Election's other crystal balls: Football, baseball and basketball

Washington (CNN) – Why invest in polling and television ads, when rooting for a few oddly dispersed teams can lead to presidential victory?

Election watchers have been looking for correlations between sports and the presidency for years. A few have been found, explaining why challengers should root for the Washington Redskins, Democrats should root for the National League baseball teams and Republicans should cheer for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Down to the wire: Campaign enters stretch run

Boca Raton, Florida (CNN) - A dramatic new consensus has taken hold inside the campaigns of President Obama and Mitt Romney, one that was unthinkable just a few weeks ago: Americans will wake up on Election Day not knowing who their next president will be.

Polls have tightened, with trend lines in several key states favoring Romney, and Monday's foreign policy debate in Florida doing little to radically alter the shape of the race.

Where was Latin America in foreign policy debate?

(CNN) – During last night's foreign policy debate, President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney argued over the war in Afghanistan, nuclear crisis with Iran, tension with Israel, the rise of China and America's role in the world.

But Latin America hardly came up and Twitter users, especially the Latino community, were not pleased.

Presidential politics: Why Ohio is the 'big one'

(CNN) – President Barack Obama and rival Mitt Romney have targeted Ohio with incessant campaigning, a slew of television ads and nonstop political phone calls. The importance of the Buckeye State cannot be overstated: Ohio has not voted for the loser in the presidential election since 1960.

In other words, as goes Ohio, so goes the nation.

Not a big bird: Axelrod labels Romney a 'parrot'

(CNN) – David Axelrod, senior adviser to President Barack Obama's campaign, brought a new bird into the election vernacular, saying Mitt Romney's debate performance reminded him of a certain winged animal.

"Governor Romney in so many instances said that now he agrees with the president's policies," Axelrod said on Tuesday. "If Big Bird was the symbol of the first debate I think the parrot would be the symbol of this one."

Poll: Close race in Nevada, New Hampshire

(CNN) – New polls taken before the final presidential debate indicate that the race for the White House is all knotted up between President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney in two key states.

American Research Group released the surveys on Tuesday in battleground states showing Obama with a slight edge in Nevada, 49% to Romney's 47%, and Romney with the advantage in New Hampshire, 49% to Obama's 47%. But the results are well within the poll's sampling error making it a statistical tie.

Auto bailout: If Romney had his way

New York (CNNMoney) - Would the U.S. auto industry be doing as well as it is today if it was Mitt Romney competing his first term as president?

Romney argues that his plan for the industry in his now-famous November 2008 New York Times op-ed piece, "Let Detroit go bankrupt," was what the Obama administration eventually did: a managed bankruptcy at both companies.
