Romney son jokes he wants to 'take a swing' at Obama

(CNN) – Mitt Romney's oldest son joked in a radio interview Wednesday his preferred method of dealing with a combative President Barack Obama was to "take a swing" at his dad's rival.

Asked on the Bill Lumaye radio show what it's like "to hear the President of the United States call your dad a liar," Tagg Romney joked about his fantasy response.

"Jump out of your seat and you want to rush down to the debate stage and take a swing at him," he said. "But you know you can't do that because, well, first because there's a lot of Secret Service between you and him, but also because that's the nature of the process. You know they're going to try to do anything they can do to make my dad into something he's not."

"We signed up for it, we've got to kind of sit there and take our punches, and send them the other way," he continued.

One of Tagg Romney's brothers, Josh, downplayed the comments in a Thursday morning interview on ABC's "The View."

"That brother has slugged me a couple of times," Josh Romney said. "I'm sure President Obama has nothing to worry about."

Asked about the original comments on Thursday, Romney campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said Tagg Romney was "joking about how frustrating this process can be for family."

CNN's Rachel Streitfeld contributed to this report.

Why do you characterize Tagg's comment as a joke? Did you interview him or is just the opinion of aptly named, "political unit".

What about Mr. Obama being President of the United States Tad? You, your family, your friends and your Republican co-horts don't respect The President because he is Black.

What would he gain by doing such a thing? It would not change the fact that Obama beat his daddy like he stole something!

Dude. Your dad IS a liar. Your dad is also the absolute king of misrepresenting the other person's views and words. Even his colleagues have labeled him this. Get over yourself you arrogant, entitled fool.

    Two words: Anger Management.

Perhaps the Secret Service needs to pay a visit to this hot head.

I can imagine how frustrating it must be to see your father challenged in front of the entire nation. But you also have to realize how frustrating it is to see a candidate for the presidency attempt to deceive the electorate. I think Romney is as slippery as an eel in a bucket of snot. But I don't want to take a swing at him. I just want to cast my vote for Obama so Romney will go away and stop bothering everyone with his lies.

Typical Romney – first say what your mean, and then when you realize how wrong it is to say it, back track. It is also reflective of Romney's parenting and how he is personally – a guy who is used to always getting what he wants, and then throws a temper tantrum when it appears he is not. Which is how he acted at the last debate. Imagine how this would reflect on his presidency if God Forbid he gets elected?

Wow. That shows an outstanding level of maturity to want to deck your father's political rival for calling him out from an obvious falsehood. "I'm gonna beat you up for pointing out that my dad didn't tell the truth!"

Romney and his family think they are entitled and everyone should bow to their feet. This remark is serious and should be taken as such but it won't from CNN who is becoming more and more like FOX NEWS every day with the exception on Starting Point.

Truth is, i suspect his father wanted to take a swing at him too. I can't believe how rude and disrespectful Ramney was towards the President Tuesday night. That said, I really wouldn't recommend Tagg try something stupid like that. I have a feeling President Obama would mop the floor with him and/or his dad...

Romney and his family think they are entitled to the White House and everyone should bow down to them. This was no joke and it should be taken serious but it won't not by the news agency such as CNN who is becoming more like FOX NEWS

I feel the same way about Mitt every time he opens his mouth b/c everything he says is either a lie or a distortion of the facts. The GOP has not shown any respect for our President and I for one am disgusted – my vote will speak for itself because clearly the GOP does not listen.

Tagg and Mitt are being investigated for an $8.1 Billion Ponzi scheme, so it makes sense they take up for each other.

Pffffft. Barack would swat him away like a gnat.

This is human nature. You see it often in similar situations, for example on Judge Judy often you see sons or daughters mouthing off judge when she berates their parent no matterhow deserving the parent is.
