Could Obama's struggles with white voters cost him the election?

Washington (CNN) – The nation's first black president could be in danger of becoming a "one-termer" if he can't convince enough white voters that he deserves another four years in the Oval Office.

For weeks, he's hovered around 40% of white voter support – a level that Democratic presidential candidates have struggled with in the recent past and one that analysts believe Barack Obama must maintain in order to win. At the same time, he has to encourage minority voters to go to the polls and capture 80% of their support.

Obama has pandered to every segment of our population EXCEPT white voters? What has he done for THEM lately? Except, of course, pit every other minority group against them and painted them as racist?

I guess they just don't like being called racist, especially after a lot of them voted for him in 2008 and got him the office.

John, PA – Citing numbers from 2 years BEFORE President Obama took office?? Thanks for that. Now it's clear where the problem started. The President has turned around the direction the country was headed (into a depression), and it takes longer than 3 and a half years to undo the catastrophe of what Bush and the GOP did to the country. And let's not forget that the GOP has blocked every single action the President has tried to make to fix the economy. It's ignorant, Fox News bottom feeders like you that keep voting for the domestic-terrorist GOP that our country has a hard time moving forward.

The answer is a resounding YES. I can't believe CNN is actually posting this. This election is about rich and poor but it's also about race. President Obama has been disrespected more than ANY President in the history of the United States. He is being held to a completely different standard than any other President or even candidate. How many other presidents have been asked to release their birth certificates to the public?? None. How many other presidents have been called Muslim, Marxist, socialist, communist?? None. How many first ladies have been disrespected and called names?? None. How many other times has Congress vowed to make a President a one term POTUS? None. When President Obama was elected we were losing jobs left and right but the GOP would rather see the entire country fail instead of doing anything to move us forward. And let's not forget that 60% of white males refuse to vote for a black man, whether they are a businessman or someone with no job, health insurance and living off the government. There may be more people getting assistance from the govt right now but that's not President Obama's fault, he simply stepped in to help people. Can you imagine how bad it would have been if there was no help???

And then there is Willard.. He doesn't have to follow the same rules. He doesn't have to release taxes, he can change opinions like most people change underwear and that's fine and dandy. Even phony Christians like that old buzzard Billy Graham, who has always referred to mormonism as a cult, now accepts it. The bottom line to many whites is, at least he's white..... They simply can't deal with a black family in the White House, even if the POTUS is half white.

President Obama is black on his father's side and white on his mother's side, and NONE OF THIS makes any difference. CNN has obviously been co=opted by Rove and his merry men. That, combined with a frantic need to keep the race artifically 'close' so they get ratings, has led to CNN and its 'journalistic' staff posting some of the stupidest, irrelevant, base inciting garbage I've ever seen in print.

When black Americans win medals in the Olympics, it does every US citizen proud! So, where is the wedge here?. Unless guys are evolving backwards!

Will Romney's struggle with anyone but white voters cost him the election? Will Romney's struggle with people who are connected to the auto industry cost him Ohio, and therefore the election? Yes to both questions.

Once again here is CNN playing the playing with race, New poll out today PPP Obama and Romney tied in North Carolina at 48% Obama has built up a lead over the first week of the early voting period in the state. Among those who say they've already voted he's at 57% to 42% for Romney. Romney achieves the overall tie because of a 50/45 advantage among those yet to vote.

I'm white and can relate to Obama much more than Romney. That's because Obama has not lived a sheltered life. I've known very wealthy people who have shielded their children from the realities of life like hard work for low wages, poverty, hunger! This does them no favors in the area of understanding, empathy, compassion,perseverance,resilience....just to name a few personality traits that would make Romney seem more human.

@ I voted early in NC.....you're welcome. Race shouldn't be a factor but unfortunately it is. And for anyone crying about the faux race card, tell that to Bachman, Trump and all the rest of the idiots that say and do racist things about and to President and Mrs. Obama.

    OBAMA 2012!

FYI: I am not talking about all whites, because there are many that don't have a racist bone in their bodies and to them I say thank you for caring more about the content of a persons character and not their skin color. We all bleed red.

Americans need to grow up and stop viewing everything and everyone through the "glasses of race." Until you don't see the colour of your skin and the skin colour of others ... your country will always be divided and fighting with itself.

@Gurgyl. Colored posters?? Obvious racism? Come on, I don't have a racist bone in my body. Stating the obvious is being racist?? I have a right to speak my mind, I have witnessed racism first hand and been the victim of it. Racists come on the ticker everyday and say the most rotten things but I'm not allowed to say anything back? Come on. And by the way, BLACKS haven't been called colored since the Jim Crow days. Actually that term offends me as much as the confederate flag does. The point is, there are many white males that would vote for Lucifer before President Obama.

Look, when you have white men in congress plotting on the night of the election to make this man a one term president, what do you expect? Not all whites are ingrained racist and no one is saying that but it still a very racist country. Here is a fact, listen to most radio talk show host and all of them are white or clueless females and all of them are anti-Obama which is sad but true. Even in a city like Detroit he could hear these racist talk show hosts. I will be surprised if the president is re-elected. Then I hope calmer and rational heads prevail because something is not right here.

I would still like to know who was the republican coach that shut this man up in the first debate knowing full well it was going to be a game changer. Who was his coach and is he or she still working or connecte dto the WH?.

WOW – what a lop-sided article. Another poster asked, will Romney's struggles with voters other than whites cost him the election. Why not ask that question as well. Sometimes I think media starts a narrative just to give itself something to discuss to be credible.

@Donkey Party and Wake Up People – very excellent posts.
