Romney son jokes he wants to 'take a swing' at Obama

(CNN) – Mitt Romney's oldest son joked in a radio interview Wednesday his preferred method of dealing with a combative President Barack Obama was to "take a swing" at his dad's rival.

Asked on the Bill Lumaye radio show what it's like "to hear the President of the United States call your dad a liar," Tagg Romney joked about his fantasy response.

"Jump out of your seat and you want to rush down to the debate stage and take a swing at him," he said. "But you know you can't do that because, well, first because there's a lot of Secret Service between you and him, but also because that's the nature of the process. You know they're going to try to do anything they can do to make my dad into something he's not."

"We signed up for it, we've got to kind of sit there and take our punches, and send them the other way," he continued.

One of Tagg Romney's brothers, Josh, downplayed the comments in a Thursday morning interview on ABC's "The View."

"That brother has slugged me a couple of times," Josh Romney said. "I'm sure President Obama has nothing to worry about."

Asked about the original comments on Thursday, Romney campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said Tagg Romney was "joking about how frustrating this process can be for family."

CNN's Rachel Streitfeld contributed to this report.

The good, honest, fair and balanced peopel at Fox News would be all over this if a democrats kid had made that comment but since it's a republican, hey, that's fair game. Do we really want these peopel to get their hands on this economy? You know, the one they single handedly put in the toilet and now blame the democrats? No. They did their damage. They call Obama a liar but when Mitt flip-flops, as he has been doing for month, hey that's opkay. Keep the neocons away from the White House.

Romney's son and Tommy Thompson's son have something in common: a lack of civil manners and character.

Little Mittens may want to take the time to consider that threatening bodily harm on the President is a Class D Felony.

Too bad pugnacious Tagg and his siblings are not so ferocious when it comes to serving in the military to protect their country and the right of their father and themselves to be millionaires.

That response was not even celled for; even though they are both running for the same position, Obama is still the President and deserves great respect. I feel people have lack that for him when he has shown great resepect for people at all times.

Sounds like a Direct threat to our President by a Terrorist. Why hasn't he been arrested? He should be held accountable and be in the Secret Services grasp.

Little Mittens, your dad IS a liar and Candy called him one to his face as well. She doesn't have Secret Service protecting her. What's your plan now?

Romney's son has no respect for that office. Like father like son. He has no training. They might have money by duping people but respect has no room in their family.. They want to still the election by all means. They a hungry for power.

The combat zone is in the Middle East, Tagg, how about joining our brave men and women who are taking a swing for your sorry behind everyday and that goes for your draft dodging dad too. You won't find any Secret Service between you and the enemy in the military.

I know the guy wants to defend his father...but let's call it what it is..Tagg, your father has changed his position on issues more often than Carter has pills! He was pro-choice as a governor and senate candidate in MASS and has suddenly become pro-life...from moderate Mitt to very conservative Mitt for the primaries and now back to moderate Mitt...if that is isn't "Lying" or disingenuous then I don't know what is...and by the way...I don't care what party the President is from, as a Marine Corps veteran I will take you out if you try to attack my President...I guess you wouldn't know that since you or anyone in your family has ever served this country in a military position.

Tagg Romney – "You know they're going to try to do anything they can do to make my dad into something he's not."
How dare they! That's the job of the Romney campaign – to try to paint Mitt as a caring and compassionate guy who cares about average people, the 100% – something his entire life history shows is completely untrue.

BTW, are the Romneys related to the Palins? Tagg? Trip? Bristol?

Romney can't win the state of Massachusetts. That is a sign. He continues to brag about what he has done for the state. But from the numbers, he couldn't even get re-elected there as governor. This is a big red flag. If he is so great and his business ethic really transfers well helping in managing a state or country's economy, then why can't he win the support of those he has helped? That is all I am saying.

What a coward. Tagg should be ashamed of himself. I'm sorry that your father is a habitual liar, Tagg. It's obvious by your reaction that dad lost the debate. I'm so glad President Obama called Mitt out repeatedly and didn't let him run away from his record and say objectively false statements.

If I could tell Mitt and Tagg something, I'd say, "Facts matter...the truth matters, Romney(s)!"
