his sons you guys also insult President Clinton who did not serve in Vietnam because the Senator he worked for got Clinton excused with the agreement Clinton would serve in the ROTC but Clinton didn't join the ROTC. Chelsea just like Romney's sons could have joined the military but Chelsea Clinton chose not to as did Romney's sons.
