Romney's son apologizes to Obama for 'swing' remark

(CNN) – Tagg Romney, Mitt Romney's oldest son, apologized to President Barack Obama Monday for saying he wanted to "take a swing" at him during contentious presidential debates.

Obama and Tagg Romney were seen speaking on the stage after Monday's final presidential debate, held at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. Two Obama aides said the conversation included an apology for the remark, made last week during a radio interview.

Asked in that interview what it's like "to hear the President of the United States call your dad a liar," Tagg Romney joked about his fantasy response.

"Jump out of your seat and you want to rush down to the debate stage and take a swing at him," he said. "But you know you can't do that because, well, first because there's a lot of Secret Service between you and him, but also because that's the nature of the process. You know they're going to try to do anything they can do to make my dad into something he's not."

"We signed up for it, we've got to kind of sit there and take our punches, and send them the other way," he continued.

One of Tagg Romney's brothers, Josh, downplayed the comments in an interview on ABC's "The View."

"That brother has slugged me a couple of times," Josh Romney said. "I'm sure President Obama has nothing to worry about."

Asked about the original comments on Thursday, Romney campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said Tagg Romney was "joking about how frustrating this process can be for family."

CNN's Rachel Streitfeld contributed to this report.

If Romney and his sons want to get violent, why don't they join the military? These people are very enthusiastic about war, but they don't risk their own necks (Romney went to France during the Vietnam War he then supported) and they are cheap with paying the cost monetarily too (Romney's a sophisticated tax evader). These Prince of Peace believers like the idea of others going to war and paying tax dollars to defend their privileged position in this country. Very patriotic.

High time, too. Now "Tagg" needs a good loooong stretch in the time out chair, his mouth washed out, and sent to bed with no dinner for his remarks.

Tagg should have aplogized because that was disrespectful, it shows "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree". I'm just saying??

Yawn. Another non-story trumped up by CNN and Co. in an effort to attack Romney. I thought family was off limits? Anyway, there have been all kinds of "bullet", "cross hair", etc. comments from Obama and Biden themselves. I thought they said after the Giffords shooting that kind of language was frowned upon. Guess it is only if it comes from the right.

What he should really be apologizing for is his father for even considering candidacy.

very nice how both Romney's son and President Obama handled this apology. I wish more men were as grown up about things they disagreed about.

Kids reflect parents (even if they allow 40 wives per husband).

I think Mitt's son accurately reflects today's America, where dumb people with force are well represented.

If you don't know what the other guy is saying, call him a name, and then go beat him up. Or try. Usually dumb people aren't too effective in those situations.

This is what Mitt raised among his Klan.

Good on him for being able to do what his father cannot apologize for a stupid comment. My hat is off to you Tagg.

As an Obama supporter, I give Romney very little quarter when it comes to issues and policy. But this is neither. It's not news. Move on. The news media would do us all a service by ignoring the non-stories and reporting on the issues that actually have something to do with the candidates' platforms and what they will or won't do for the country.

Well, it all comes out on the wash. Spoiled brat wants to take a shot of the Prez. Let the secret service be there and he won't have any arms left to swing. Romney should go back to the trailer park he came from. Don't forget the family, bros.
