Romney offers 'big change'

Worthington, Ohio (CNN) - Mitt Romney told Ohio voters Thursday his candidacy offered "big change" as he sought to shore up support and encourage turnout in the crucial swing state.

"We need to make sure Ohio is able to send a message loud and clear: We want real change. We want big change," Romney told 3,000 cheering supporters in Cincinnati, the first stop on the GOP presidential nominee's bus tour through the Buckeye State.

The White House hopeful, who in recent days has cast his bid as a growing "movement" of enthusiasm, said he was equal to confronting the "huge challenges" the country faces.

"The Obama campaign is slipping because he's talking about smaller and smaller things despite the fact that America has such huge challenges and that this is such an opportunity for America," he said. "And that's why on November 6th I'm counting on Ohio to vote for big change!"

Romney planned stops in three Ohio Thursday, and after a quick trip to Iowa Friday morning for a policy speech on the economy, he will reunite with his running mate Paul Ryan in North Canton that evening.

A Time Magazine poll released Wednesday showed Obama holding a five-point edge in Ohio, which holds 18 electoral votes and is the site of the fiercest battles between Romney and the president.

While Romney barnstormed the state, his campaign sent reporters a statistics-heavy memo arguing Romney was actually better positioned in Ohio than Obama, who has consistently led polls here. The memo detailed the Romney campaign's voter outreach and ground operations in the state, and said the former Massachusetts governor was poised to sway more independent voters than Obama by Election Day.

"Write it down – if Mitt Romney wins independent voters by 15 points in Ohio, he'll be the next President of the United States," wrote Romney Political Director Rich Beeson.

In response to Romney's morning comments, the Obama campaign again sought to tie their opponent to controversial members of the Republican Party.

"Here's the 'big change' Mitt Romney is offering: going back to the same failed policies that caused the economic crisis and empowering the extreme voices in his party like Richard Mourdock," said spokeswoman Lis Smith.

At a breakfast stop Thursday morning Romney ignored reporters' questions about his continued support for Mourdock, who earlier in the week said even pregnancies caused by rape were intended by God. The Romney campaign distanced itself from those comments through a spokeswoman.

Romney is right....President Obama is focused on smaller and smaller issues because he cannot compete on his own record. I was not surprised with his plan that came out in booklet form just yesterday.

There is a big mistake in economy topic....none of the candidates know about economy....we cannot do what Romney is proposing (massive cuts), we would stop the global economy and that is all...another recession and no buyers outside USA...where the exports would go? (Same recipe asked for Greeks that are moving to another world) In another hand, we cannot continue spending as we are doing it, there is already so much cash and there is no place where to put the money...this is in part why oil is very expensive, there are many countries that are having so much USD that they can pay more for food, oil, etc.... it is not about drilling more, it is about a matter of prices, so much cash with the same or less products and you create inflation and bubbles, the same as in real estate... We printed this money. We cannot asked cheap jobs back in USA, this would be creating a loss of good quality life, right now we can buy good cars, good furniture, good food with cheaper prices and better quality sustained with cheap handwork, this means that with your salary you can buy cheaper and better things, or we want to bring back all these jobs and pay the same cheap salaries to compete? The only one that made a good comment was Obama about Education...REALLY this is the solution for better paid jobs... This is the recipe of China (best global technology in lightning, already in space race, etc) South Korea (best technology in fridges, TVs, air conditioned, washing machines, etc)... We should ask why GE is bringing everything related with lightning from China?...Not only because of cheap handwork, it is because the best lightning technology is Chinese...the same is doing Philips and Osram...Why the corporate of GE in Medicine is in London? Because there is the best people in this field...Why the monoblocks and motors head are made by a Mexican Company Globally? because they are the best. WE LOVE TEACHERS!!!! It is much more than a simple phrase...it is the way to become much better for the future..

And borderless.......I might remind you that a majority of Americans never wanted GW Bush in the White House either. He got there by way of the electoral college and a stacked supreme court. But he became our president nonetheless.

Romney has no shot in Ohio.... There is not a single poll in Ohio that has Romney ahead and he's going to lose the state. Without it he has no chance at winning the election. News agencies can try to keep your interest but the electoral math is not at all with Romney.

Romney will say anything and be on both sides of all issues to be president. yet, he cares nothing about 97% of us. amazing that there are so many fools that can't see beyond their hate to understand he will F them and their kids future if he gets in office.

A balanced budget would be a change I could get behind regardless who the candidate is. Since Obama has only made it worse for the past 4 years, I'll borrow a phrase from his 2008 campaign when he repeatedly said, it's "time for change." Agreed. It is time.

"Obama's policies have had their run."

Really? Which ones? Hmmmm? The Stimulus was almost half tax cuts...and that's signature GOP crap. The rest of what the GOP allowed to slip through their stonewalling and record filibusters, etc., was mostly standard operating procedure for economic downturns, like unemployment insurance, that economists were warning could not be avoided lest it cause problems to worsen. For the most part, the GOP blocked most of Obama's policies...and they take loud and in-your-face pride in having done so...so your claim that we've even really given Obama's policies a shot is completely and utterly disingenuous and hypocritical.

We all know what at least ONE of Governor Romney's big changes would be..

    "Romney campaign stands by Mourdock".

Women.. For Goodness sake.. WAKE UP..

If ever there WAS a sign from God, this would be one of them.. These 'men' who are completely uneducated and ignorant about a woman's body, want to be in charge of the laws that Govern YOUR body. There is no other way to put it. Welcome to the year 1642 where science and medicine take a back seat. Don't even dare mention the earth revolves around the sun.

The Governor has said if he wins the Presidency that he would sign legislation if presented, that bans abortion. And you have GOP senators and Congressmen who have now said that women who get raped have no medical worries as they can't get pregnant if they are 'really' raped, and now with Mourdoch, it is 'God's Gift'.

    Seriously..

Vote like YOUR life, your daughter's life and health depends on it.. It's not playtime anymore, they are playing for keeps and total control.Have no doubt, this is 'the big grab'.

Romney is showing you right now what he means by "big change".......he is getting ready to pocket millions of dollars while Bain is once again shipping American jobs to China. There is the big change.......his bank account is about to change in a big way, while previously employed Americans are going to change to unemployed......thereby becoming part of the 47% that Romney has such disdain for. Hows that for change? And once you are out of work and you lose your health care, don't come around crying about it.......Obamacare goes away on day one!

It's interesting that some of you want to attribute Mourdock's comments to Romney simply because they belong to the same political party. Using your logic, Obama espouses screwing interns in the oval office.

To all of the Obama haters:
... think about the fact that Romney wants to remove protections for pre-existing conditions and bring back lifetime caps on insurance benefits...

Hardly. Mitt Romney implemented full access health care Massachusetts in 2006, the first of its kind in the country. He did this as a bipartisan bill, much different than Obama's behind closed doors lobbyist=written bill. Yes, ObamaCare has to be thrown out. It is a waste of money and a bad deal for Americans. We deserve better. And Mitt Romney will see that we get it.
